The reason I don't even consider talking with the debt collectors is if I offer them $50.00 every 2 weeks they get mad at me because I won't just pay the full thing off right then so they make a commission. And even when a debt collector finally settles for a set payment regiment, you call me 6 to 20 times a month to ask about that payment, whens that payment, how 'bout that payment there, etc etc etc. I KNOW about the f****ng payments, I get paid every two weeks living paycheck to paycheck, my parents can't help me because they're also poor like me and I don't have any "fancy rich relatives" I can borrow the money from so no I don't have any f****ng gold buried in the backyard because I live in a damn apartment building.

So it's pretty much best not to pay debt collectors because your credit score doesn't really matter. Get prepaid everything. To the Debt Collector, I hope your life sucks as much as mine does every single day you have to go to work. I've been a debt collector in the many stupid s*** jobs I've had, I know it sucks and doesn't make any money either. Lawl.

What you put out comes back my dear, some people in debt have debt because they had a sick child who they lost to cancer, infact any family member hit with cancer can leave you falling so far behind that your life even after losing all this, is hell because debt collectors calling you either don't care or never want to know why, THIS IS CALLED LIFE, don't care who you are you never know it could be you, take it from someone who along with my hubby both have worked full-time, overtime all our lives, raised 4 kids, and boom cancer, other reasons maybe for other people. stop being a mean person, for you to say haha keep me in a job, is that the world you want to live in, screw you, well I don't and do not want my family, kids, friends, to ever know people like you. Go back to oz and get a heart. To anyone else on here looking in desperation to see who is calling, take a deep breath and make sure you are not be harassed, there are laws to how debt collectors can speak to you, and deal with you. God Bless

You are full of it!!! BBB states, that collection agencies can ONLY contact in search of an address! Also, they cannot contact employers unless written permission is given! No I will not give personal info to anyone that calls me! Been dealing with people like this before my bankruptcy and checked into a lot of the laws!!!! Also, the Canada portion of your loan if in default goes to CRA!

For all above there are two portions to any student loan. There is a provincial portion and a federal risk portion. Both are handled by various collection agencies. If the bank called you and asked to to verify the information you would volunteer it. So what is the difference for a third party they have hired because they have been unable to resolve the account. It is provincially and federally regulated; p.s.what exactly could someone do with that info other then mail you a birthday card? Some clients require a five point verification. If you are working or own your home then I would suggest verifying. That is unless your bank likes liens. Which can be pretty tricky to explain when you rewrite your mortgage.
As well you can call anyone to attempt to contact a consumer. It actually pretty important that the individual be notified; I would want to know if someone was going to sue me. Wouldn't you?
Lastly if you lent someone 10k and they refused to pay it back you probably wouldn't like it. How would you handle it just say "oh well." I dont think so; we are regulated and all of this mis-information is causing a lot of canadians to maintain bad credit and potentially effecting their life in the long term. By the way when anyone borrows money its in the fine print that if you default on payments the balance is due immediately. Hence the term on demand debt. It is due immediately in full. Read any loan or cardholder agreement its in there.

Okay,

These guys are ARO or something like that, keep telling me I owe around $6,500 from the 90's in RBC student loans.  I paid all of this off while working in the US during the dot-com bubble when the Canadian dollar was in the toilet.

I have very politely asked to forward me all the original paperwork with respect to my loan and all the payments that were made against it.  They told me they don't have it, so I asked them how do they know I didn't pay it off.  Their response, well RBC told us and asked me for my records.

I believe I kept the records from 2000-2006 or so while residing in the US but when I didn't hear anything I destroyed all my financials, which I do regularly but now I scan them all.

None of this shows on my credit reports or anything and I have awesome credit, so I don't know where they are coming from or are getting their information. They are sneaky and don't follow any rules as far as I am concerned.  RBC and CIBC are two of the worst banks I have ever dealt with and will never do any business with either of them again.

My 2 cents....D

Rumor has it, these collection agencies have cut costs by eliminating cubicles and replace them porta-potties.  These same rumor says employees are provided with laptops running Windows 95 and cordless phones.

How is life in the boiler room treating you?  You are really cool trolling blogs to call people names and making unsubstantiated allegations about people "stealing money" ---- you wouldn't know the distinction between mens rea and actus reus if it bit you in the tail.

