I just received a call from a man claiming to be a Yellow pages Rep. he said that he wanted to verify my companys cancellation for yellow pages add. I told the man I didn't know what he was talking about, but he wouldn't stop talking ...he kept saying mu boss authorized it and all he needed to do is give me an comfirmation number. When I asked for the name of my boss he got upset' and kept repeating that all he wanted to was give me a comfirmation number but this time he wanted me to talk to someone else and tell them I was authorized to cancel on my companys behalf...I hung up on him and 2 mins later he called back and said that they would be sending cancelation package and a invoice fo $499.00 ...WTF!!!  Is this..I tracked number back to New York

Just got one of these today...

A man (with a thick Indian accent that I couldn't understand) called me and asked for the person in charge and I said thats me. He then told me he had received my request to cancel my yellowpages online ad (which I did over 3 months ago) he asked to verify my address which he read to me and it was correct and then said he would give me a confirmation # it would be canceled and he would send me a bill for $475.00... This is where I blew-up. I said that the account should never have been opened that a third party opened it and that if they wanted to get paid they need to contact that third party. He started to repeat himself about sending the bill and was really getting hard to understand so I said...No offense but I can't understand a word your saying to me me can I speak to someone else? He tranfered me to a girl with the exact same indian accent and she basically told me the same thing. Now I'm screaming... She transfers me back to the first guy... Oh now I'm PISSED... He says mam I understand your anger... listen mister you DON"T understand s*^t... he says don't yell at me I'm just doing my job so I will re-new your subscription and send you a bill. I finally yell at him... No you are going to cancel and you are not billing me S*^T and you will be hearing grom my lawyer! to which he says fine i'm canceling and am not billing you and hangs up...

If I get a bill now they can stick it you know where! Wish I read this sooner, would have caused me a lot less stress today.

We received a fax from RYP in October 2010 stating our account was over due and that they were taking us to collections. I called the company and was transferred to someone who was exceedingly rude and refused to give me any information. (In fact, she called me an a-hole and hung up on me.) Several calls were made and I received two faxes in response to the phone calls. The first one informed me that "THIS IS NOT, NOR IS IT INTENDED TO BE A THREAT!" The second one was much more entertaining: "Customer Service spoke with [former manager]. He will be sending out cheque next week. Do What You May With This Info.. The recording will stand up in court."

I filed complaints with the Attorney General of New Hampshire, the Upstate New York BBB, and the FTC. Surprisingly, the state of NH never received a response...

Amazingly enough, these morons tried to pull the same scam today.

I double-dog dare them to send me to collections this time. I have plenty of back up showing that this is a scam. That should stand up in court.

These posts are all from 2009 but thought I'd post this as they must be at it again.....  I just got a call from 1-866-785-4236.  It was a lady saying she was calling to verify the cancellation request of our online yellow page ad that we requested 1 month ago.  She said she needed to give me a "special cancellation confirmation number".  When I asked what company she was from she said "Regional Online Yellow Pages".  When I told her we never had an ad with them in the first place so how could we have requested a cancellation, she very sarcastically said, "Well why else do you think I'd be calling you- to tell you to have a nice day?" and hung up.  I tried calling back to tell her where to shove it but got "were sorry, your call could not be completed as dialed".

Regional Yellow Pages Online - Script

May I speak with the Office Manager please. . .

Hi, my name is - -. I am calling with the Regional Yellow Pages. I am calling regarding your request that you made about three months ago, that you want to remove your listings from our database and cancel all your future listings. Is that correct?

YES/NO

Yes = Closer. No = Opener

An opener means you do not want to cancel and will be charged the $479.95. This rarely happens so it will be mostly a Closer.

Closer

Alright - What I will do today is that l will close your account and provide you with a cancellation file # and also, we will send you a Letter of Closure stating that the account is permanently closed with us, which means that we will not be contacting you for any renewals or updates, and we will also put it on our do-not- call, do-not-renew list, OK.

Since the listings were started in - - they will expire in - - and will be purged from our database.

You will also receive the balance of the invoice, which is $ 479.95 and the invoice will be marked FINAL on it.

Do you use purchase order numbers down there or should we just mail this invoice to your attention?

Alright, and the address we have on file is - - OK and your name is- - ? And position - - . Are you authorized to approve and accept this Final Invoice for your Company? (Must be Yes)

OK someone from my Quality Control Department will give you a call later on today and will confirm the mailing address and provide you with your file number.
Anything else I can do for you today?

Thanks for your time and business, and have a great day.

Recieved a call from this co who said that our subscription was expireing and wanted to renew it.  I told them I never advertised with them.  I only advertise with one co.  They said it had been authrorized by my husband.  Not knowing if he did or did'nt I told them to cancell.  They wanted to send a final bill of 479.00.  She then recorded the cancellation which was turned around to sound like I authorized the add.  When we recieved a call from a collector for the co today he then said that I authorized the add and played the taped conversation back to us.  He then immediately asked for the payment by credit card with a 10% discount for paying with the card.  We were so close to paying because it sounded like I had authorized it.  My husband decided that he would not pay by cc and we would send the payment in.  I decided then that they had rigged the call with the recording and decided to check into any complaints.  Wow!!!
I am so glad I did and want to thank everyone who has posted concerning this co.  Also the BBB for writing about them.  Glad to be a member!

