Nobody has ever been served by his so-called office.. Tell them to cease the harassment and phone calls.. And report them to the BBB or office of consumer affairs .. But don't fear this office.. They have NO authority just scare tactics that are mostly illegal in the USA..

Follow the steps in what you need to know. A legitimate debt collector agency should not have a problem with giving you a real business name and address you can google and verify via google street view, BBB etc.

Law enforcement is not in the business of debt collection - so no "real" sheriff would be calling and telling you to pay some stranger who'd just called you.  Debt is also civil, not criminal, so even if you had defaulted on a loan, you cannot be arrested.

Phone calls mean NOTHING!!!!!   IF you did owe money, you would need written documents delivered by mail or a server (who does NOT call first).  This is a scam to extort money from someone who is probably out of the country.  No, the police are not coming & you are not going to jail (expect to be told that as well as other threats).

My wife and I also received calls from this group, which we're not even sure how they got our numbers since they were trying to contact my mother, I presume. They claim that they're trying to serve a court summons, and if you knew my mother, you would know that there is no reason for them to do so. Don't give them any information.

Debt Collector
I received a voicemail from a lady named "Sophia", telling me to respond to the office of Anthony Peoples with in 24 hours, to avoid criminal charges on an unpaid debt. I called Mr. People's back, and asked him what it was in reference to. He initially said it was for anunpaid pay day loan from 6 years ago, though later stated it was for an unpaid bail bonds (I've never bailed anyone out of jail). I explained to him that the only pay day loan I ever knew of was one my late husband had taken out, on our joint account. He proceeded to tell me that he didn't care who took it out, but my name was on it too, and they have me on video, and that I needed to be an adult and take care of my responsibilities. When I asked him if he could prove that this wasn't a scam, he got really angry and started calling me a "scumbag piece of s***", and that I would be hearing from the sheriff's department in the next 24 hours, and then hung up on me. 20 minutes later I received I call from an "officer Randal", stating that he just spoke with Mr peoples and that I had refused to pay an over due debt, and that I had 90 minutes to call Mr peoples back and resolve the issue, or they would be issuing a warrant for my arrest the following morning. The number that showed up on the caller ID actually went to the Clark County Sheriff's Department. So I called and asked for an officer Randal, but was told there are no "officers" there, they only go by deputy, but there was a sergeant Randal, but that he was not in the office, and even if he was he would never be the one to make calls like that. Not to mention, this is a civil issue not a criminal issue. He also informed me that if someone were to actually call me from anywhere in the building, the number to show up on the caller ID would not be the one that takes you to the front desk, but one that simply takes you to a recording. Also the collection agency that this a** hat peoples supposedly works with had no trace of me anywhere in their system. This guy is with out a doubt, the scum of the earth scam artist. I will say he is technologically innovative, but that's about it. The sad part is, when I saw that the number went to the actual sheriff's office, before I realized it was a giant scam, my best friend put almost $450 on his visa, because as a single widow, and mother of 2, going to jail for a debt that could possibly have been from my past wasn't an option. So now we will be stopping payment on that. So please please please do not let this piece of s*** fool you. Let's spread the word so he can't trick anyone else with this name. Unfortunately all he had to do is pick a new name.... I hope karma kicks his a**.

Yep I received a call from the Office of Anthony Peoples today claiming he was a federal mediator out of DC working for Advance America about a payday loan and wanted $600. I had no recollection of this so asked for them to send validation in writing and if it's legit i'll take care of it. He said to pay now and it's taken care of or they could do an email with the same info he's telling me, so i asked for writing again and he said he would forward to the Sheriff's office and i'll be contacted by them and hung up. I dug around and figured it was a scam.

So to my surprise an hour later I got a call from the Sheriff saying Peoples let him know that I owed this money and to either pay it with him or I have a warrant ready to be served and to turn myself in tomorrow then hung up on me. I decided to call the Sheriff to see if this is legit and noticed it was the same number that called me so now i'm freaking out. Called a criminal lawyer friend of mine and said he had never heard of the Sheriff hanging up on anyone and to call the office. I called the Sheriff and they said they were aware it's a scam and their number comes up unidentified if they call out.

