Telemarketer
I've been getting this call multiple times daily for years: Recording says I'm eligible to lower my electric bill. If I'd like more information, push 5. Today, I finally pushed 5,  and a live person abruptly asked me to verify my discount eligibility by giving her my current electric company account information. I, in turn, asked for the name of her company. After a long pause, she blurted something unintelligible, so I asked her to repeat it a couple of times until I was able to make out the words "Live Voice." I asked for the company address and phone number...and she hung up. Googling "Live Voice" led me to another company, which seems to be a call center hired by assorted firms to do their telemarketing. The least stressful way to deflect this irritating phone call is to hang up as soon as you hear the recording.

When Live Voice repeatedly calls every day even after I said informed their agent I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST. It is harassment not sales.

You speak for your own experience, many of these so called "telemarkers" are scam artists and have caused people to receive bills that are outragesly high.  In addition, they are supposed to offer their services by introducing themselves and what company they represent.  Otherwise, you are on for a ride.  First of all, they should respect your request ---that you are not interested!!!!Simple as that!

I have no idea. It leaves a message about an "Important message for Lisa Simpson. If this is Lisa Simpson press 1 now, if not press 2." Calls us like 2-3 times everyday. I can't get the call screening feature to work on 888 numbers! ARGH!

888-834-1415 called at 11:37 AM 2/24/10.  I answered, but there was no-one on the line.  I held, but it hung up.  I believe it's the same number I reported to the FTC, when it was a live voice saying I'd received a letter with my electric bill.  I asked what company she represented but she was yelling a script over my question.  I interrupted again, and she hung up, without revealing her company name.

My electric company never calls me.  My bills are on automatic payment.  [In fact, I retired from that company.]

It's NOT a SCAM, If you live in a De-regulated State for Electric, call your Electric Company and ask about choosing a supplier to get a LOWER electric bill... It's REAL... learn what you are talking about before you post.

IF, and I say IF, the people above would take the time out of their so called "busy" lives and call their Electric Company, if they live in a de-Regulated state, YOU would learn you have the right to get a LOWER electric bill by choosing a supplier. Regardless if you are 17 or not, you "live" with someone who pays an Electric Bill, unless it is included in your Rent, than yeah you would not qualify BUT your Landlord would, bottomline, anyone who pays an Electric Bill in a de-regulated state SHOULD call your Electric Company to find out more before getting "ANGRY", and "UPSET", learn what you are talking about before you spatter off at the keyboard. Have a GREAT day.... "Setting the Record straight".

OH by the way.... It doesn't cost ANYTHING to choose a Supplier for YOU to get a lower electric bill, so where's the problem? It's YOUR Electric Bill that you HAVE to pay...   LOL

I hate receiving telemarketing calls as much as the next person...BUT this is not a scam.  I checked it out with PPL (my local electric company) and the FTC.  Verde is legit.  You might want to educate yourself on electric deregulation.  This can save you a lot of money!  Just research it.  They had no problem with me calling them back after I did so.

Saving money call.  Associated with 203-340-4826 and 203-849-6095.
I suggest, that when we get these calls, we call back by using *67 first and then their number.  They will not be able to ID your number, by doing it that way.
Call back repeatedly and wait each time for a person to get on the phone.  WASTE THEIR TIME!  Be polite, because the person on the phone isn't the bad guy, they're just trying to earn money.  Explain that you are on the do not call list, but that doesn't stop the calls.  Do it as many times as you care to, knowing that each call costs them money!.

You may feel the need to justify your life and decisions as a telemarketer, however the rest of the world doesn’t enjoy getting calls hourly that either result in being hung up on by the computer dialing system or having someone on the other end read a sales script.   The constant bombardments of pitches for products or services people really don’t want.  Regardless of the message or “savings” or great deal you may be offering usually these types of dialing practices are annoying!   Not to mention the sales scripts used are usually written in a way to trick, miss-lead or scare the recipients.   Mostly preying on the un-educated and elderly!   Shame on you regardless of your offer, stop wasting our time.

Clearly you are missing the point.  They may be a valid company, but are violating the do not call registry over and over, and use high pressure tactics and are very rude.  A reputable company wouldn't employ these tactics, and while they may be able to offer what they are saying they can, their tactics are unacceptable.

