I've received a call from 888-841-0021. An automated system left a message on my voice mail saying if I did not respond to there automated system I was admitting to the debt and left a reference #. What a bunch of crap!

These bogus collection calls are an endemic problem, according to the National Consumer Law Center, who is appealing to the FTC for a complete overhaul of current FDCPA laws:

I have been bothered to NO end for the last four months by multiple bottom feeders (like Calvary Portfolio), who are looking for people I have never heard of. The calls have been increasing in frequency over the past few weeks to the point where I could not take it anymore, and finally had my phone number changed to an unlisted number. I know that it is just a matter of time before they start calling this number, too...but at least I will have some peace and quiet in the meantime.

Bottom line is, we should NOT have to put up with an industry whose abuses has become OUT OF CONTROL and laughs up its sleeves at the FDCPA, as they rip innocent consumers off for BILLIONS of dollars that many do not even owe.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

I called these ppl back a few months ago and found it was Calvary Portfolio, Collection Agency.  The guy told me I had a Sprint bill for several hundred dollars.. I told him I didn't, I was current & that I would contact Sprint directly.  He got very rude and when I told him to not call back, he told me he would keep calling.  I explained that I was getting on the express-way and had to get off the phone and he started yelling at me.  I hung up.
I rec'd calls daily for about a month, then twice daily.  They finally stopped.  I found this on my credit report and disputed it and now am getting calls again.

same thing with me.  Left a message on my voice mail telling me that since i haven't hung up, i am admitting that i owe this debt!  What debt?!  i owe no one.  I haven't received any mail as of yet.

I received a message on my answering machine telling me that I was past due on an account.  I called the number back and spoke to a real person.  The first thing she wanted to was verify my social security number.  I have investigated fraud crimes for a number of years, one of the paramount things that you should never do is give your SSAN to anyone, especially if they have your name........this is a fraud company and should be investigated by the US Secret Service which is charged with identifty theft investigations.

I too have been being harassed by these clowns.  They have been calling and leaving messages everyday.  I asked them to stop and they still persist.  I obtained my free credit reports from www.annualcreditreport.com and there is nothing unusual.  I was relieved to see that no one had stolen my identity or something like that. Why are these people allowed to use such tactics to harass people.

I don't know who these people are but they have been harraising my mother.  the more she tells them that the people they are trying to contact do not live there the more they call.  something rally need's to be done to get them to stop.

A voice message was left on my answering machine with instructions to call 888-841-0021. Repeated computerized message twice, gave reference number, said this was a collection call and named a person (not me!) and said if I did not hang up that I was admitting to the debt. The the message repeated again. Prior to this message, I received hang up calls for the past 10 days on answering machine.

We've been contacted multiple times by this company.  They have left messages for a person we do not know.  My husband answered one day and let them know that they had the wrong number.  They continue to call.  Now the computerized message says that if you do not hang up on the message that it is an admission of this being the right number.  I found another site that said these people were bad news and didn't care who they harrassed- wrong person or no.  We have never received anything in the mail, however I have read that if they have your number then they automatically have your address.