I am super impressed they were able to spoof (fake) the Sheriff's number that is some next level stuff I have to hand it to them. But not my money, nice try!

Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process.

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

I got the same call from some lady identifying herself as Denise Jackson.  She called 3 days in a row, each time leaving a message telling me that I have 24 hrs to contact the law office of Anthony Peoples.  Today, she left a message stating that since I have been noncompliant, I have one final opportunity to contact the law office of Anthony Peoples or be served by a processor on tomorrow morning at my home or place of employment.

Did anyone get served by these folks?

Got a call yesterday from this number. Was supposedly the Law office of Anthony Peoples,is actually called Nationwide Recovery Group. Said they had a case number between me and the state of Tennessee. Tried to get me to pay 250 dollars then with credit card and would email my receipt. I said no I have no recollection of this debt,I will research and call you back. Did my homework and called back this morning. Told him what I had found out about his false impersonation, breaking F TC and FDCPA-laws,and no proof on paper. I ask for his address and business info,he told me I am a loser,a** hole, piece of s*** and that he is blocking my number. I called back and sure enough he did. This is a bottom of the barrel collection agency that needs something done about them. Please pass this on to other innocent victims of fraud.

No, that you felt you "had to pay" without proof on paper was your "bad mistake". Let's toss on the false threat of process service, the possible "out of stat" debt age, and that your state may have outlawed payday loans and collection. But like a hundred shills before you, you want us to think that calling the creditor to see who they might hire for collection makes good enough proof of claim, which is the opposite direction of correct flow of information as specified by the FTC. Any stranger on the phone making a shaky claim like this and counting on me to be "scared of out my mind" can put up or shut up, and had best obey the FDCPA to avoid a *real* lawsuit from me. Hope this helps ... your victims, that is.

So I called peoples and asked very nicely for an address his answer was. "Why ya gonna send me a postcard?" Then he put me on hold and hung up. So I called again and got a woman and asked nicely again for an address and got hung up on. Seems strange that they won't give an address. Also look up the name of their locator she hasa history of doing this. One story is for a diffrent lawyer who told them to wait on the front porch and the sheriff would be there to arrest them in about. 90 min. Then the supposed sheriff called and said they better contact this lawyer. I have turned this over to FTC.

They keep calling for the person who owned this phone number over 5 years ago.  They left a voicemail after calling from a private number and I called back and left them a voicemail with the case they gave and said that I'm not the person they're looking for and the called AGAIN.  When I returned the call some a***ole recording said very meanly that it's my responsibility to be by the phone.  I only discovered it was a recording after I tried to tell him that I wasn't the person they were looking for and the recording repeated and said goodbye.  All these b***s*** and scam phone calls are getting pretty damned old.

I received the same exact call yesterday too. I automatically thought it was a scam also. Today I received another call from a person wanting to know which address I wanted to use to have some papers served to me regarding this case. They had all the last three known addresses for me. I asked the lady what this is referring to, because at this point I'm scared of out my mind. She says she cant tell me but to contact Anthony Peoples. I called yesterday and this morning and both times got an answering machine where I left a message and at that point I hadn?t receive a call back.

I told this to the lady on the phone and she suggested I try again at that moment. I did and finally got a secretary for Mr. Peoples. He was busy but called me back less than 10 mins later.

Turns out 5 years ago I skipped out on a payday loan and they were finally coming to collect. The payday company was one I know I did skip out on so I agreed to pay the amount that I owed them. Mr. Peoples was very nice about it. I received an email confirmation showing that I paid a company called Nationwide Recovery Group, LLC.

After I paid them and hung up I still had this icky feeling that perhaps I was scammed so I goggled the company name and read lots of negative things regarding Nationwide. Again, feeling like I was scammed out of $300 bucks I decided to call the payday lender and try to verify if they work with Nationwide and it turns out they do. I was able to confirm they did turn my account over to a debt company and I should be able to confirm that everything is paid off in a few weeks. Which I will be doing.

Hope this helps. Sucks I made a bad mistake and now I had to pay. Good luck to you!

I got a message saying to call this number 888-908-6195 to avoid a criminal / federal / civil complaint against me with my name (sort of) and social security number. The female voice said this number is the Offices of Anthony Peoples. Her actual number on my phone was blocked. Is this a scam?
