Remember these are the telemarketing centers calling for new customers to sign up, on behalf of lots of companies throughout the country.  The salespeople are not always the nicest people as they often do not work for the company itself.
If you don't want to open an account, then don't answer the questions or say YES at all.

The actual company Primus has helpful customer care folks who will take your number off the list right away if you call the Customer Service centre at 1-800-806-3273, that number is from the website.  It does take about 2 days to be off, but it's better than letting the phone ring and not doing anything about it, right? I've had this company for service and always had top-notch help.

That number called me twice so far today.
I do NOT pick up "OUT OF AREA" calls, so I can't help identify who it is.
If the business doesn't let my Caller ID display a name, I don't want to do business with them.
They did not leave a message, so it was probably a computer dialing, and I don't answer those either.

Go to the CRTC Web site and register a complaint against Primus (1-888-672-2859). I just did.

Let the government sort them out!

This number is Primus Canada!

Since yesterday afternoon, I have received at least 10 or 12 calls from 1-888-672-2859. I back-called the number and a Primus person answered the phone. They said they couldn't remove my number from the Primus calling system sooner than 48 hours. Not only is this unacceptable, an invasion of my privacy—but I'm also at home recovering from a health issue! Until these calls stop—I want the home phone number of a Primus manager—so I can call him or her at home. In the meantime, I hope there's an enforcement agency (CRTC?) that can appropriately deal with Primus. On that note, I'll visit the CRTC Web site to see if this option exists for the general public. Also, do what I did—back-call the number: 1-888-672-2859 and give it right back to Primus. Ask for a manager. Bad form Primus!

I received a call from the above number offering me a long distance savings plan without even knowing what plan I have with my own company.

My question is how do they know they are saving me money if they don't have information on my package?

The Customer Service centre at 1-800-806-3273 needs your existing Primus number or account number before it will do anything. I called their Sales Dept at 1-877-704-4269 and they promised to remove my numbers. We'll see what happens. Everyone who is annoyed by telephone solicitation should contact the media (Consumer Complaints). Maybe some bad press will stop them from this annoying and sometimes costly disturbance. Most importantly, don't buy anything from them. If you do, they will continue to phone you many times every day.

I called Primus at 877 704 4269 and asked them to quit calling.  The rep said she would take my number off their list.

Also, what kind of company offers a service that will block telemarketing calls, but makes these calls themselves?

Finally, I find some of these companies actually have people on the other end if you call them back.  I have a redial button on my phone.  I spent an aftenoon watching TV and hitting redial to the point that I could hear the frustration in their voices when all they got was dead air or the noise of the TV.  When one of them said, "What do you want?" I said, "Nothing.  I just want to drive you as crazy as you have been driving me." Childish, perhaps, but also nice to know it can work both ways.

It's Primus Canada's outbound sales call centre in India (at least for any Canadians who get calls!). A call-back verified it since they answered, in that annoying sing-song Indi-glish with "Primus Canada".

Just to address a comment written here prior to mine: said commemnt MUST have been a plant because the "helpful customer care folks" mentioned have been given my number on numerous occasions and yet Primus's call centre CONTINUES to call, daily, often TWICE daily.

If, as so often happens, they don't actually hang up on you as you answer,  rather than venting to "Indira" or "Ratna" or "Guldeep" or whoever the "bleep" is calling to annoy you (especially since they can do nothing anyway, and they wouldn't want to risk their $12 per week jobs to help YOU even if they could), why not go directly to the source to vent your displeasure at being disturbed in the privacy of your own home by an unsolicited telemarketing call? Especially from a number that more than half the time hangs up on you before you even get to answer?

