I just got two of these messages. I haven't given my number to anyone, I just got it with my new phone 2 days ago in fact. It's not even a normal cell, it's a Tracfone. I don't HAVE a bill, and I didn't use any minutes on the things. I don't think I have anything to worry about...

ITS CALLED CRAMMING

11.    "Cramming": When monthly charges pop up on your telephone bill for optional services that you never authorized such as voice mail, paging, or club membership, it's called "cramming." You may be asked to return a missed call because it?s 'Your lucky day' and you?ve won a trip to Las Vegas. When the call is made, an automated system is activated and you are unknowingly enrolled in a club or program, and the charge is placed on your phone bill. The crammer might not even need to do anything except simply pick your phone number out of the blue and place charges on your bill through your local telephone company, claiming that you agreed to purchase some services.
Look at your bill closely every month. Charges for optional services should be itemized and show the name of the company providing them and its phone number. If you did not authorize the services, call that number and insist that they be canceled and the charges removed from your bill.

Also, consider putting a third party block on your phone service. It's often free and it does not let any

They took the 9.99 off my bill for one month.....but apparently have been charging me for it since APRIL!!!

This is a racket!    The rep at Verizon told me that you MUST OPT OUT in the beginning in order to not be charged.    I think you should HAVE TO OPT IN, instead.   That only makes sense.   I'm furious!!

Not all providers will cancel it.
Verizon was REFUSING to do it for me.
I had to call the company AND Verizon to finally end it.

I had already had unlimited text messaging from Verizon. So, why would I sign up for unlimited text messaging from a company I had never heard of. Out of nowhere, they started charging me for this. It was $20, a month. I called Verizon and they refused to do anything about it. Very aggravating. After constantly calling, I finally got my money back. Verizon refused to stop it. Claiming that 'they couldn't' and that I had 'signed up for it'. I KNOW it wasn't from some online offer because I don't open any of those ads, nor would I include ANY information. I had to continuously call Verizon & the company calling me to end it. I finally had received a text message saying:

Messaging Unlimited mobile alerts.
You have opted out and will no longer receive messages or charges.
888-634-8193

Up to this day, I still have no idea how this company got my phone number and the right to charge me w/out my authorized permission.

My husband and i just called to inquire about our 12 year old son's phone line. We've been charged since January, a $9.99 "Messaging Unlimited" fee. We were told that in order to have the service, you must go on their website and get a 4-digit code sent to your cell phone, then come back to the website to register. Our son believed the 99689 short codes coming into his text inbox were "free text updates" on the latest news, weather and entertainment happenings. They told us they cancelled the subscription and a refund for their fees for six months will be sent in the mail. We'll see. We did get a new text to my son's phone immediately after that phone call ended.

Also, I checked an old AT&T statement from March billing and my husband's line was charged $10.00 and my line was chared $9.95!!!! We phoned back and were told that our cell phone numbers are not in their system and we will have to speak with AT&T about the charges. AT&T customer service is closed today, but tomorrow is another day! I looked this company up on Sunbiz.org and they are not registered. I found them on BBB, but they are not registered with them either, although the following information was available:

AT&T has a Mobile Purhases and Downloads managing tool on their website www.att.com/mobilepurchases to locate any purchases made by your cell phone. This 99869 text was renewing and charging fees automatically every month!!! This is what I found when I put my son's cell phone number in and had AT&T send a secret code back to his cell phone and put I "that" code back into the AT&T website in order to find what prchases had been made in the last 90 days:

Received two charges for $9.95 and for $9.95 one month; and again the next month. Cinti Bell gave me this number to call, and an automated system removed my phone number from Messaging Unlimiting aka Open Market. I did not receive a refund for my 4 payments. I never gave anyone my cell phone number. This is a scam. I am told that if you play an IQ game on FACE BOOK, in order to obtain your results, you have to type in your cell phone number. This is how Open Market gets your phone number.

The charge is from downloading FREE ringtones to your cell phone.  In the agreement that no one reads, you agree to receive monthly updates about movie stars etc.  For this phony service you pay 9.99 a month.  Do not give your phone number out over the internet.

I got a couple of unsolicted texts from Messaging-Unlimited, 1st one said I would be charged 9.99, the others were updates to soap operas. I called my provider, AT&T, very nice you lady told me to reply stop to the sent message - thus I did and I received a confirmation back from Messaging-Unlimited that the service was stopped/canceled. Furthermore AT&T told me they could block future purchases/charges to my phone by sending me an authorization pin code that would have to be entered inorder to charge my phone. AT&T said my next bill should show a charge for the 9.99 then credit back.

I saw the unsolicited charge and spoke with Verizon who credited the unsolicited $9.99 charge but would not credit the $1.47 tax on the $9.99 charge. The "supervisor" explained that the credit they gave was a "courtesy or favor" for their customers. The tax is not their problem.  Wow.

This company is supposed to send you text allerts at least 5 times a month.  Check out their website.
I called the 888 number after Verizon cancelled with the short code this AM.  I called tonight and talked with 'Cara' and she gave me back my $9.99 through PayPal.  I got caught because I was searching for  something specific on the web.  Never again.

This is a text messaging service.  Did you enter your cell phone number on any popup or website?  Or maybe someone else did with your number.  They automatically bill you for a monthly text messaging service.  Never enter your cell phone number on any website.
