So upset this company has been calling me about an old pay day loan from 2007 that they claim I didn't pay and that it bounced with my bank at the time Bank of America. I vaguely remember this but I really thought I cleared it up. I was not sure so I gave Jeff Rivers my load card and he put $50 on it towards the debt I asked him to send me paperwork and he never did. So when he was suppose to take out more money I stopped it. I never got paperwork or the email he claims he sent me. He called me again and I told him that I wasn't going to pay until I get the paperwork on the validity of the debt since it is so old. He kept claiming he sent it and he wasn't going to deal with my bi-polar issues. (crazy) got mean I went to a supervisor and I told her I would gladly pay the debt but I need proof of the debt. They keep claiming they sent it to me. I only received some wierd paper from another collection agency in NY but nothing was written about this debt. This gets even wierder. I called back for Name and Address of their company and a crazy man starts cursing at me and saying I am going to jail. I wrote a bad check for a payday loan and I am in trouble and will be prosecuted. This is so crazy I reported them to the District attorney office and filed a complaint. When I tried to call back again to get the name of the company Jeff Rivers got on the phone and said your file is closed we wont deal with you anymore. How strange. All I wanted was paperwork. Scary. I still don't know if I owe this. I am going to try to call my old bank and see what they have.
Really?
Really?

This financial mediation group of scammers is pretty ridiculous. And for the people who are posting "I paid this debt and about how legit this company is" are probably people from this group of scammers lying to get people to believe them. A couple of months ago, I received a call from Jeff Rivers. He told me about this debt I owed and blah blah. Well, I called the credit card company from which I used to owe this credit card (which I defaulted on bc I was young and dumb in college and paid a legitimate debt collector and it's now written off my on my credit report about 5 years ago). I have been closely monitoring my credit ever since and have purchased Life Lock 2 years ago just because my mother's identity had been stolen...anyway long story short....I called the bank of my so called debt, not only did they have no record of any recent debt, but since my credit is so high right now (730) they OFFERED ME A LINE OF CREDIT. So I think it's HILARIOUS that this Jeff Rivers and these scum scammers are trying to come after me over this "debt" when the credit card company is willing to open a line of credit for me after I defaulted on their credit card 5 years ago. In addition to all this, I received 2 "written letters" of the debt I so-called owed them. The first letter said one amount and the second letter said a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AMOUNT with the same "account number". I mean really? Please, PLEASE do not pay these people. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

The posters don't "think" they never took out the loan - they KNOW they never took out the loan.  Per the FDCPA, no one should pay any caller unless they MAIL a debt validation letter showing that they owe a debt (giving original creditor, amount still owed, date of last payment) and that the caller has the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this DV letter within five days of the first call is a violation of federal law.  "OKAY MAYBE YOIU DIDNT TAKE THE LOAN OUT BUT AGAIN THEY BOUGHT THE ACCOUNT WITH YOUR NAME. THEY DID NOT MAKE THE WHOLE THING UP!"  Come again?  That's exactly what they did - they made the whole thing up!  No one should pay scammers!

Do you have proof we all owe? The operations often call outdated numbers that no longer belong to the parties in question.

I didn't think so.

They did make the whole thing up. That's how con men and scammers work. They didn't pull your name out of a hat, they bought it on a shady Russian web site that sells names, phone numbers, credit card numbers, etc.

Wow, doing a "chain of title".  That isn't exactly normal "consumer speak".  What kind of debt was it?  It appears that many of the types of debts this "group" tries to collect are not normally reported on the "big three" credit reports.

As an added update, we got the Michael Bernstein call from this place as well, from a 706.510.3789 number.  Thus far, both our banks have launched fraud investigations on them, b/c they can't find any information on this "company".  Filing a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, they were also unable to get any information on this "company" and sent it to the FTC (well I also filed a separate complaint).  Since we got a second call where they portrayed being someone from Dekalb County with a court order, they are looking into it too.  This Financial Mediation Group is clearly some type of scam.

