Who are these jerks? Why are the texting me?

Got a text from them today - saying to call this number to get my $200 rebate. How annoying!!!!

Received a text to call this number for my Walmart Gift Card lol. Scam...

Also got text stating won a Walmart gift card.....how convenient....

Got a text saying I won a wal-mart/ Visa Gift Card.  Must be a scam?  Right?  Returned call from my home number and it seemed to click like a transfer.  one time they put me on hold...no scammer available at the time.

Got a call this morning.

Message text follows:

Received a message on 12/14/10 from 814-384-1870. It said Hello and Thank You. Please call 877-891-9915 for your Wal Mart Gift Card. Then gave a gift code.   Glad I looked on here first to see that it was a scam before I called.

THIS IS A SCAM and this is how it works: When you accept the freebie card(s), buried in the fine print is authorization to charge your card with negative-option subscriptions for weird services. Negative-option means they keep charging every billing cycle until you cancel the subscription and sometimes the scammers make it very difficult to cancel. The law says this is legal, I say it's a scam because consumers cannot be expected to read the fine print when they're receiving a gift. Tell your bank this is fraud and demand they refund *all* the charges. Do not use the word "dispute" because your bank will tell you to work it out with the charging party and you know that's hopeless. Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG.

Definitely looks like a scam.  I just got this text from 216-682-6529:

Please call 877-891-9915 for the Wal-Mart and Visa Gift Card.

Didn't open it after seeing what was listed here, but the text came from 2345219517.  All I can see is: Please call 877-891-9915. Your... don't think I will open it and give them the satisfaction.  Better to just block it.

i called the txt and the said he was an a**le scammer

I got a txt from 2164825599 to call and they said they wanted my cc # for 1 dollar s&h fee

called from 419-612-4482 to call 877-891-9915 for a $200 fake voucher ...stop these creeps!

got the same $200 voucher text from 419-612-4482 they said to call back 877-891-9915 beware

I got both of them.  Where is this coming from?

Does anyone know the source of this text?

OK...just checked the number & of course it still does not tell us who is doing this to us.  It's not as if any of us have the extra money it cost us to get the scam text messages. I do not understand why the powers that be can't take care of this for us, especially if we are on the DNC list for our cell phones

Received a call today from them as well, no message, I reported this number to the FBI.

Just received the same "Your $200 Rebate Voucher is Ready ... Thanks for visiting the Website" msg. I knew it was a scam, so I won't waste time replying/calling them.

I got this call and told them I'm not interested in anything they are offering

I share your pain but the truth is the DoNotCall Registry only blocks ethical telemarketers but not charities, surveys, political parties, or scammers, this case being scammers.

I too got the text msg on my cell phone.  "PLEASE CALL 877-891-9915.  YOUR $200 REBATE VOUCHER IS READY.  THANKS FOR VISITING THE WEBSITE"...First of all why do we register on the "Do Not Call" list if they don't work.  Second, I never visited a web sight to have received a "rebate".  Thre is a difference between a "rebate" and "winning" something.  Why can't someone out there save us little people of the world from these jerks.

I received this text today also.  My cell phone number is listed with the Do Not Call Registry.

I received a text message like everyone else stating I would receive a $200 voucher. I called the number listed, and the convo went like this:

Them: "Hi, can I have your first and last name please?"
Me: "Um...I'm actually calling because I received a text message saying I got a voucher...??"
Them: "What is your name?"
Me: "No, I didn't sign up for anything. I'm just confused what this is."
Them: "Someone may have signed up under your name."
Me: "But what is the voucher for?"
Them: ::hang up::

They hung up when I asked! What the baloney!?

Also received a text today - Same as Pam above. I hold these people in the same regard as drug dealers.