I think that people are bothered because it is a telemarketer calling and they were quite pushy and rude.  I tried to gather info from the guy and he was very reluctant to give the info out and kept asking me for my account number for my electric company.  When I told him I wanted his phone number so I could call him back at a better time, he was clearly disgusted with me and reluctantly gave it to me.  Bottom line, they may or may not be a legitimate electric generation company in CT, but use high pressure tactics to get your information and violate the do not call registry's rules about calling people on the list.  I have no contract with them, and did not solicit information from them.  By calling me, the violated the rules of conduct.  Coupled with how rude the guy was when i didn't give him my account number and had the GALL to ask questions of him, I wouldn't do business with them for any reason.

The company is Verdi Energy.  However, they aren't listed in CL&P's list of viable generators.

I should not be receiving calls from telemarketers since I am on the do not call list. Of course, they call anyway. These telemarketers call from  888-341-1415  daily trying to get me to sign up for their program. They are not the only companies with products to offer me but I don't want any of them calling me at home. This particular company is "verde energy" located in Norwalk CT. They are very rude and ignorant and quite unconcerned with small details like the CT and federal do not call list.

They  do not respond to requests to stop calling. "Verde Energy" - don't do business with them.

So, I also received a call from this number, they stated they where from the US department of Energy and Procurement.  I called the number back, it is not a gov agency, but verde energy USA.  So it would appear to be a scam of sorts.  How long before they start the slamming practices used with LD phone?

Verde Energy USA is a perfectly legit company and does indeed lower the rate for the supply charge on your electric bill.  While you might disagree with their telemarketing practices for obvious reasons, they do live up to their word by sending out the $50 rebate on time and lowering the supply charge portion of my bill.

None of us likes to be called by someone we do not know during our busy day, but this program is a legitimate offer by a state licensed and authorized supplier to reduce your electric bill.  Sometimes your utility company inserts the information into the envelope with the bill, and sometimes it is printed right on your bill ! (Yes, this savings is made possible BY your electric company and overseen by the Public Utility Commission in your state!)  You can choose NOT to enroll into this FREE program, but that is a choice that will keep you paying your incredibly high supply rate. Look at your "price to compare" on your bill .. what are you paying for your "Basic Generation" (your rate per KWH or KiloWatt Hour)? They are calling to let you know you could be paying a lot less!  You still get the SAME SERVICE from your Utility Co and you still get the SAME BILL from your Utility Co.!  We, (the agents assigned to call you to help educate you about this) are calling to help YOU save money. If you live in a deregulated state - do some research first about what is often called the "Energy Choice" program - answer the phone next time - ask questions - and you may save yourself hundreds of dollars on your yearly electric costs !

Received a call from this number in Branford, CT today (4/21/10) . Reported to the FTC.  I have previously reported toll free hassling calls to the FTC.  A month later they sent letters thanking me but stating that there was not a sufficient pattern to pursue the issue. If they Googled the numbers they might find otherwise. The Atty.Gen. in CT needs complaints in writing. Keep a log of calls if you can't stop them.
If you have AT&T, check your bill; you might already have call blocking and not realize it.  *60 activates, *80 de-activates up to to 6 numbers.  It was the only thing that worked with the other numbers, none of which were legit, needless to say.  Good luck.

There are a number of companies in CT you can buy your power from, other than CL&P or UI. However, if people are registered with 'do-not-call' it should mean just that. DO NOT CALL, not call me to hassle me about making changes to my power to save me 10% over what I'm paying now. Telemarketer for this company then asked who I was with, shouldn't they know this - if they're telling me they could save me 10%? There are a number of questions to ask these companies, please do your reasearch - check out the Department of Public Utilities site in your state. Practice good information protection for yourself, do not give out information about yourself, address, account numbers to people on '8XX' type numbers you did not contact in the first place. Number that has called me multiple times 888-834-1415 - no matter how many times I've requested to be removed from their list. Complaint has been filed.

In East Lyme - have also been getting these calls from Verde energy. Next time, I will whistle loudly into the telephone and perhaps utter some unflattering phrases.
