I work for marketing department for VZW. We notify our customers when they are over on talk, text or data. VZW first send text messages or email and if it is ignored we call out and offer credits for overages if customer agrees to adjust his/her calling plan to fit new usage pattern. Yes, verizon is nice like that. Direct number to our department is 866-887-8234. Just like when you dial* 611 we verify phone number you are calling about , name and password. Rep will also notate every account pulled up so feel free to stop by the store and see for yourself. Little FYI, customer care agents )*611) are not trained to view current usage so if you are over this month but did ok last month they will tell you everything on the acct looks great.

I have had two experiences with the Loyalty Department and have found it wonderfully beneficial.  They could not have been nicer and they resolved a couple of pretty serious issues that I had been told was just tough luck at the local store.  The Loyalty Department took over and it was resolved in minutes.

Does it seem silly that they would call to tell you you're about to go over your minutes. Um, yeah, if I wasn't talking to you on my cell phone maybe I wouldn't be going over my minutes! Gee, thanks for calling me to tell me I'm close to going over my limit.

Received a text message telling me that I was on track to incur charges for minutes, data, or message usage.  Call 888-453-1922.  Since I don't trust random messages I googled the number and found that it is NOT Verizon Wireless which is exactly what I thought.

This IS Verizon Wireless.  I called it and asked why they were calling me.  I got Verizon customer service.  They had detailed and exacting knowledge of my account, knowledge only Verizon and I have.  They were calling to inform that my daughter was racking up data usage charges, so I asked them to block data access from her phone. It was easy.  Nothing to be afraid of, no boggie man here.  I hope this is helpful

ok...i got this call today. I didnt answer because I am on the Text/Data plan where i get unlimited text and data every month, but i have NO phone minutes. (i was also at work and am not able to use my phone during work hours) I have not made a single phone call on my phone since i got this plan...so if this was TRULEY about overages, why would they be calling me if im on an unlimited plan and i just paid my bill IN FULL 2 weeks ago? Plus verizon has ALWAYS sent me FREE text messages to alert me of anything regarding my account...even when i DID have minute on my plan, they still sent me texts, soo..i personally think its a scam, but i dont have the data to back up my claim...sorry guys.

This is absolutely a SCAM!!!.  The first thing they ask is your phone # and SSN.  Now they have access to your account, and they WILL buy phones and have them charged to you.

Talked to the real Verizon security team, they are working to block the number to ALL Verizon subscribers.  This has been an ongoing scam for over a year!

"I went into a panic when I saw all these blogs saying that this is a scam and I called Verizon using the *611.  I was able to speak with a Verizon rep and she was more than concerned when I told her what it happened and what I was reading.  She put me on hold and got her manager to see who and what the caller was.  When she returned she explained that Verizon recently created a new department, "Customer Loyalty Dept."  She explained that their efforts to increase our satisfaction with Verizon, they send out these courteousy calls based on the previous month's trend use."

BU***HIT!!

"This IS Verizon Wireless.  I called it and asked why they were calling me.  I got Verizon customer service.  They had detailed and exacting knowledge of my account, knowledge only Verizon and I have."

BU***HIT AGAIN!

These posts are obviously from the scammers themselves.  As soon as you give them your phone number (why don't THEY have that - no caller ID??) and the last 4 digits of your social security number they can access your account and tell you "all the things you wanna hear."  After you hang up they raid your account information and get your address, credit card info, full name, etc. - then hang on to your a**!

Report all calls from this number directly to the REAL Verizon security department at *611, 1, 0!

so after i made my first post on this page, i got a call from this number again within mins of posting above. I decided to answer and confront them on different points from previous posters that proves that its not verizon. I accidentally hung up while waiting for a rep. So i called the number back from my home phone. The first thing that tipped me off was that there was no hold time waiting for an "agent". Usually when i have to call Verizon, i have a 5 min+ wait time. A lady came on the phone..it sounded like she was picking up a phone with a handset..which is odd because people at verizon are in a CALL CENTER with headsets. She says "thank you for choosing to speak with an agent"...mmm...odd....usually its "thank you for calling verizon wireless". She asked for my cell phone number with the area code. I told her that before i give her that, i want to know why im being told im over on my mins when i have unlimited minutes/text/data. She says "i know we are having issues with our messages going out to all of our customers, even those on unlimited plans." then asked for my number again. I told her that i have another question first..how come i was asked to call this number instead of #611 like im normally asked to, and how come i got a phone call if i asked to be contacted by texts only, specially if this phone call would be the one to put me OVER my mins. She stumbled on her words and finally said "thats a good question." then started to say something and i cut her off and told her that i had been looking at some websites online that were saying that this number was a phishing scam.....dead silence..i told her to never call my number again and hung up. (then someone made a good point...how will they know what number to never call again, if i never gave her the number not to call...ugh!!! Next time...next time..hahaha) so i called #611 from my cell phone and was on the phone for 20 mins with a verizon agent(she was amazing btw). She said this is DEFINATLY not verizon. Do not answer this call. If you do, do NOT give them any information they ask for. If you have any questions regarding your account...call #611 from your phone. She blocked the number from calling my phone...yay!! best of luck to the rest of you.

