Phone rang and the disconected when I answered.  Anybody know where area code 888 is?

Just got a call and hang up

who is it. call and hangup. Is it someone's errant computer?

This is a telemarketing firm giving out free subscriptions to Government Computing Network magazine. The main company is 1105 Media, you can call their Customer Relations at 888-865-8633 and chew their A$$ for it.

The system is a War-Dialer. It will connect you with an agent if one is available at the time you say "Hello", if there isn't an agent ready for the call it just hangs up and will try again. It will also hang up after about 5 seconds if you don't answer with "Hello". I said "Whazzup" for grins, silence for 5 seconds then it hung up.

I have recieved this phone number call every minute today. Literally. I answer, and they hang up. I have tried to call back and I either get a busy signal or no one ever picks up. It's harrassement!!

I just got another from this number. It is irritating to say the least.

Now to go look up the other one I have been getting:

I have been getting calls from this number daily. my answering machine picks up does it's talk  and then  they hang up.
 I just *69'd the # to see if I could talk to someone and was told the number was no longer in service.

I get a call from that number once or twice a day.  I try to call back but nothing.

I get a call from this number now every day at 6:03 am. This sucks because my own alarm is set to 6:30 am

I got call from this number. Caller was asking information for renewing DM review.

Got phone msg from this number. Msg was a death threat.

I got this number on my work phone and cell. This has got to be some subscription service or telemarketer.

Recieve multiple calls a day from this number, hang-ups  WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO THIS IS.

Interesting - just got a call from this number, but I saw it on my caller ID and didn't answer. It hung up right before my phone turned the call over to voicemail.  This better not be a Wells Fargo "ping" attempt again.

Same thing, call from this number at my business several times a day, when I answer they hang up.  I called back and got a busy signal.  It's starting to get on my nerves!

Got several calls to my cellphone frm this nbr over last several wks. No idea why... No msgs left, no callback possible.

Same here.  I think this has been happening for the last few weeks now.  Not sure if it's the same 888 number every time.  Will start paying more attention.

got a call on my cell phone from this number. Did not answer. No message was left. Trying to look up the number on reverse phone sights.

I spoke to an individual named Laray Crenshaw at this number today, she was requested/soliciting money for the Fraternal Order of Police, and hung up on me when I attempted to verify where this money would be going or what specific functions it would support.

I just got a call from this number to renew my trade magazine. They called twice but the agent was very nice and got me off the phone in a few minutes.

I'm now getting calls from this number after I stupidly participaged in eWeekly's 10 minute survey. Now, it is not only this one, but one with an area code of 480 I believe, which traced back to a telemarketing firm in Arizona. So if you get to talk to one of them, DON'T do the survey, or your dead meat. Much like unsubscribing your email from a website, once you do that they know it is a valid email and your toast!

Many of these are what we used to call War-Dialers. The system will just keep calling numbers in the list, if there is an agent available at that time it will connect to them, if not, it just hangs up and will try calling you again.

for the past week, once a day mid-morning, now today 10am and 2:45 pm....same thing answer, 1 second pause, then click.

I called the Customer Relations No. (888-865-8633) for 1105 Media - publishers of Govt. Computer News - and spoke with the Operator, Felicia. She did acknowledge that 888-899-0137 is one of their phone numbers. It is probably coming from one of their call centers.

I asked her to place me on a DO NOT CALL list. She had to take my info. "to trace it in their system, and get it removed", so we'll see if the calls stop.

This person calling from this number said that were from Gov't Computer News and wanted to give me a free subscription.  I asked them to remove my number from there calling list.  They are been calling me for days non stop.

I just got a call from 888-899-0137.  I answered and the line went dead.
