Hi I have recently received a couple of messages from this "Janell" person threatening to serve me with papers to my home and or work.  Then calls back another day to say I didn't come to the door so she's not sure she has the right address.  Really? Who officially serves papers to someone and not have valid legal documentation and a verified address?  I also had some last month call me about a debt his name was Mr. Walker.  I looked the number he called from and it was similar to what I am seeing on this site.  No documentation in writing no money period!  The number she called me from was 1-888-736-0267.

} Do they get a commission on everyone that they scam?

Quite possibly. Much like in a sales office, commissions and bonuses are common incentives. Competition inspires FDCPA violations. Management may well be teaching the bully tactics. The workplace culture supports the position that alleged debtors deserve abuse and laws which protect them are unfair impediments to a necessary duty.

yes they must laugh all the way to the bank. The police chief my wife talked to said they use all kinds of scare tactics to get you to give them your money. you need to read all these post they are something else. you can have your numbers blocked like the police chief told my wife.if she said she was coming and never showed up that is just crazy why would she have to verify your address if she said she was coming.there is another number I am not sure if it is in this post with this number1-855-543-4300 they are the same people type that number in and read what they have to say. good luck keep me posted.

She just called and left a message again, saying since you didn't answer so I could verify your address I will be showing up at your work tomorrow morning and your manager will have to witness.  Since you didn't pick up the phone this will be held against you.  How do these people sleep at night doing this every day!! Do they get a commission on everyone that they scam?? The scare tactics are ridiculous, but unfortunately it works with some people and they laugh all the way to the bank!

} I doubt [debt collection laws] apply in my situation because I'm not actually a debtor to these people

On the contrary! The FDCPA was written to protect both people who genuinely owe something and also those *alleged* to owe. It's very naughty for an agency to make a false claim or misrepresent the "character, amount, or legal status" of a debt, a violation which is a routine part of the sick game of these PDL thugs.

My wife got a call from a number on Friday telling her to call this number 1-855-534-4300 from mariner group looked it up could not find nothing, and checked bbb could not find nothing, was reading it was a scam, they gave a case number. Than today we get a call and it comes across private name private number and it is some  guy Mike Lewis calling and saying he is a private carrier and he was going to serve papers, it required a valid Id and signature. He stated if she was not working he would look it up. We were scam a year ago at this time by some Indian man claiming to have my wife put in jail if she did not pay $500.00 she did only to find out it was in fact a scam. so now we are very cautious with our hard earned money. just wondering if any of you have in fact had papers served this is getting annoying this people need to get a life.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Just a few minutes ago, I got this call on my cell phone. The call was blocked/withheld, but the lady Janelle did leave me a voice message.  The same exact message I've read about through here.
I'm reporting immediately to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (855) 411-2372 consumerfinance.gov........that's where I've been reporting these bogus things.  You all have to report it, so it can be investigated, and hopefully it can Stop altogether.

Mike Lewis keeps calling my cell and work saying he's coming to my home to serve these papers. He claims to be some private carrier out of Taloopsy, (where?) and he says that this paperwork requires a valid form of ID and a signature. He also claims that if he comes to my job he will need my boss to sign as a witness. He says that I need to call the filing party at: 888-736-0267.

Got a call from Mike Lewis today. He left a message saying that he had documents for me that needed an id and signature and he was from my area. He also said he would go to my work and get my manager or boss or as he put it "whoever it didnt really matter" to sign as a witness. He said he didnt even know if i work because he never confirmed that with the labor board. Needless to say after reading all this i am not calling 18887360267. Sounds like a scam to me.

Hmmmm, you've got the wheels in my head turning now about this payday loan thing. I now have to wonder.

About a year ago I had a $500 deposit, from a company I'd never heard of show up in my bank account, spoke with the bank manager as I had thought it was a bank error, that's when she informed me that it was from a company who they had a previous customer experience with that had deposited $500 in their account also, this customer spent it (not very moral if you ask me), but about 2 weeks later if I recall what the manager told me the customer's account was debited close to or over $700. Of course the bank and the customer tried to figure it out and the bank manager had been told this customer had taken out a payday loan and that was the repayment terms the customer had agreed to.

At that moment the bank manager and I Googled the name that it was deposited under on my account to find contact information and sure enough it was some payday loan company, I DID NOT DO A PAYDAY LOAN. She as the bank manager called whoever it was in her corporate offices and was told how to reverse the deposit, she did so immediately and we closed out the account and opened a new one. In fact I think I even had to wait a day or 2 to go back and close it out, something about funds needed to be accepted by the other bank again, or some weird bank technicalities. Either way we closed it out and never thought about it again. BUT now I am wondering if this is those people trying to collect on something that they already got back. Thank GOD I keep good records and have all that stuff from back then (finding it might be tricky since I've recently moved).

Unfortunately Mr. Mike Lewis didn't call me today like I had hoped he would again so I could play some fun word games with him :-/ darn. Maybe he'll call tomorrow now that I've had even more time to look up Fair Debt Collection Practices Act rules and regulations. I doubt they apply in my situation because I'm not actually a debtor to these people, but it'll still be fun to turn him upside down and show him he has the wrong person if he's going to try to play games and get money from me!

Some woman named Janelle indicating she's a private courier for Nationwide Courier to deliver sealed documents requiring 2 forms of ID.  She's going to deliver them to my home tomorrow and if I can't be reached she's going to deliver them to my job the next day and my manager has to be present to sign. If I want to try to get a stop order I can call 1-888-736-027.  Before her there was a guy named Brian Web leaving the same sort of message.  I believe this is reference to an internet payday loan from 2011 where I kept paying the interest like 4 times until my bank manager told me they were illegal in NC.  I had to close my bank account.  I told the company I would pay the principal if they sent that to me in writing but I had already paid over 1000% in interest. They refused to put anything in writing instead continued to call wanting to know when was I going to pay this astronomical ammount and of course they want a credit card or a bank account # so they can draft at will.  I told them let's settle in court because I know they're illegal in my state and they can only be granted a certain ammount of interest but they never want to agree to this.
