For the past two weeks, we've even getting calls from this place. First they called my aunt (who is listed as our emergency contact is several places) and then got my mom's number, claiming she owes some bank money. That bank is not even a bank here in the east coast where we live! Scary thing though, they knew my mom's social security number. They kept demanding we pay the amount or they will take us to court, and that apparently they send us warning letters loads of times, which they didn't. She barely told me where she's calling from and whenever I would ask to be clear, she would reply all irritably "I already told you!", which was alarming for me as it was highly unprofessional. Anyways, I told her I'd like to see her try to take us to court and hung up. I reported it to the FTC and local authorities, so hopefully these scammers are busted soon!

Not only did they call my cell, they called my dad, my grandmother, my boyfriend, my boyfriends dad,  and my mothers ex boyfriend. How do they get all that information and know that those people are associated with me?  Its really creepy.

I got the same thing. About a card I had in 2008. I gave them my personal info until it dawned on me to look these people up. I have cancelled my card and intent on reporting them tomorrow. The person I spoke to was Joseph Gonzales at axm@legancyreliancegroup.com. But when I called the number back it was CF group and associates. Are they in any way related?

I had an identical experience almost to the letter, same guy. Total criminal "company" > their address is a stripmall in Anaheim. Ignore them, file an FTC complaint, file a complaint with your state consumer agency, call a lawyer if they pull your credit report or claim to be anything close to a law firm.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Debt Collector
got a call. looks like changed phone number to 855-318-3925. spoke with Robert Anderson who told me this is from a debt that is time-barred. Said the orig debt was $600.00 and is now $3,027.30. He will take $300.00 to stop collection actions. He said they tried to serve me 3 times unsuccessfully and so it is now going to court for judgement. No one has tried to serve me. I am disabled and home all day. He claims they are now serving a warrant with a court date. I asked what the court date is, but he said I will find it on page 3 of the documents when they are served. I told him this debt is time-barred so going to court will be a waste of time. Then, he tried to tell me there are ways around that. They could file a C-1099 with the IRS and my wages, checking acct, etc will be garnished. I advised him I am not stupid and know what a C-1099 is. If you receive a C-1099, it is simply an amount charged off by a debtor and you now owe taxes on it unless you show you were insolvent at the time you defaulted on the debt. If you show you were insolvent, no taxes are owed. It is sent the year the debt is written off. In my case, the debt was written off 5 years ago, so no C-1099 will come now. When I told him that. He got very angry and demanded I pay him this debt NOW. I hung up. They hate to get anyone with any knowledge about debt collections because they can't scam them into paying them money you are no longer legally obligated to pay.
They are scammers. Don't pay them a dime. If they do show up to serve you, GO TO COURT. Tell the judge this is time-barred and the case will be dismissed. If you don't show up for court, they can win by default and you get a judgement giving them the right to garnish wages, checking account, etc. DON'T PAY THEM A DIME. If you make any payments what so ever to them, the satute of limitations start over.

Hey Folks,

I ended up being another victim of this so called CFG Group! I thought it was a debt collector trying to serve me. They harassed my family and my job with phone calls looking for me trying to serve me with a summons. Because I was stressed out I contacted the person who left me a message on my answering machine. He claimed that the company was an acquisitions company who acquired my debt from GE Money Bank. The man said he could help me make a counter offer that would put a stop to the summons if I made arrangements with them to accept this counter offer.

To make a long story short, here I am thinking I am making the right decision and thought I was doing the right thing by agreeing to the settlement. It was only for $800.00. I had agreed via Email ( he said it was a good enough signature ) that they would accept it as me signing the deal. I originally was going to pay $400 one date and $400 another date. That was in the first agreement. However my wife and I later discussed that we could really not pay the $400 due to prior financial obligations. I asked the gentlemen if I could pay them $200 increments instead. He said it shouldn't be a problem. We amended the new agreement to the $200 payments. The first payment was supposed to be April 15th and so forth. The only way he said GE would accept this agreement was by credit card. I admit I was naive and should have known better to give out my info over the phone. However being stressed out in the moment makes us not think of these things at the time.

