Unfortunately I've been sent the same spam text message as well. The exact message goes as follows:

From: 1234
NETSPEND Alert: Your CARD has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 877-532-8980 to REACTIVATE your CARD.

What a load of crap! NetSpend is an actual company, who issues pre-paid debit cards, but this company I do not think are the ones actually sending the text messages. Just the spammers who think they'll get a lucky hit with an actual NetSpend customer who will believe it and freak out enough to actually send their card information to them.

This is a phishing scam.  Do not call that number since the criminals will get all of your account information.  I believe the number has already been disconnected now.

Has anyone bothered to call or email the BBB? I will be reporting the problem but it will take more then one person to get anything done about it. I also suggest calling boost to let them know someone has hacked their system as if they don't already know.

I just got this message a few minutes ago. But the number I was given is 713-344-1506. Seems like they might be operating out of Houston, TX because i noticed one other post that also had a houston number in this same year. I do have a netspend card, but immediately checked my account online and my card had not been deactivated. So now I think I am getting rid of that card if this is such a common occurence. My last transaction was Blockbuster online and have never had a problem with them. So it must only be a netspend thing. Text came from  SNPPRcv@BST4.dummyCarrier.com   How these scammers expect to be believable with a email like that........ dumb criminals preying on the weak.

Sheperd, No one here said they called and you are suggesting that you know all of the phone numbers that all of you credit cards may call from, I really doubt that. Anyway, I too got the same msg and then checked the internet and did not call back. This seems like it has something to do with SPRINT. SPRINT is f****ng shady.

Same message for me...This is not 'spam', but rather an illegal attempt to get debit card info and use other people's money.  It's called THEFT and should be dealt with as such!

Same as all the above. Quite disconcerting given that I have had credit card and check fraud problems lately.

I got exactly the same message at 4:17 central time October 5th.  I did call the number but was unable to get anywhere due to the fact that I do not have a card from them.
I then looked up the number to the corporate office and was not able to reach them either.  I called the number and was on hold for 5 or 6 minutes.  I want this company shutdown!

"NETSPEND Alert: Your CARD has been DEACTIVATED. Please contact us at 877-532-8980 to REACTIVATE your CARD."

Although I think it's merely a coincidence, it's worth mentioning that a little more than 10 minutes before receiving this I purchased tickets on the Palmer Events Center website (I provided my cell number as "Evening Phone" - a required field).