My husband started a business a long time ago and closed it down 4 years ago.  When I received this call, I was furious cause they shouldn't have information on me anymore.  I told them that it was my husband's company it is shut down and they were like well we can't close the account unless the founder approves so I was like "fine I'm the cofounder."  So the proceeded to transfer me to quality control saying the phone call is going to be recorded.  The lady said that there is a balance for $479 that we never paid and I said why didn't we get the bill.  She said they sent it and then she said "well if you give us a credit card over the phone you'll get 10% off the bill."  I told her I didn't have a credit card around and that I would much rather get the bill. So they gave me a confirmation number and told me that they will attention the bill to me with payment due at the end of the month.  I never received anything so I called the number back and it was disconnected.  I'm so glad I didn't give any information or credit card number to this company!  So beware of this call!!!

A caller identifying himself as rep from Yellowpages.com just threatened to send me to a collection agency unless I complied with his demand which were A) transfer me up to a higher power in the QC department who would issue a special number to get me off the hook for an ad which I was to pay $498.00 immediately.  I told him that I have no such contract, but he told me I agreed to a contract via phone 2 months ago & that I actually owed for 2007 & 2008 also.  I told him if he would hold on I would transfer the call to my attorney - he HUNG UP on me.   Don't be scammed by this guy.

I just had a man HANG UP the phone on me after I threatened to transfer his call to my attorney.  He identified himself as a Yellowpages.com Rep and told me he had data that I requested to cancel my ad from 2008 with Yellowpages.com.  I told him I didn't have an ad and he quickly declared that I did, he had my approval on tape and unless I allowed him to transfer me over to the QC department who would then issue a special Cancellation number - I would be turned over to a collection service for $498.00. He told me I would receive an invoice of which I had better pay.  I told him it would be trashed - not to bother. My business phone automatically records who calls in - I tried calling him back immediately but no dial tone on his end.  BE CAREFUL!

This is a SCAM!

The company is not even a legitimate company. There's even a writeup on the Better Business Bureau on them:

REGIONAL YELLOW PAGES ONLINE at 888-815-6244
Deceiving Businesses into Saying ?YES?

It was brought to BBB?s attention that a questionable Yellow Pages business pitch is targeting our region whereby a rep contacts a business wishing to confirm the company?s cancellation regarding their service listing.

What?s tricky about this? Based on reports posted online as well as reports to the BBB, what these calls are attempting to do is get businesses recorded as saying ?Yes? to their questions so they may turn around and hold it on you that you have instead confirmed or said ?Yes? to their offer.

Regional Scenario
A MT business contacted BBB saying that she received a call from a person identifying themselves as The Regional Yellow Pages Online 888-815-6244. They told her that her business? subscription was cancelled or near expiring and he would be sending out a final bill with a cancellation number that could be used for discounts in the future if she wanted to do business with them again.

The MT business said they were a very small company. The rep stated that her CEO had signed up for the service 2 years ago. The MT business continued to inquire what address they had on record. The address the rep had was an address the business had not been at for over 4 years.

As the MT business began asking more questions, the rep merely hung up on her. The MT biz believes this is highly deceptive activity and that all that this group is interested in is sending an unauthorized bill in hopes the business will not question it and just pay.

Here are some posts concerning this 888#: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-888-815-6244

BBB ADVICE
Business owners, remind your employees who could respond to such calls to make sure that they understand the wishes of the business owner concerning renewal of any online listing. If you have an unresolved issue concerning an unauthorized invoice, file a formal complaint at: www.bbb.org as well as with your state Attorney General?s Office and FTC at: www.ftc.gov If the invoice was unauthorized, dispute it. You are under no obligation to pay it.

Just had a lady (said she was our rep) call me about our yellowpages online suscription ending and sending us a cancellation notice. We currently are listed under yellowpages for free but sometimes my boss list us premium without my knowledge, so I told her okay...and she sent me to this other rep who was going to record the conversation. She asked me if I was authorized and if I understood that they are different from other AT&T yellowpages...and I got confuse and realized this must be scam. So told her that I needed my boss's authorization first and if I can call back, and the person transferred me to "our rep". While they had me on hold/transfer, I quickly googled their name and found an article about a company calling themself the Regional Yellow Pages Online who is calling scams and trying to invoice companies for services they never had with the company. When I talked to the rep, she got mad when I started asking questions and wanting their number to callback. She said that she can't do that and will have to schedule a callback time and if she can talk to my boss who is authorize to make decisions. I told her if she calls back, it'll be me she'll be talking to not my boss. I BLANTLY ASKED IF THIS WAS A SCAM. And she point blank told me NO, saying that my boss has been doing business with them for two years...my boss just recently listed us under yellowpages when I started working for the business one year ago. (plus, they didn't even know my boss's name which is fishy if she's been doing business with them). The rep got so mad, she told me that, "I'm going to send your file to collections".  MY BOSS IS NOT HAVING A GOOD DAY TODAY, AND THIS WAS JUST THE ICING ON THE CAKE. IF THEY CALL BACK AGAIN, SHE'S GOING TO HAVE A BI*** FIT.

This is a complete scam. They told me I owed $475 from my last year of advertising with them. I own two companies and I asked for what company. They said "x company" and I went on to let them know the company started less than 2 months ago so that is impossible. They immediately hung up.