April 1st comes... I check my bank account like I do on a normal basis. What do you know!? Those F'ERS withdrawn $400 from my account without my authorization! It was also breach of the original contract. I was pissed. Anyway... my wife and I ( being the too nice people we are ) gave them the benefit of the doubt and maybe it was a clerical error on their part. I call the guy up and explained that I want that money put back. He swore it would be refunded right away. So a day goes by and I still see nothing and I am getting real pissed off. I reported it to my bank and my bank's fraud department accredited my account for me after I explained what happened to them. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see if my bank actually gets this refund however, everytime I called them there were no records, no traces of any pending refund or credit. Any bank has the means of tracking a pending payment to them. I'm not stupid and at this point I am smelling scam!!!?

My wife kept saying let's see if it comes by the end of the week. Nope, come April 3rd they withdrawn another $400 without my authorization. Needless to say my instincts were right. My wife calls this guy cause she works for an attorney ( injury attorney's ) of course no answer and he never called back either. Today I went to my bank closed my account and opened a new account. This whole thing caused so much chaos and stress. I lost a day of work and $800 was stolen!!! This is a crime and I plan to bring these F'ERS down!!! I am doing something about it for the stress they caused me and my wife along with the harassment. I have everything documented. I even printed out this thread of complaints against them. I am going to the police to file a report tomorrow morning. I plan to call and attorney on Monday that deals with these matters that my bank suggested to do. I have a very strong lawsuit. If anyone would like to jump on board to support this case please email me!!! Haas1994@Gmail.com The more support the merrier. I also plan to report them to the Credit Bureau and FBI. These people are going DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they in any way try to imply that they are a law firm or a lawyer, report them to the California bar association.  I spoke to a nice women there today, that told me they prosecute people for pretending to be lawyers.

They want to try to scam us out of money, but I have no idea how they got my name and information.  The weird thing was that they called me at my house phone, and I never give that number out, it's unlisted, and not even in my name, it's in my roommate's name.  I googled the name of the company, this is their generic website. http://www.cfgroupandassociates.com/index.html  They are located in Anaheim, CA.  They are not licensed to do business in California, I checked with the state, and the city of Anaheim.  The address they give is a post office box.  I called the police where I\they are located, and they said not to talk to them, let the calls go to voicemail.  I'm sorry you had to go through that, but hope this information helps.

I had messages from these people on my home phone and cell phone today from a blocked number.  Someone named Mark Escalera who could barely speak coherently left a message that a "complaint was filed against me" left a 4 digit case number, and said I had 72 hours to call them back.  I'm guessing I get 72 hours because they don't scam on weekends?  I could hear people yelling and other chaos in the background.  I filed complaints with FTC and Attornery General in both California and my state.  I used to be a file clerk at a law office a million years ago, and I will tell you this, they will not call from a blocked number, and they will just go ahead and sue you.  They will not call and play these childish games with people.

Yes, I received the same call. They also called my ex. No firm name, just a case number. Message went as follows: they have a "complaint" filed against me, then gave me the number to call and a case number. That if I didn't respond they would be forced to make a decision without my consent.  Its a scam. Don't call them back.

I received a message from this "company" as well today. They said I needed to contacted their office immediately if I didnt  want any actions taken against me. They call my in-laws number as well which I have never lived there. They also use the wrong last name for me. So I would say this is all BS.

I recieved a phone call from CF Group and Assoc. they told me that they had charges pending against me for a debt that i did not pay. The said that I had 30 min to return their call or pay the balance in full otherwise they would continue with the charges without my consent and approval. They also said that they had tired to serve me papers twice and that I ignored those summons to appear in court. I never returned their call and I made  some other phone calls to the Attorney Generals office in Washington, the FTC ( Federal trade Commission) and also the FBI and the United States Marshall's Office. These people are calling from outside the United States and scamming people out of hard earned money. Don't fall for this stupid ploy to get your money. These people are being now watched and will be prosecuted by the United State federal Government. I hope and pray that anyone else who recieves these phone calls call the same people that I did and take care of this problem. Thanks.
