You are correct, they want updated credit card info. However, DirectTV has a PROBLEM. Even when the customer has responded to e-mail and updated expired CC info online as they request they still continue these harassing phone calls until you repeat the CC info to their staff on the phone.
It is no wonder their service is expensive, they are PAYING THESE FOLKS to keep calling even 1-2 months after you have updated your info until you RECITE IT TO THEM ON THE PHONE!! Even when you tell them you are at work and prefer not to give your CC card info over the phone! This is for an account that has been fully paid in good standing, for over 12 yr customer. What a waste of everyone's time and resources! Harrassing business practices!

Keep getting calls from (888)265-3955.
I don't answer any calls that don't identify themselves, so I don't know who this is.

Called DirecTv 5/31/14 & they confirmed that this is a fraud. I made a report to them & they are doing an investigation & will advise me once completed.

It says it's from Direct TV about our automatic bill pay. We do not have Direct TV and never have had it. They even call on Sunday mornings and Memorial Day at 8:15 AM. Plus week days.
William 2014-05-16 17:17:06 Unknown
I agree that this is a scam. My accounts are in good standing with a valid cc. I get calls from this number to my TX home, my FL condo and my cell phone. Two of those numbers are NOT associated with any Directv account. I checked my accounts online and spoke with a rep at their 800 531 5000 number. Word to the wise as others have said in this thread: Never give out your cc info to anyone that calls you for it. Call their advertised 800 number or validate online. 05 16 2014

Yeah, a little more than a month ago I used my card at Texas Roadhouse in Pflugerville... I didn't use the card for about a week, but suddenly noticed fraudulent activity in Mexico. So I had the card turned off... Which gave directv a legitimate reason to call me from this number. So essentially this was an "event reminder". It's sort of a debt collector, but not really...

You are 100% correct Mark.

Amazing how you people assume it's fraud because your situation isn't the same as others. I got a call from this number, did not answer, went to DirecTVs site and updated my credit card which HAD expired and I knew it. The number could be used for other purposes as well, but it is 100% DirecTV for sure.

Calls from Direct TV re: immediate action required on my account. I do not have an account
TJ 2014-04-28 20:13:02 Unknown
I get a call from this number everyday...Sometimes several times a day!
ihatescamcallers 2014-04-23 16:32:47 Unknown
This absolutely is fraud/scammer.
ihatescamcallers 2014-04-23 16:30:36 Unknown
This is not a Direct TV caller.... I am current on my auto pay...so whomever this is calling its fraud

Know one on the line
Marrie 2014-03-22 22:26:59 Unknown
I get the calls every morning. Wanting me to update bill pay. I checked. I'm updated . Fraud call I believe. Also , I called direct tv and they checked my account and it did not need to be updated. I called 1-800-531-5000, instead of calling the number on the voice recorder. Think they are phishing for credit cards.
LifeOnAString 2014-03-16 16:51:08 Unknown
Can't see how this is legit. I have a DirecTV account, but my account is current (checked online) and my c/c does not expire for at least two years. It could be a DirecTV sales call, but Google could not find this number on the directv.com site. I wonder if those who "updated their information" are not going to be getting that new fraudulent $9.98 charge.
Anyway, they keep calling me and not leaving a message. If it was legit, they would.

confirmed with Jen, a billing supervisor this is a Directv collections phone number. I was called after auto bill pay rejected and was told to call this number. She said it was more proactive collections to prevent another auto bill pay rejection

This is legit. My debit card expired, and I needed to update it with direct tv.
Larry 2013-12-06 21:31:38 Unknown
I too received a call that I didn't answer. I called Directv on the regular number and talked to Customer Support. There was no information that needed to be updated.

This is a legitimate number. I just called DirecTV to find out. It's a third-party marketing company who is associated with DirecTV and they make special offers to DirecTV customers. You can call DirecTV directly and ask them to put a stop on your account so that you don't receive these marketing/sales calls.
Jenny B 2013-10-23 14:16:04 Unknown
I just got off the phone with DirectTV, I called their customer service number, 1-800-531-5000, instead of the 888 number, and they think someone not from DirectTV was fraudulently calling, trying to get my credit card information.
Theresa 2013-09-17 18:54:58 Unknown
I have been receiving unwanted phone calls from Directv for days. Almost every hour. What is their issue? I am changing my provider. This is the cherry on the top.
jd 2013-09-04 16:58:16 Event Reminder
This seems legit. They just wanted to verified my name/billing address. The call made sense as the old one on the account was compromised and just had to put a new one on the account. The rep said that it takes a while to update their system but she saw the new card on the account.
It's pretty unprofessional to make calls like this, but it is legit, or it's the worst phishing scam ever, because my first name/street address aren't gonna get them far lol.
robbie 2013-08-13 00:38:56 Unknown
Direct tv. i just ignore the calls. i pay my bill so i don't care if they call.
Dawn 2013-07-25 12:40:30 Unknown
Just gat this call at 8:15 AM. THANK YOU to all who put info on this site because now I know who and how to respond because I have Direct TV.
rudy ancira 2013-06-24 04:19:42 Unknown
this number has called me 5 times today and I want it to stop
BDH 2013-06-19 22:11:13 Debt Collector
It's not fraud. They do in fact make those calls. I gave them a new credit card over the phone. I then received an email. I gave them my wrong email address and they corrected me. They have your information already. Stop calling everything fraud with no information. You're either a goof or a liar.
Edwin 2013-06-18 14:26:18 Unknown
Seems legit...didn't answer but googled the number and found this site. Our bill is set to autopay and the card has expired. You can change it via "my profile" on the website.
DTV Customer 2013-05-31 17:38:19 Unknown
I also received a call from this number. It is not a scam they needed to update the information for an auto pay credit card which had expired. Don't worry about it.
Emily 2013-05-10 14:51:20 Unknown
Fraud. They try to get you to "update your billing information" but I don't even have a DirecTV account. sounds like fraud to me.
