Debt Collector
I had a Charles Clay message left on our phone a couple of weeks ago. I knew it was a scam but it was still creepy, but it's also funny--the notion that he is delivering subpoenas to people in all 50 states every day, and visiting us all both at home and work! I was supposed to be scared at the thought I would be embarrassed by my boss HAVING to sign for the documents.

I wish people were not so gullible as to end up verifying that their phone numbers are active by calling them back, or responding in ways that engage them and entice them to keep calling. These fake debt collectors would be breaking and entering but now can just call people and make a lucrative income, apparently, by trying to defraud and intimidate people. I am in the process of getting us a new phone blocker and hope to dramatically cut the number of these calls that prompt us to stop what we are doing in order to check CID.  We have screened most calls for many years, but now we NEVER pick up the phone unless it is someone we know well. We are weary of the "toll free calls" with fake debt collecting, fake computer support people hoping to get access into our CPUs, fake credit scams, fake insurance sales, alarm sales, fake charities, and bank phishing schemes. We are keeping a database of all unwanted calls, tracking dates, times, etc., and  blocking what we can. We clearly see patterns of escalation as we block some numbers, meaning that the scammers seem desperate to get our attention.  These forums can be helpful to figure out possible sources and patterns of calls. We started getting calls with 000s and other strange things until we got the call blocker, which isn't working optimally with our service and equipment yet, but does block the 0000 calls, for one--the phone rings once and nothing shows up on CID which is wonderful. Some of these dumb bags of poop have been calling every day for 6 months, not yet realizing that the fact that the calls disconnect after one ring means that we have blocked them and have no intention of EVER picking up, much less one day deciding, "OK...since you have been calling every day for 6 months we are going to give in and just let you take everything we have so we end up on the streets."  I have been tempted to answer, "WHYYYYYYYYYYY are you soooooooooooo stupid?????????  WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY do you keep calling when it should be obvious we are not going to talk to you and not ever going to give you money???   Yet I know that if I do that I won't deter them. They will just keep trying.  Dumb poops have a rather bad business model!

One of the worst things that many do not seem to understand yet is that there is a lot of spoofing going on.  DO NOT TRUST CID or  how these people identify themselves! They can spoof legitimate numbers or give the impression of legitimacy in order to get you on the phone. They can set up phones to answer as if they are the legitimate business, and websites listing those numbers but be completely fake.  We had this years ago in another city with scammers who were spoofing a well-known and well-respected charity, calling multiple times a day, filling the answering machine with hangups,  but never leaving a message. I kept contacting the charity and finally realized that they too were being victimized.   This crap will not stop until people stop falling for their ploys. Pass the word, and make sure your parents know not to answer these calls and to NEVER give out info to unknown callers.

Plus a Sheriff comes and summons you to court and does not call a head to let you know hes coming. SCAM

I received a missed call from this #, they left me a voice mail. I called the # back just to f--k with them. The guy said if I failed to respond then a warrant would be issued for my arrest.  I told the dips--t to go ahead & put out a warrant for my arrest.  He said a U.S. Marshall would come & arrest me. I told the dumba-- to go ahead & contact them seeing how the U.S. Marshalls Office Only Track Down & arrest felons. 1st. Off you can't be arrested for failing to pay an outstanding debt, only arrested for criminal offenses. Stupid F---s are just trying to get you to pay an outstanding debt that is probably about to drop off of your credit.  F--K them!!!!!

Got message at my office from Charles warning of summons for me, etc. -- I called the # without giving any info, spoke with Robert Curshaw of Legal Outsourcing, he didn't ask my name but ran the phone number through their records & and turns out they were looking for the employee who last had this phone number, who I happen to know left a trail of bad debt.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Spoke with a totel jerk yesterday about an old credit card debt of my husbands he claims he can our checking account repo my car which is in my name and has nothing to do with this old debt and garnish wages all this for $4000 this nuts to put someone through this stress and to top it off I offered to set up a payment plan with him and claimed it was unacceptable. I didn't know debt collection companies could make threats like this. They even called my mother in law and discussed everything with her asking her to send the money in telling her they could take her property. Something just doesn't sound right about this.

I have received several of these messages also so I called Verizon to report it. The Verizon rep called the number and told me it is not a scam. I called the number and a man named Robert Curshaw said they are a legal outsourcing company and man times their phone numbers are incorrect. He took mine off their call list. If you continue to receive these. it is safe to call and have your number removed also. FYI kinda scared me at first too

Charles Clay has a summons in hand for me. He is scheduled to go out to my home or place of employment within the next 24 hours. Please make yourself available with 2 forms of valid ID. If you are served your summons at work the head of security will need to sign as a witness. Failure to sign may result in a missed court appearance. If you have any concerns or questions, you will need to contact the party that is filing against you at 1-877-418-8784.

Wouldn't I be billed first, by a creditor, if I owed someone? Wouldn't I already know about a debt owing, if I had one?

So i just got about the 15th call form this DB.  The funny thing is that they have YET to appear at my home, or employer, and my credit has NO such judgment.  A creditor can move froward once they evidence their failed attempts to collect - REGARDLESS of a persons willingness to participate in the collection process, they will simploy place a judment - and you will never go to jail for it.  So i tell this guy, with a big smile - GO FAKYOURSELF!!!

Grab an adult beverage out of the fridge. See if there is any baseball on tv this afternoon, & have a good laugh. Next time they call, ask them 'How's the weather in India today?'. Because that's where you call is coming from. Ever watch the Fox tv show 'Cops'? Ever see a cop, or process server call you in ADVANCE? Enjoy the baseball.

I had a call form "Charles". Did not ask for anyone, but as soon as I answer went on with he had a summons to deliver in the next 24-48hrs I needed two valid forms of id and if at work a security supervisor would need to sign as witness. If he fails to deliver the summons I will have a warrant for my arrest as a failure to appear. He then went on to say if I had questions I needed to call the issuing party.  The number he gave was the number he was calling from!  I tried to ask for whim he was calling for and he re read what he just said, obviously reading a script he couldn't deviate from.  Have no idea whom he wanted but I am not calling the number.  If he thinks he will be at my house, go for it...he couldn't even tell me whom he was calling for.  He did state he was from legal couriers.