Called Verizon (611) and they said it came from their loyalty department with special offers. I informed them to not call me anymore. They marked my account as "no solicitations". We'll see if that works.

without checking I called the number and added txt services to my call.  they asked for certain verification info, but had a lot of information about my account.  after the call, I got worried, googled the number (which I should have done first) and saw all this information!

Scared, I called Verizon wireless service directly -- they asked for the same verification info (including last 4 digits of my social) and had notes in my file that basically verified the service I had just added, and identified the rep I spoke to.  She said they have different departments and some are 888 numbers.  I have to conclude it's not a scam.

It is obviously a scam because:

1.  Because a legit company like verizon would not sent out a text saying "UR on track 2 incur..."

2.  It says that I'm on track to incur overage charges.  My account has a 1400 minute balance, and I'm currently at 214, and my bill cycle ends in 3 days.  I'm nowhere near my 1400 minutes limit, so this has to be a scam.

I just got the same txt -- It raised massive alarm flags as it used "txt-speak" such as "UR" instead of "you are" anmd the tone seemed less businesslike than legit txts. I dialed my #Min to see, and I was nowhere near an overage as the txt claimed. It's most likely phishing. these $&@#s are getting clever, I will give 'em that...

Isn't a scam.  I thought it might be myself, but per Verizon's own EMAIL response to me:

"When I call the phone number, 888-453-1922 it a number associated with Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless offers a call-blocking feature that is included with your calling plan called Call and Message Blocking. This feature allows customers to block up to five ten-digit numbers (per wireless number on the account) from calling or messaging them. Call and Message Blocking does not block calls from unknown or restricted numbers or messages sent from an e-mail address. The block will remain active for 90 days. Once it expires you will need to request to have the block reinstated."

If you don't believe it ISN'T a scam, just block the number per above.

This is a scam.  Do not give this number anything.  They did update their message slightly so now it reads, "Free VZW msg.  You are on track to incur overage charges for Minutes, Data or messages.  Acct Owner:  call 888-453-1922 or dial #MIN & #DATA to check usage".

I posted this elsewhere.. this is not a scam. I set up text reminders to remind me when I am getting close to going over on minutes or text. yes I SET THIS UP online on my account and I get a text from them when I get close. check it, you can do it yourself. this reminder is a lot less costly than going over on minutes and text's. I went online and checked, and sure enough, I am low on minutes. I also got a call, but missed it so not sure what it would have said.

i received a call from this number, but didn't answer, and didn't receive a message.  i decided to google to try and find out who called, and ended up here.

afterwards, i checked my account info online.  i am indeed very close to exceeding my minutes.  i'm grateful for the heads up (even if they left no message).

i fully understand feeling things out to make sure it's not someone trying to scam you.  however, i'd recommend NOT jumping to conclusions until you've got all of the information.

This number called my cell, didn't hear phone ringing, but saw it on caller ID, they didn't leave a message, so I googled it and found this is just a scam.  I see Verizon is checking into it, you think a billion dollar company would be getting quicker results.  Today is June 25 2009, yet some of the posts are from 2008, same number calling people apparently, yet nobody getting busted for scams.  Kind of irritating....

I guess I was wrong about this being a scam. I called 611, gave them the caller ID and number, and the person I spoke with said it was legitimate.

I still wasn't 100% sure, so I called the number. The recording sounded scratchy, and the person answered right away. She asked for my telephone account password. I intentionally gave her the wrong number. She immediately said, "No, that's not it, what are the last 4 digits of your SSN?" I then said, "Wait, I think it's...." and gave her the correct number. She instantly said, "Yes, that's the one." She didn't have time to type the number in, and I didn't hear any keypresses, so it must have already been up on her screen.

Then, she gave me detailed call usage information for each line on my account. She gave more account information that isn't even available to me online.

If it had been a phising scam, she would have accepted the first, incorrect, account password and wouldn't have been able to give me the detailed information. If you do get a call from here and have doubts, just give an incorrect password at first. Only Verizon would know that it's wrong.

I just got this text today. At first, I thought, "Great, my son's been wasting minutes again." Then, I thought, "Wait a minute, why would Verizon warn me that I'm going over my minutes? This must be a scam."

Verizon makes a fortune off overages. They WANT you to go over so they can charge you for the extra minutes. I know from experience that Verizon won't warn you. I wound up using my phone for work several months in a row. I rung up hundreds of dollars in overages, and Verizon never warned me.
