The recorded robo-call claims they are calling from "Assurance Wireless". Based on info at www.assurancewireless.com, it appears this is for low-income people to have free minutes available for their (I guess, welfare) phone. I was prompted to press "1" to take care of this, then was told "This is not an Assurance Wireless eligible phone number".  There were no other options to remove my number.  You jerks called me, so you should know before you call that my number is not eligible.  Frickin' idiot losers!

Received a call on my Virgin Mobile phone from this number on 9.29.10 at 8:11 pm.  I didn´t answer.  Not sure who this is.  Could be Hartwell Ventures/Global Crossroad Capital in Las Vegas or California.
Could be Virgin Mobile.

It's a 35 second recorded message giving detailed information on how to Top-Up with Virgin Mobile.

I first complained to Virgin Mobile via email and they said they would put my number on their no call list and that I would not received additional calls.  Later, a received two more calls and again complained via email and a phone call to the "executive customer service".  The "executive customer service" said that they would put my number on their no call list...then the answer to my email claimed that it was not a call from Virgin Mobile, and suggested the national Do Not Call list.  So, conflicting information from Virgin Mobile and apparently the problem is not resolved.

What a concept - actually call back the phone number from a phone that can can't tracked or abused.

Only to find its an informational call from our very own cell phone carrier.  Geez.

(Would prefer they send a no-charge txt msg. instead.)

Thx Rockford.

Cell phone used for 'family only' just rang, then hung up. Didn't answer it and don't know who it was, but I am low on minutes on my Virgin phone. It might have been them. I am not calling back to find out though.
Maybe Virgin now has this number, because I Googled the number and saw this:

All phone #'s for this business are disconnected
Global Crossroads Capital

Just spoke to this firm a year ago and all numbers are disconnected now.

I called the 888-465-2401 number from my land line using *67 to block caller ID just in case and the recording that answered was from Virgin Mobile. Called it again and same answer. Seems this was an innocent call from my cell carrier.

Could be Hartwell Ventures in Las Vegas.  A posting by Global Crossroads Capital on 9.23.10 indicates that all phone numbers for Hartwell were disconnect a year ago.  ???

I'm curious if anyone else with Virgin Mobile with minute2minute plan has recently gotten a message from them that they couldn't do the automatic topup and you'd have to go into the account update and topup?  If it's auto topup, it's only $15 plus tax.  This just happened the 3rd of December and I had to top up $20 plus tax for 3 months & on the 5th those rats topped us up again.  This is the second time this year they couldn't automatically topup, happened in March of this year.  We have too much $ built up to quit them but this is getting annoying. We use the phone for emergency so don't use it much.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

I've had several missed "automatic" updates. VM told me it was broken and they were trying to fix it.

It´s a 35 second recorded message giving detailed information on how to Top-Up with Virgin Mobile.

I complained to Virgin Mobile via email and was told that they would "opt-out" my number from their call list.  Received two more calls...complained again via email, and telephone.  The telephone customer rep said that my number would be removed from their call list; the email reply claimed that it was not a Virgin Mobile number, and suggested the Do Not Call Registry.  So, conflicting info from Virgin Mobile,

Received a call a month ago on my VM phone. After reading about it here, I picked up and got the top-up screen message. Thought that was the end. Wrong They just started calling again 2 days ago. I really can't believe this is actually Virgin. They usually have the decency to leave a message.

Yes!  Yes! Yes!!! This started for me in August 2009.  "Friendly voice" in customer service could not understand my concerns.  It happened again this month.  Finally spoke to someone who solved part of the problem, but not all--at least he got it topped up and I have service for the next 90 days.  Or maybe only 60 days.  Very confusing and disheartening.  I like the service otherwise.

Also have received calls from 8884652401 on my land line - a different number from my cell - AND on my cell. Caller id blocked in each case.
Called back and message began, "Thanks for calling Virgin Mobile," etc as in above notes. Contacted Virgin Mobile support. They have no record of any such message to me. Also said continued use of top up screen is still correct procedure for adding money. Reverse directory gives user as Unipoint Services based in Austin, Tx and not the company shown in Jerry's comment above. Customtollfree.com lists Verizon, Bell South, and Bell Canada as companies using that number, but with different prefixes. Either Virgin Mobile is revising its top up service and support people have not been told or a possibly illegal attempt is being made to scam Virgin Mobile clients.
Be nice if FCC or FTC would get a grip on these people.

the incoming caller ID showed "Toll Free Number" as the caller's name. This is a sure fire sign that this is a criminal organization trying to get your personal identity data or credit card numbers.

I use AT&T landline and have an unlisted number.

It is an automated message from Virgin Mobile telling you that you will no longer be able to top up via your phone. You have to go online or call or have it automatically topped up by your credit card.
