This phone number is calling to try to SCAM money for the NJ Fraternal Order of Police. I have NOT called the number, nor will I.  It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions using potentially manipulative techniques, help you waste your donation on fundraising fees, or anything else related to the FOP getting a small fraction of your donation, 12% to 27% Some fundraiser's pocket as much as 73% to 90% and up. Also, there?s information on www.badgefraud.org on the massive numbers of warnings put out by FOP Lodges that do not use so called professional fundraisers and Real Police and Sheriff and Fire Departments. But you can contact them there with any questions or requests.

BadgeFraud (dot) org is doing a lot of really great things for POLICE OFFICERS FAMILIES and the people that post are NOT trying to raise money, they are trying to protect the money of the people who protect us, and that is something very good.

Telemarketer
They called 8am, hung up on them.  Called back and got an recording - Fraternal order of Police.  They do offer an option to remove your number, its supposed to take effect in 72 hours, we'll see.  I have been on the Do Not Call list for years and it amazes me how many are "okay" to call, it really makes being on the do not call list a waste.  My local police dept. had advised never to donate to these charities.

I called the number back. It's the NJ Fraternal Order of Police. They have an automated system where you can press 2 to be removed from their calling list. It's supposed to take effect within 72 hours.

Caller stated that it was my "Credit Card company" and if I didn't call back, my card would be invalidated. They left no additional information with family member. Very sneaky trick!

Telemarketer
I had a radio talk show playing in the background and it was amusing to hear how the automated creep system responded to the talk show.  Very cool.

charity solicitations are EXEMPT from DONOTCALL as our SURVEY's and Political robocalls.

(Telemarketers may illegally use SURVEY's to bypass the DONOTCALL laws - once you complete the Survey - they try to sell you something)   If its just a SURVEY - no issue - once they try to SELL you something - then its a violation.

Most of these calling for POLICE charities  are SCAMS anyway

Telemarketers calling on behalf of Charities - KEEP MOST OF THE MONEY THEY GET PEOPLE TO DONATE.  that is how they get PAID for their services.

Never DONATE via a telemarketer - Donate DIRECTLY to the charity itself.  CALL YOUR LOCAL PD for information on LEGITIMATE Police charities - where you know 100% of your donation will go to the Charity intead of the 10 - 15% they get from telemarketers.

Also inform the Charity to Stop using telemarketers - remind them that NO one wants a telemarketer calling - and you cannot tell they ARE LEGIT or not

A fairly sophisticated machine that responded to what I said with appropriate responses - trying to mock being a live person. Despite working pretty well it fell into Max Headroom like spasms at times revealing itself to be a recording.  Call claims to be for police benefit.

Called in defiance of National Do Not Call List. I am reporting the call to the FCC.
