A few friends and an old neighbor messaged me saying a Mary Anne from this Cambridge company called looking for me to file civil suit against me. I called the number they all had given me and this company is claiming I owe $2300+ from a checking account from 2006-2007 when I was a minor. I never had an account with the bank when I was a minor, and I actually bank with the same bank now. When I switched to this bank last year, nothing came up of owing an old account or anything when they ran my name and information. I told the guy, Michael, they were illegally giving out information to 3rd parties and I told him Wisconsin Verbal Cease and Desist. The freaked out on me saying how in refusing to pay my bills, how I need to be an adult and pay my bills, and over 20 times he threatened to file the "paperwork" for civil court to take all the money out of my checking accounts if I didn't call him back by the end of the day. I gave him my current address to mail me his 610 validation letter, in which he refused to mail me anything. I told him he was to only contact me through mail and to cease all calls to all the phone numbers they had. I ran my credit report and checked with my local Clerk of Courts, nothing came up against me. I called the BBB and reported this company for their illegal threats, refusing to provide validation of the supposed debt, refusing to cease calls, and violation of trying to collect a supposed debt past 7 years.
Anyone else get feedback from the BBB?
Should I contact the police too?

Well, parts of it are a scam. I am a Deputy who serves papers for the court. We NEVER give someone a heads up before service. These trolls are in California, and the papers would have to come from your LOCAL Court. You MAY owe a debt, but these people aren't coming to serve you.

Same thing happened to my husband. They called his work threatening arrest if he did not settle this debt (we never found out what the debt was). My husband gave me the number and I called it myself. The guy hung up on me when I told him my two sisters were both attorneys and one is also a judge. Then he called my husband on his cell phone and threatened to file harassment charges on ME!! This is just a scam.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This guy named Don White has been calling random family and non family members with the same last name looking for me,  gave them "case number"  but refused to tell anyone who he  for.  Came in as a Private number.  The number he gave her is 888-351-0851 which is listed as Cambridge Capital and the address is 28241 Crown Valley Rd Ste F403, Laguan Niguel CA 92677 (or it might be 92675) which is a UPS store.  So even if you send something certified to them they can and will claim they didnt get it because THEY dont actually have to sign for it! The UPS Store employee does.  Which really makes you wonder if they do that on purpose.

Received call from that number.  They left a message for someone who does not live there.  I called back to report a junk call and was rudely told that once I'd been served with papers, I'd better just follow instructions, and then to "have a nice day".  click.

Ask for proof of debt: In writing, by US Mail. No fax, text, or email. The letter must have a letterhead containing the companies name, address, and phone number. It also must show who the debt was originally with, for how much, & how much it is now.  It MUST be signed. Do NOT give them your address. A real debt collector would have it. Plus: Law cases are a matter of public record. If they say you're going to be sued, check your City, & State web sites. Get information on the company, & research it.

Continue to call my number after I have informed them over and over they have the wrong number.  They want me to give a message about filing a complaint against someone who is out of the country.  Every time they call, they always say that they are going to be serving some legal documents the next day and that they are a uniformed officer... to contact 1-888-268-3076 x221.  I guess they think that if they say that, it is suppose to scare you.  I told them to send them on...what they don't know is my spouse is really a lieutenant.   When you contact the number, they do not say anything when they answer and once you began asking them questions, they become very upset and rude because you do not give them what they want you to.  I have turned their information over to the attorney general office and have also contacted the administration that oversee the debt collecting companies.  What they do not understand is no matter what collection efforts they take, there are so many people without jobs, etc due to the declined economy.  All I can say is, they must receive a triple bonus or they go an extra mile for their clients, but at the end of the day, the account is still in collections...get in line with the rest of them until a person's situation changes.  What a bunch of jerks!!!

this is the second time they have done this... the last time was about 3 mos ago. they call my place of employment, stating they are trying to serve me papers. when I called them back (3 mos ago) I could never get anyone, but then they would call right back leaving a message the phone did not ring, went straight to voice mail stating that i failed to appear in court. This time they are saying the same thing ( i think you would have been able to serve papers in 3 months time....). I called again to the process server # (562-264-2611) and they transferred me to the  legal dept.(888-268-3076). The man on the phone was very rude, talked over me the entire time and still did not give me any info on what they were trying to serve. he said he has nothing to do with how the process server works, however i find that odd because they are the ones who hired them to "serve" me papers. If anyone knows of a way to get rid of them please let me know. thanks.

Just got a call saying they tried to serve me a summons but was unable to at my address.  Someone is always at my house every day 24/7, nobody ever tried to serve me.  They were rude, wanted me to provide my information but wouldn't tell me who their client was or how they got my name.  If anyone has there address I would appreciate it if you would share it with me.  Thanks.

I believe India's national TV station is playing a cricket game today. Go watch it. You are one of the worst shill's I've seen on this site in a long time. No command of the English language. You have to understand you're just making a fool of yourself, as no one believes a word you wrote.

When calling this number I was told by a very belligerent man that the number was for 'Cambridge Capital' asset management and that they send out complaints. When trying to ask for more information regarding them he became more and more belligerent; interrupting me and trying to talk over me.
