For me it was Consumer Cellular who is my cell phone company. I tried to send a message but got a message back telling me the message could not go through.

Received call on a number I NEVER give out, very troubling. After some research discovered the following:
Area code 877 is one of the area codes reserved for toll-free calls in which the calling party is not charged. Instead, the telephone carrier charges the cost of the call to the called party.
Suffice it to say I will NOT be answering any calls with an area code of 877.
