This company is a fraud. They seek to collect small debts claiming they were accrued through a payday loan which, according to them, is a non-dischargable debt even through bankruptcy. That is simply not true. You should be very wary of their threats to sue you. Don't offer to send them any money without consulting an attorney first.

Someone from this number called saying that I wrote a bad check and the marshalls were coming for me and gave a case number. When I called the number the machine says "Capitol" like the other e-mails that are here. They left a message with my aunt and somehow got to my mom ex-boyfriend saying that I owe $900.00, this is a scam, when we the FTC make any laws to stop[ this and go after these people.

The same company called my friend and my son today. They actually said they were "looking for me and would find me one way or the other" in a rather threatening tone of voice. They even told my son and friend that this was about a bad check charge and they were FROM the court. My son was scared for me and called me right away.
I called them immediately, feeling pretty scared myself, even though I knew there were no "bad checks" floating around. All the while they were talking, I could hear multiple other voices rattling off stuff as well on their little headsets, like in a big telemarketing room. I told them "I need something in writing that proves I owe anything and that you are licensed agents to collect for this company I have never heard of." They said once I told them I would settle out of court with them and gave them my payment information, they would give it to me. I asked them what bank the check had been written on - they said when I gave them my payment information they would tell me about it. I probably asked them five different ways to give me some kind of information that would identify that I was the person they were looking for. They could give me nothing.
In the state of Colorado, the collection laws state that any "legal" agency leaving messages on a phone must NOT state the nature of their business, just give info so the person can call them back. That law was broken 2 times this morning alone. They also tried to pass their "case number" off as a Court Summons number. Also illegal - as no collection agency is supposed to try to pass themselves off as a court official. This guy, and the other two guys that got on the phone with me each time I said I would NOT give them my information, just kept trying to get my payment info. FAT CHANCE!
This is getting more and more prevalent; I have probably had at least 4 other calls of this nature. I just tell them all to go ahead and take me to court and see how far THAT gets them. Such scumbags!

Same exact thing. Capitol and Associates. Sister-in-law called them back and they wanted to settle out of court for 200+ bucks for a bad check and fraud.

They called on a summons to court on bad checks and included a "State case number" on a family member. Yet from a Private caller ID. Called them back said it was the company "Capitol and Associates". Asked them a lot of questions and all they wanted was payment information to settle out of court yet offered no legitimate information back. SCAM.
