I got the call maybe 2 hours ago while on my lunch break, and didn't answer. I called back expecting it to involve something with my job. It was not. It was some guy on the other line, sounded skiddish with an indian voice on the other in. He clamed to be from Microsoft. I looked up the microsoft number for the customer service and their number is 877-568-2495. I looked into it and the people who called are not appart of Microsoft. The people calling are trying to hack in with your help and steal information. Not as they show you, but it is a way of fishing for information. No idea what their looking for, or trying to do, but it is illegal non the less. Dont allow them access.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

Received a phone call today from a customer service representative who stated that my computer was sending out malware apparently on a random basis and that I should allow him to go onto my computer (remotely) and demonstrate what files needed to be removed. I told him that I had Norton antivirus on my computer and if there was malware it would find it. He kept insisting that he be allowed to demonstrate what files need to be removed. I received a similar call, (and it sounds like from the same party) about a week ago with the same message. That phone call did not give up its number. This phone call did: 888-302-5894. With both phone calls, it was the arrogance of the party on the other end and his insistence that there was something wrong with my computer and he needed to be able to get on it and fix it that made me, in both situations have to hang up on him.
