I did the three free trail for magazines. I cancelled them on January 27, 2014. On 5/5/2014 I was charged for and one magazine subscription and on 6/14/14 I was charged for the other 2. I called the number and the it is only automated and just keeps telling me these were cancelled on January 27, 2014. I cannot talk to a human to get this resolved. Please help me I don't receive these magazines anymore and don't want to be paying for them. One is $22.04, $4.97, $19.50. daily_double@bellsouth.net

I did purchase a free trial but when I got the bill I wrote Cancel on it and mail them back in. Today I saw that my checking account had been debited. I was in complete shock, how did they get my card information...l called the number on my checking account and spoke to someone and told them the charges were completely unauthorized and asked how they got my card info....well when I purchased my books at BAm they got that information since I used my debit. I was horrified that they could do this without being told what would happened. I told the magazine rep that was a sleazy way to do business and I was never told about this...plus i had written CANCEL on the bills and mailed them back in to the company. He assured me I would have my money back in 2 or 3 business days and told me the subscriptions were cancelled. I just checked my account it has only been a couple of hours and the money has been refunded. Today is a holiday but tomorrow I am calling my credit union and having them blocked just in case.... What a sleazy unethical way to do business and BAM should stop this and alert their customers. I do wonder if anything can be done about this legally?

I checked my bank statement today and saw a charge of $24.50 from what seemed a magazine subscription. I went over my my statement and the charges for subscriptions amounted to almost $60. I have been receiving magazines: National Geographic, Real Simple, Times for a couple of weeks. After calling my bank, then one of the number on the statement I found out I was subscribed to these magazines by Books a Million (retail promotion.) I immediately called Books a Million in Concord, NC spoke to a manager and gave her a piece of my mind. I had been told I was going to receive free magazines and how does Book a Million dare to give my credit card info away. Anyways, I was told to call Synapse at 1-877-373-6866. The subscriptions were canceled and I am supposed to get a refund within 72 hrs.

It happened to me too. I was pissed and told them to refund my money and cancel the subscription. They charged my account for $12 and the only thing I can think of also is from BAM too. Make sure you call and tell them to refund your money and cancel. Get that person name and call id#.

I called and used the number listed above 1800-586-5298 to speak with somebody to cancel it... after a bit of incredulous questioning the guy kindly refunded my money and cancelled my subscriptions... I guess I had signed up for it at BAMM... weird that they would charge without notifying us. Definitely give the number a try to get your money back.

I went to Books a Million to buy something and the cashier offered me a free magazine trial so i agreed and signed up for entertainment magazine. He told me i would get shipped magazines for free and if i wanted to keep the magazines coming in the mail then i would have to renew the subscription. I got a couple magazines and then saw that i got charged $20 in my bank account. im currently on the line with my bank to cancel this purchase that i wasnt aware of. He clearly said it was free and that i had to choose to renew it. i never chose to renew my subscription. Hopefully my bank can settle things and get my money back because i went down $20. I'm already struggling with having enough to pay other bills, i dont need my account being charged anything excess. You should call your bank right away. I just got off the phone and they said they will refune my money in 72 business hours and send me one or two more magazines as complimentary for apologies. the guy from the company was very nice about it and explained everything. I would recommend to go ahead and just dodge the bullet by not even signing up for things like this anywhere. Saves time and issues. 877-417-3309 NY is the number it showed up as in the charge.

So I just used the website address that one of the users posted on here to cancel my subscription from BAM, just wanted to know does that work? Or do I have to call them as well to make sure they aren't giving me the run around and will charge me for mags I don't want
MariW 2013-07-12 18:59:58 Unknown
Was able to get our magazines cancelled. The trick with that number is as others have said - press 0 and it will take you to a rep. Watch them because they might try and tell you that they can't find your information. I happened to have called and used the automated system and had a reference number. I gave the person that number and she was able to find my info. She kept trying to offer me a few extra months free, but I told her that I didn't want anything.
When the call was finished, she was ready to hang up and I asked for a reference number for the call so that I could refer to it if I had to call back again.
Make sure you get a reference number!