If you are tired of the hang-ups and Indian accented sales pitches, why not express your displeasure directly by contacting Primus Canada's President and Chief Operating Officer by phone? His names is Ted Chislett. His DIRECT LINE number - although I'm QUITE sure his calls will be screened by some kind of secretarial barrier - is (416) 207-7011. But that's okay too. I'm sure you'll just make the day of such a gatekeeper by relaying in  excruciating detail the nature of your complaint. Eventually I'm sure he will get wind of the gist of what you thought of Primus calling you ;-)

If you are not in the Toronto area, rather than wasting your money by  making a long distance phone call, why not just send him an email with your thoughts on the matter? His email address is as follows:

tchislett@primustel.ca

All his contact information is publicly available on the Internet by the way so it's not like it's some great secret. Neither is the information for -

Rob Warden
Vice President, Residential Marketing
Direct line: 416.207.7064
E-mail: rwarden@primustel.ca

But you're probably better off to start at the top because it's usually only when the head honcho starts to clue in that the company culture will start to evolve. And, after all, the tone for a company's conduct out there in the big world is set at the top ;-) Or, to put it another way, you talk to Ted and let Ted talk to Rob about how desirable outbound cold-calling to residential prospects truly is. Especially given the weird and oddly high caller-hangs-up-before-a-word-is-said rate of their calls. They must be wasting quite a bit of their heavy investment in wages (ha! in India!) with all those hang-ups. Whatsamatta? Staff over in Hyderabad too shy to talk to customers all of a sudden?

It's quite ironic, isn't it, that Primus Canada is advertising a telemarketing blocking service as a part of their feature set, when they themselves are a TERRIBLE offender in this regard? Bet ya dollars to doughnuts that even if you subscribe to their service that it still won't block out their own telemarketing efforts ;-)

One has to ask one's self how truly stupid and insulated from reality the executives of these types of companies truly are. Do Ted and others of his ilk REALLY have no faint clue as to how much hostility and resentment they engender among the hoi polloi plebes out in the general public by using these sorts of invasive and unwelcome marketing tactics?

ESPECIALLY when the telemarketing campaign and/or hardware is so incompetent that it hangs up before they even get to make their pitch? Talk about just plain retarded. Strictly speaking telemarketing may be just this side of legal (and quickly going the way of the do-do if we consumers keep up our opposition to being hounded in our own homes and having our money, time and telephone access wasted by companies that have no respect for our privacy or our time), but telemarketing is hardly an effective tool to build goodwill toward the Primus brand or to attract and retain a loyal customer base.

Perhaps some day the esteemed Mr. Chislett will come across these comments and reconsider the company's residential marketing strategy. Or perhaps some day his residential telephone number (which could well be publicly available on the Internet too - who knows?! HE must reside SOMEWHERE in Southern Ontario in order to get to the office on weekdays, no?) will receive enough idiotic telemarketing calls to disturb his peace and privacy at home that he and his associates will understand at last the simplicity of the age old "Golden Rule" ;-)

Just got a call from Primus. I asked if he would take my name off his list. He said he didn't have no list. Also he said, What list?. He said he was calling about my telephone. I asked twice who was calling as I had a hard time understanding his accent and didn't recognize the company name. I said I have no business with Primus. He said he didn't understand. I said I am not a customer. In Canada it is law that you have to take my name off your calling list. I am asking you to not call me anymore. He hung up. I didn't feel that was very polite. I don't have 'call display', so I pretty much have to answer the phone if I want to know who is calling. One good thing, it was nice to actually speak to someone rather than the dead air I usually get. Please help put a stop to telemarketers with automatic dialers!!!

I work nights...so every day they call me. when I pick up the phone there is no one there, then some guy comes on with a strong foreign accent that doesn't understand english very well, and tries to bug me about my phone service. Is it possible that I can have HIS home number so I can call him at 4 am to talk to him about stuff? nothing in particular really, just stuff I'm sure he wouldn't be interested in...and if he says that he's not interested can I call him the next day and ask him again? and again?
I do not understand why a company resorts to telemarketers. It's a sure fire way to LOSE business. nothing says RUN faster than bothering your clients.

Someone has called from this number several times over the past few days.  It isn't actually Primus, but a telemarketing company called F.I.S.  The man who called claimed to be calling from my current phone company and tried to sell me on Primus long distance.  I told him I wasn't interested.  The next day, the same person called again with the same pitch.  When I told him that he had just called the day before, he yelled "I didn't call you!" and hung up on me.  I dialed the number back immediately and asked to speak to his supervisor.  He asked me to hold and then disconnected me.

I answered at first and they asked for Mrs. _____ and I hung up.  They called again, I answered to see what they would say. They asked why I hung up and then I just covered up the receiver and they kept asking why I hung up.  Then they called again about 4 times and i didn't answer.
