"I do some business with them, but none that would give them the right to randomly call my child just because they just turned 18.  USAA also refused to divulge the nature of the call with either of the parents"

You need to dump this company so they will never have ANY excuse to ever harass you again. They do not have the right to try and screw you through your child in the name of doing business.

FK that. I might even file a police report and have someone at the PD give them a call to ask them what they spoke to your child about.

Especially if YOU are going to be footing the bill.

They probably duped your poor mother into passing along YOUR info so they could send a quote.

Lying bastturrds.

I wish the NSA would get off their a*** and DO something about these idiots.

It might make them popular.

"When they asked me for my mailing address, they said it was for purposes of determining what to quote me for premiums.  And asked for my phone number, should our connection be lost and they had to call me back.  What a dummy I am....."

No. You aren't a dummy. Everyone gets suckered into stuff like this. Just get in the habit of giving as little info as possible, a phone number for a Walmart phone no. but not your personal one. A mailing address of a business so they don't know where you live. Get a post office box. That at least puts a barrier between you and them. If they say they can't use a p.o. box tell them to pound salt. Take your business elsewhere.

"My husband was shopping for auto insurance and called USAA only to find that they are more expensive than GEICO so he told them "NO THANK YOU"."

I have GEICO. They send me info in the mail or leave a message.

So WTF is USAA doing bothering me? They have called at least 3 x a day (morn/noon/nite) for several days now. What sane person wouldn't want to tell them to go F themselves for not leaving a farking message?

This is why I don't answer my phone anymore. I let it go to voice mail.

Don't answer and eventually they will go away.

If I don't know who is calling, I will not answer.

USAA Insurance called me 3 x today and 5 yesterday. NO GODDDDM MESSAGE. I don't do business with them so WHY won't they at least leave a message on voice mail?

God only knows what would happen if I had to file a claim.....

I would switch just on principle to a company that would promise not to bother me except in an emergency.

USAA called from this number to sell my 18 year old child insurance.  I do some business with them, but none that would give them the right to randomly call my child just because they just turned 18.  USAA also refused to divulge the nature of the call with either of the parents even though they were calling our home number.  Unethical to do business like this.

I got a call from this number but didn't answer it.  A message was left leaving 1-800-952-2429.  In contrast to what some others have said about the recording, the message on my phone was a jumbled mess.  It started with some vaguely Indian-sounding music, then a distorted recorded voice started to pick up, which clarified into what I imagine most other people got, saying something about USAA offers and 1-800-952-2429.  Then there was the sound of a phone ringing and it cut out.  I think I may have gotten the bad copy of this, and if this does not convince you that this is a scam... well, I don't really know what to say to that.

Didn't answer but also a customer of USAA.  Past history of them trying to market insurance products by phone too -- which I don't appreciate.  *sigh also*

It said USAA but I don't trust it. The first thing the automated message asked for was my card number - very phishy! I don't trust it at all, USAA uses emails and secure connections to connect with you, not  random phone numbers. It may sound legitimate but I think it's a phishing scam. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK. Contact your USAA representative directly through the number on the site, there's a reason this number is not listed as USAA's customer service number, because it's not them.

I too have called them to get taken off of being called.  The USAA rep told me that he put a POP-UP on my account screen to advise them that I do not wish to be contacted by phone.  He also contacted the telemarketing company contracted by USAA and told me that it might take 4-6 WEEKS to be taken off their list.

I might just change banks and insurance.

Recieve a call from this number every few months. My response is mute the phone & continue with the day. With all these smarter than me phones nowadays, you can set it up to recieve calls only from numbers in your contacts. Food for thought.

Have received a recent call from 877-336-0172. They left a voice message but I only received the very tail end of the message so I don't know what it's about. Coincidate with this, I began receiving frequent,  unsolicited, unwanted, explicit e-mails, with no return address or way to opt-out. Additionally, my credit card is being billed for $1.00, $1.25, or $1.50 per month by "billto.com," a nonexistent web address, with a suspect telephone number of (877) 449-4762; when called, they claim they are an (unnamed) "energy company" who has never heard of this web address, but, they give no further information (perhaps this is a way to learn your telephone number or know that you're suspect). All of this began last year after I tried to log-on to a web site but, first, was asked for my credit card information, solely for age verification, and was assured there'd be no charge, but was then immediately switched to a web site I had no interest in or knowledge about. This apparent illegal activity (skimming?) has fraud written all over it. One last detail, also coincident with this, the virtual keyboard on my cell phone has become very labored, slow, and erratic; is some unknown entity receiving, stroke-for-stroke, everything I type? Any one of these strange items might not, of themselves, get attention but, collectively, give me concern that my personal, credit card, and electronic security have been breached.

Why does USAA need to do a survey if they already have your coverage limits and personal information.  CAVEAT EMPTOR  let the buyer beware. in these days of Rampant Identity theft don't  give out personal info UNLESS you call them to verify who they are  or  you contact them on a https /128bit SSL connection over the internet.

You are asking for identity theft if you answer a 877 number calling your  house.

BTW you can Opt out of Marketing calls from USAA i lasts 5 years and you must re up the OPT out otion every 5 years to keep them at bay... Check out Preferences on the USAA.com website.

I missed a call from this number at 1:50pm.  I called it back and it said it was USAA.  I just had a gut feeling something was amiss since they didn't leave a message before.  I hung up right away.  I typed in the phone number and came across this site.  I'm so glad I did not type in my account number or SSN.

I usually do not answer unidentified numbers, but I answered this one. All I heard was music. No voice. No automated message. Nothing. Just music. I hung up right away. My gut feeling is telling me this is some sort of scam. I have had USAA for 8 years, and this number is not on one of their contacts I have saved on my phone. I've never seen this number before.

They are using an auto dialer to test your line to see what times of the day you most frequently answer the phone so that when a live, paid person needs to call you, they don't waste time calling you at times of the day that you don't answer the phone.

It is a big deal that they are calling every other month to verify information.  I have lived in my current house for 15 months and they have spoken to my husband at least 4 times to verify our insurance info.  Additionally, their auto dialer calls at all hours of the day and night to verify what times of the day we most frequently answer the phone.  There is no one there when we answer.

I am on the phone right now with USAA insurance trying to stop these calls.  They need a flood of members telling them that this is a problem and that the calls need to stop.

A "friend" talked me (being a veteran) into calling USAA about insurance quotes.  i did and they were higher than my existing company.  When they asked me for my mailing address, they said it was for purposes of determining what to quote me for premiums.  And asked for my phone number, should our connection be lost and they had to call me back.  What a dummy I am.....
They said i would not receive any junk mail or calls.  What a lie, i am getting calls and junkmail from them and it does not stop.