I didn't know they paid enough for people who clean up the porta-potties in the call center boiler rooms for them to be able to buy the computers and Internet service necessary to post on this site.

Or maybe you are just selling your government food stamps to rent a computer.

Its a collections department names Aero they will harass you every week day. They will call you a liar. I am thinking of filing a harassment suite against them. Because at a time of a family emergency they stressed me out so bad I was screaming and crying on the phone because they do not give a flying f what's happening in your life. The bottom line is I would have started paying them back if I had gotten my bill in the mail sooner. But instead was called a liar. Don't talk to them unless you have the money to pay your debt off.

Got a call today asking for so and so..I said I don't know anyone of that name. She said well I got your number from your father. I said what's the last name of the person you are looking for..she said what it was. I said oh that's my nephew, but why are you calling me? I haven't talked to him in ages. Apparently she contacted my father who is mid-70's and don't understand scams. He gave her my number but couldn't remember much else of the conversation. I would really like to know how she got my dad's number in the first place, as I'm sure my nephew wouldn't have put him down as an emergency contact. Only thing I can think of is that their first names begin with the same letter??

I have had this number  call me several times. I asked again today who they are and was told they represent 18 companies. She wanted personal info and I told her no  she could answer my questions first. i asked where she had my number from and she told me it came from  411. My number is blocked and secured due to a phone stocking and Bell released it. (idiots but that's another story) She told me I would be sued and lose it all and I informed her that if she is a collector they have no power or authority to "sue" and I would not be intimidated  I asked for the info on the company again and she refused so I told her they would hear from my lawyer  Total SCUM
BTW I am not with nor ever been with RBC  These people are lowlife debt collectors who buy very old debts for next nothing trying to get people to pay full price  Any debt that is about 7 -10 years old has been bought a couple of times at least and these guys buy them for about  20 cents on the dollar and give us a deal at 65 cents on the dollar.  This info from a lawyer who has taken this co to court successfully in 25 cases in Toronto. this is one way people have identities stolen  BTW  ASKING FOR A SIN IN CANADA IS ILLEGAL NEVER give  it to anyone.

So this "lady" calls and asks if so and so lives here.  I replied that I was the person in question.  She said let me verify some information.  I replied, I am the person you are looking for.  What do you want and what company was this from?  She replied, I want you to verify date of birth, mailing address, and social insurance number.  I said I am verifying that I am the person you are looking for.  She said, "maam, I need you to verify some personal information"  I said, I am not giving out any of my personal information to anyone, What is this call in regards to?  She would not budge, finally I said, if your not gonna talk to me, than stop phoning here.  She went on to tell me that she could find all of my information on the internet.  So I told her to go find it there then,  She accused me of being rude, so I told her if she would prefer to talk to my lawyer, I could give her the information.  She didn't want the information.  So I believe she is going to call back again and again and again.  I have no idea what it is in regards to, I just wish I knew how to block that number from sktel.

The telephone number 1-877-397-5360 is a toll free number for a Debt Collection Agency/Corporation called A.R.O.  They are contracted primarily by The Royal Bank of Canada as well as many other debt collection firms.  They have a reputation of being rude, belligerent and demanding.  To persist in frequent attempts at contact can be interpreted as "harassment" and legal action can be taken against this company if you can prove harassment.  I would recommend keeping a log of all their calls and even recording all conversation, should you choose to converse with them. Bare in mind, that these companies keep on staff a great number of lawyers within their legal departments, as does RBC.  To litigate such a matter can be quite costly.

The telephone number in question is for a collection agency known as A.R.O.  They are under contract to the Royal Bank of Canada who in turn has a habit of using multiple collection agencies.  If they become too persistent, you can take legal action against them under the charge of "harassment".  However, these are big companies that have well paid lawyers on staff in their legal department.  Be prepared to spend a lot of money to litigate.

These people have bugging me on and off for 5 yrs. I consolidated my debt including student loans ten yrs. Ago and they claim I owe. Its not on my credit report anywhere that I owe so im not worried. I question their credibility myself. They called relatives and were rude telling them they were liars and assuming they were me. I told them I will pay the bank directly. Im not getting bullied and threatened into paying money I know damn well I dont owe.
