I did some research, this is the fraud prevention # for Wells Fargo Bank.  But to be safe, I always call a number I KNOW is a real bank number.  I appreciated the fact that they noticed some unusual activity on my debit card, I was doing some serious shopping!

This number is Wells Fargo.

My family went from our home in Georgia to New Orleans for spring break. One evening, my wife and I went to Harrah's casino. I have to assume places like casinos are HUGE triggers for fraudulent activity on stolen credit cards. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten what my ATM withdrawal limit was, and asked for an amount larger than that which was declined. Then, when I asked for a smaller amount, I think it triggered the fraud prevention alert at WF. Anyway, they called and left a message with this number (877) 316-2157. I was just about to call it when I realized it wasn't the regular customer service number. So I called that number instead (the one on the back of every WF debit card), and the customer service rep there confirmed for me that yes, that was the fraud department's phone number (or at least one of them).

Got a call from the 8773162157. They just say that there is fraudulent activity on your account and we need to call back on their number. They gave the wrong name "Allen" and when you call they don't even say (names) and ask us to follow their IVR process.

I hope someone checks this number and catches the thief.

Just called SECURED Wells Fargo phone #, (800) 869-3557, and confirmed it is of course 'phish' scam. They are asking anyone who received such a call to e-mail to  'reportphish@wellsfargo.com'.  Let's try to get them MORE INVOLVED to help stop hurting any unwitting consumers. Regardless of what people feel, we are ALL PAYING for these scams.

This is Wells Fargo. They called me after a couple large ATM withdrawals while Christmas shopping. I called the number on the back of my card because I was uncomfortable with the 877 call and they informed me my debit was locked until I confirmed my withdrawals. DON'T GIVE ANY INFORMATION, JUST CALL WELLS FARGO BACK DIRECTLY IF YOU GET A CALL YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH.

As caller ID can be faked (spoofed) Never a good idea to give out personal information on a call you did not make. Ask for a callback number, then call (if it's a bank) the number on the back of your credit card, statement, or out of the phone book.

The number is 100% legit. Called my local Wells Fargo bank rep to confirm the number and everything. Plus, the people on the unknown phone number gave me a translator (for my pops) which seems awfully complicated for a scam.

THIS IS NOT A SCAM. THEY CALL AFTER YOU'VE MADE A BIG PURCHASE TO MAKE SURE YOUR CARD HASN'T BEEN STOLEN. I just got this call about 2 hours ago. They asked me to confirm transactions that I had recently made (I just made a big purchase on my new apartment lease). I gave them the last 4 digits of my card and confirmed my name. By the time they asked me about the transactions I was on this webpage and freaked out about how stupid I was and hung up thinking that I had just given a thief my information. I ran to my wells fargo right away and sat down with an accountant. He called the number, and followed the recording so that he could be transferred to a representative (a real person rather than a robot). They exchanged some kind of code that confirms who they are and he told me it was totally legit. He gave me the phone so that they could finish asking me about the transactions and that was that.

It's real. It doesn't ask for any account number or anything account related. Just asks for your to confirm the zip code on the account and says your name.  It just wants to make sure you made the last couple of transactions. It will repeat the amount and the location it was done at. They are looking for a simple yes or no in order to put a block on your account or not.

This number left a message to call as soon as possible.  It just kept repeating the number and never said Wells Fargo.  I will have to assume it stated that at the beginning of the message which got cut off.  I had a problem with my debit card this morning at the ATM machine which actually asked me to call Wells Fargo.  This message was received before I was able to call.  I did not call the number but I called the number on the back of my debit card and the first thing she said was, "looks like you are having problems with you debit card."

I will have to say that the this is a legit number based on how things transpired.

I received a call from this number stating that they were from Wells Fargo Bank, and that there was a problem with my atm/ check card. I didn't answer the call; I let it go straight to voice mail.

I don't have a atm/check card at Wells Fargo Bank, and then my son recognized the automated voice that they used as the same voice that people use in their animated videos on youtube. HA!

This number is a scam or phishing attempt, definitely not Wells Fargo. I know because as has been pointed out I got a real call (from a human) at Wells a couple weeks ago when there was a problem with my card.  And, ohh yeah, they called my *actual* phone number!  [The call today was a Google number that I use
for testing, and have never given out! ]  Sorry scammers, try again!!

WF is horrible.  We've had an account - checking and credit cards - for years.  Last week our accounts were hacked - cash was transferred to our credit cards - (on line this was done) charges were made to max out the cc - before those were posted someone got cash advances off the credit card - we even had LIFELOCK (don't waste your money - they never called and when we called they bluntly told us they do not cover bank accounts) we had to go into WF several times in the following week to prove who we were - they will not give us a print out of the charges, will not give us our CASH back - said it was on the CC - well we didn't authorize that transfer - I had to take off a week of work to try and straighten this out.  They set up new accounts and guess what - because they didn't transfer the money back into our checking account they are charging us 'overdraft' protection.  Needless to say - we are getting a lawyer.  Take your money out of any Wells Fargo accounts before someone else does!!!!!

Whether or not this is a scam, these calls are being made by several different banks and there's no way to stop the calls from coming because there's no way to enter a valid last four digit account number.  It eventually turns into pure harassment where the robo-dial continues to call and the callee has no way of responding.

Same thing happened twice today. Got calls from "Wells Fargo" stating they were the Fraud division. I don't have Wells, but my son does. After the second call, I wrote down the number they told me to call and it is a disconnected number.

definitely not a scam.  they called me today 11//25/12 at exactly 3:07 PM . i wasnt sure if it was legit so i Googled it and ended up in this site. some say is a scam some say its not. well i ended up calling the 877 number and got an automated response telling me their office was closed and to call back the next day @ 10 AM central time. I opted for calling the number behind the wf bank card and told them about that number.they told me they don't keep track of outgoing calls but neither could acknowledge if that # belonged to wells fargo however she did tell me that in fact there was some suspicious transaction with my account. she then asked me for the card number, the last4 digits of my social and the last 3 security numbers of the card (the numbers behind the card) and i gave her all the required info. let me also emphasize that at any time she asked me for the pin #.  she just told m there was a hold on my card and since i called they removed it. If they are calling you is because you do have some suspicious trasactions and the best bet would be to call the wellsfargo # to fix your problems
