If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

You can also block any repeated calls from the fake collectors.  See
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/
(That site also has a link to Amazon's phone blocker devices and apps, as well as a page showing various government sites that accept complaints or warn about scams.)

Debt Collector
888-877-1001 **New affiliated name under CMS**
I have been keeping track of these "collection agencies," "mediator agencies," and "law firms" that have started calling on debts I no longer owe. This particular number has called my sister before back on November 21,2013. They had harrassed me, my sister and had spoken vulgar language at us. I has asked them to send me proof (send me documentation via U.S. Postal Service) and they refused. In fact, a previous post from me is on the site you can identify with the name "Not Dumb."

The same number (these same people) had called my sister today (Jan. 9, 2014). A man had asked if she forgot to her meds today, and a woman had accused her of being drunk "you drunk, you drunk!"

People, I keep tabs on these types of calls and update you all on sites like these so you are not fooled. I had been contacted by legitimate collection agencies before - they sent PAPER STATEMENTS to me personally. Never had they called me and never had they called my family. The point being is that real companies provide paper documentation BEFORE you ever set up payment plans. Please don't be fooled and don't let them jostle, bully, or scare you into paying them.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. The people calling you are unscrupulous, illegally operating losers who aren't going to do anything other than try to annoy you to death with silly threats that they do not have the ability to carry out. Think about it, if they were a legitimate and reputable debt collection company, you would have received numerous payment requests on paper by way of regular mail followed up with legitimate and reasoned phone calls and you would know exactly which debt the caller is referring to. It's also more than likely that the outstanding debt will be reported to your credit report because "reputable" debt collection companies have access to such resources (you should check your credit report and see if the alleged debt the caller is bothering you about is actually reported). And, if you requested it, again, they would send you more documentation in the mail if you wanted it for further review. --If you continued to not pay debt to a legitimate debt collection company, they wouldn't carry on and on with dumb phone calls threatening you with arrest, prosecution, "legal action" and the rest. If the debt in question was worth it to them, they would simply hire a law firm in the state or county that you live in and the law firm would then follow up and bring a lawsuit against you in your jurisdiction after all other collection efforts have failed. You would just simply get served lawsuit papers one day without all of the other fuss and intimidation tactics that the scammers like to do over the phone, all the while hiding behind spoofed phone numbers, fake company names & titles......

Realistically, getting sued in small claims court isn't that big of a deal and isn't something that warrants the fear and anxiety that the scammers want you to have. -Anyone can sue anyone for any reason but it doesn't necessarily mean they are going to win. A lawsuit is a process onto itself and disputes can be settled amicably based on proof or the lack of it either in a court room or outside of one. In the case of the illegally operating debt collector, you should welcome a lawsuit from them, make them prove in court that you owe them money since they are unwilling to mail anything to you, and if they have broken any laws in their attempts to collect a debt, inform them that you'll be filing a countersuit just as soon as you get their names off the lawsuit papers.

Morally though, if you owe someone money, you may want to consider doing the right thing and paying it back and you'll have a clear conscience. But pay it to the actual people/company you owe it to, not the shady debt collectors.

These clowns are at it again.
3 your ago got a new call number and the calls started, told the   1st caller it was a new number
and I didn't know the person they're requesting. Well, okay, thinking everything was okay, the calls continued.
Can you believe, for the past three years have received these calls, and each time state the same; "YOU HAVE THE WRONG DAMNED NUMBER!" does not seem to work, the calls continue.
And the National do not call registry is a joke, when they continue to slap them on the wrist.
Can anyone tell me how to stop these calls before I change my number?

Debt Collector
888-877-1001 A guy named Stanley Lock called my sister (not me) about a debt that I had already paid on over a year ago. It is not even on my credit report either. Apart from the'888' number Stanley Lock says his direct line is 716-404-4711. Anyway, he says I am facing legal proceedings against me for an item that was returned to my bank and I will have to settle the debt today to stop the legal proceedings. I will have to set up a payment plan or pay $600.00 and some odd dollars in full. The payment plan would be pay $240 something a month. I told him that I'd need proof (a statement of the debt) in the mail (physical united states postal service mail) before I give any of my account information out. He said he'd be more than willing to and would also send me an e-mail with the company letter head. The only thing is I can't wait until the physical proof comes to me in the mail I would have to give my personal banking and card information TODAY. Scam, scam, scam. Also, they had all of my information on file...why did they not call me first but call my sister? It is a scare tactic..that's why. Also, when I told him I had already paid this off over a year ago he asked me to read the account # on my paid in full letter. Of course it didn't match up to his. But he said if it did he would immediately have written it off without me showing physical proof of it. Hmmmm.
F R A U D
I have gotten nothing in the mail since I had paid this debt off. I had not gotten any calls except for this one about the debt. I have not received any information on this debt in the mail and have no prior notification about the debt to avoid these sudden "legal proceedings."

Called the number back and the guy who answered wouldn't tell me anything other than he works for the Utah Department of Legal services, which I promptly googled.  No real results show up. I told him that.  He then said, do you have a case number? I don't see the phone number you are calling from in our database.  "That's because I am smart and didn't call you back on my cell."  He then was very irritated and I said, "Tell me who you actually work for." "Sir, either give me a case number or a phone number and I will see what I can do. Otherwise we are done."

I just hung up.  If you can't tell me what you do all day for a job, you are faking it and ripping people off.  Fake name.  Fake job.  RIP OFF!