I, too, had to call and cancel. After repeating over & over to the telemarketer, i had to finally say, "cancel". It's the code word, apparently. Saying you want your money back & you don't want the magazines or subscription isn't good enough. Once I got the code word out, he was very helpful. I'll be getting my refunds of $24.50 & $58.50 back in one to two business days. I am just thankful I keep a $100 cushion in that account.

When you call hit "O". It will take you to a rep. :)

I got a charge on my acct for COSMO Magazine. When at BAM a few months ago the lady told me that BAM was giving me a few free magazines and that if I didn't want them after 3 months just to do nothing and I wouldn't get them anymore. Well low and behold the girl had no idea what she was talking about and I started getting bills for 4 magazines. (I will be making a trip into BAM to talk to a manager soon too, don't worry). I called the number 877-417-3309 and got the run around in an automated system. Trick: just hit "0" it will get you to a rep quick (even though he automated system tells you there will be a long wait). Just be stern! I gave them no wiggle room and told them how disappointed I was in the way they collected business. I told them it was unacceptable and in about a 2 min conversation They canceled and are refunding my money.... lesson learned: If it sounds too good to be true... it probably is!
Bri 2013-06-17 19:38:37 Unknown
How do you talk to a real person? An automated voice machine keeps answering and I just want to get rid of the subscription.
Feenix 2013-05-30 10:49:36 Unknown
Thanks for that condescending tone. I'm glad that you're such a model employee. Unfortunately, the one that I rung out with never told me the part about automatic renewal and charges. My wife was standing right there too, and we're both good listeners. It wasn't until the second time this happened that another cashier explained it correctly. Keep in mind that not everyone does their job well, Mr. Snippy.

just had the same thing. Called to my bank and claimed a fraud case. I never agreed to any magazine
gabriella 2013-04-14 05:02:42 Unknown
You call the number that is next to the transaction number or what not and you go through the automated system even if it is a fraud do it , and the bot tells you that you will be refunded in 1-2 business days so I'm expecting my 22.91 in 1-2 days TWX*COSMO 877-789-1033 that is what mine looked like . i didn't get tricked into anything else i kept just saying no and no and i cancelled all of the charges completely

Do you know that the conformation #'s only is a confo that you canceled you subscription/s and they are now calculating your remaining subscription time so you can get your partial refund !!! IT's TRUE look further on the website for your updated subscription/s and you will see!!! I am a fully committed heterosexual male but I can now say that I think may have passed out and now my butt hurts and I found myself headed for the corner of the room that should have the sign VIOLATED above it !!! LOLOFen L. just a little humor or whatever to help us to better days and transactions that we approve and are aware of !!! GOOD LUCK

What a Bunch of s*** !! I never asked for the magazines (plural) 3 in all $35 for 1 $25 for another and $13 for the third !! How the hell can any person/company just submit a request to our banks for payment and walk away with my money?? I asked for my money back and had to first cancel the subscription/s then I see on my updated page that I am only getting part of the money taken ----*&+_)((*&^%^ !!!! I called the Phone # attached to the withdrawn notice and it wasn't the company that took out the funds and had no record or knowledge on these magazines WTF !! I feel that the bank is ultimately at fault for approving the transaction/s in the first place without approval from me!!!! OH DID I MENTION THAT THIS ACCOUNT WAS IN PROCESS OF CLOSING AND THERE WASN'T ENOUGH FUNDS TO COVER THESE SO ANOTHER $90 FOR I.S. NO KISS, NO DINNER, NO F-en LUBE !! I'M SORE and CHAFFED I GOTTA GO --- GOOD LUCK TO ALL !!!!

Never leave it up to the manager. It won't get done. I work at BAM and have so for two years, the most simple way to cancel is www.magassist.com

Haha 10 a week? I work at BAM as well, try 61 a week

I also went to Books-A-Million and was offered three free people maganizes. There was nothing said about a $58.50 charge that would be taken out of my account. When the charge showed up on my bank account, did a search on phone number that was listed with the charge. Found this site and discovered it was connected to Book-A-Million. Called Books-A-Million and the manager said the charge would be reverse.