Your answer is incorrect in NY, NJ  and probably many other states.  In NY, in order to enter a default judgment, which is what happens in most collection cases, an attorney must submit an affirmation that he/she has examined the records of the plaintiff and that his/her examination shows that the Statute of Limitations has not run.  If a suit is filed where the SOL has run, the attorney would be subject to suit for both frivolous litigation and violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act.  In NJ, by signing a pleading, an attorney is certifying that the factual allegations in the pleading have factual support.  If the SOL has run, then there is no factual support for a complaint.  So he or she is again subject to suit for frivolous litigation and violation of the FDCPA.
Lastly, civil debts such as loans and credit cards are not subject to enforcement by criminal action.  A bounced check maybe but not the debt itself.  Debtor prisons have been abolished in the US for quite some time.

They randomly called me about an hour ago, as I'm at work, they had to leave a voicemail. In the voicemail, the guy threatened me severely about garnishing my wages & freezing my income tax for a Walmart credit card that was supposedly obtained in December 2006 and they are suing me for $2,000+. I immediately knew it was bs because I've only had one Walmart card and that was in 2003-2004 and it only had a $250 limit, which was paid off and destroyed. The guy was incredibly rude & sarcastic and cursed me out for not paying my debts & said that he'd have a sheriff serve me in 72 hours. Yes, I flew off the deep end and asked for his supervisor...SURPRISE: he was the supervisor and there was nobody over him. I asked him to send me verification of this debt...he wouldn't because he said it was sent in December of 2013 (another lie). I kept asking or a supervisor and he put me on hold for about 3seconds and picked back up pretending to be someone else! He was laughing and having fun with the conversation, but I was becoming more upset. He hung up on me, I dialed right back and a lady answered the phone saying she was the supervisor! I explained all that I'd been through, she asked me to hold on and actually hung up on me!! By now I'm furious as I call back again & am directed to some woman saying she is the director of the whole operation :-/ and they can sue me and do whatever they want because I signed up for the loan--which I know is not right! She proceeded to curse me out & call me irresponsible among other things, then she hung up on me! I have no idea what this company is trying to prove, but I'm calling the sheriff's office in my hometown because this cannot be allowed!

Jeff Rivers called me Jan 2nd trying to collect a debt. I made an arrangement with a prepaid card just to keep calls off my back. That Thursday I got a call from Johnson and Johnson financial services about the same debt, however they had wwaayyy more info..they had my ss#,ip address, account I made payday loan on, references etc, so to hear I was getting sued was For Real.  I made settlement with them to just end all ties. LONG STORY SHORT, I called Financial mediation services today, spoke with Jeff Rivers to make sure he knew account was settled, and he fussed me out. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!  He said he was the boss and I should of kept my arrangement with him. I explained how I didn't care about his commission, I only cared about my debt!! Im ssooo reporting that company.

I just got a call from 513-334-0666 Financial Mediation Group Henry Winestien clamied to know all of my addresses, last four of social, and threatened me with court, extra fines, costs, etc. Said I would have papers tomorrow if I didn't comply. There were three different people who explained things over the phone making it sound scary. I asked for their address and said it's from Jacksonville, FL. Phone number is Ohio number. I agreed to make a money order payment and they said they needed a tracable account. They then said I could put it on a prepaid card after I told them I just had cash. I then said my boyfriend could pay it but he said I could just give him his card info. I told him I had to call and ask him first. I then done research and found this forum. I called the police, the place I owed the debt, and Ohio's attorney general. They all advised not to pay and wait for paperwork if they're real, they must provide paperwork. It's a scam and don't be fooled.

This people are calling my parents phones again, they have all of our phone numbers (mobile #s & home).  What I don't understand is that the person whom they are looking for Mr. Rogelio Castillo is not anyone we know nor are we related to.  We've told them over and over again that we have no idea who that is and that we do not have a relative who goes by that name.  We were told the same things, that there is a pending case against a Mr. Rogelio Castillo and that they are located in Orange County but they would not give me their company name and I highly doubt that Mike was the real name of the person I spoke with on the phone.

Something is not adding up here.

Not OK, do you owe money any where? It really seems like you are trying to disguise your actions and place the blame elsewhere. Do you need a Dr. Phil moment? I think he is on channel 2 or 9. Cry to him, maybe he will help you. Stop whining about your sorry situation and take credit for your own actions. Man-up and face your own problems. You might gain some clarity.
