I have been receiving magazines for a year and wondered why. I never signed up to pay for any. I told them my magazines have been arriving just fine and after 40 hellish minutes they got what they needed and it looks like I can't get out of the $40 a month that is coming out of my bank account. They called me about magazines I have been getting for free (I would never pay for magazines, I don't even read them) to make sure I've been getting them, because "some of our customers have said that they aren't receiving their magazines or they are damaged" and I said mine are fine. Then they said it was a customer survey and asked which credit card company do you prefer? I said Visa. They wanted to verify my card number "beginning with 4" and I didn't know all Visa's begin in 4 so I assumed they already had my card number. Like a FOOL, I "verified" my card number and the code on the back. They proceeded to offer me a lower rate ($39.90 a month) as compared to $50 a month and I said that I do not pay for magazines. They said I was already signed up to pay for them and it was to begin in March of this year. I told them I never signed up and they told me I signed up for a 3rd party offer which signed me up. When I told them I wanted to cancel they said I would have to talk to someone else about cancelling, they were "just offering a lower rate than what you're already signed up for." I informed them that "I only make $120 a month, I can't afford $39.90 a month." And for what? One magazine a month?!? Who would pay that? They said "then you definitely need to call before the 21st of March and talk to them about getting a lower rate than this but first you have to accept our lower rate $39.90." They said they would not charge me until March 21st. They kept telling me that they had to record me saying "no automatic renewals" if I didn't want an automatic renewal in 5 years. I sure as heck didn't. The guy went over the same script repeatedly until I only answered "yes" or "no" to every question he asked. I was on the phone with them for FORTY MINUTES. This was on March 1st. I got onto my bank account about an hour later and there was a FIFTY DOLLAR charge from Consumer Magazines. I immediately called the bank and answered their questions about my fraud claim. They didn't let that payment go through and issued me a new card. It is now 9 days later and I just looked at my bank account and yesterday there was a $39.90 charge that went through from Consumer Magazines!!! How is this possible after canceling my card? This is Saturday night, so on Monday I will call the bank about this charge. It is still not March 21st, when the charges were supposed to come through. They recorded the same questions repeatedly and I suppose they only needed one (the last one) where I had given up explaining to them that I couldn't afford it and had accepted that there was nothing I could do about it. It was a SCAM. I've NEVER signed up to pay for magazines I wish I had just hung up but I thought they were going to charge me $50 anyway because that's what they told me and by that time they already had my info WHICH I THOUGHT THEY ALREADY HAD. In the beginning they also asked for my social and I told them I would not give that to them. They do, however, have my birth date, my address, apparently access to my bank account, etc. I feel like a complete idiot.

tired of getting calls from this number. plz note i don't answer calls from any unknown numbers.

THEY SAID I HAD SOME MAGAZINES...NOT TRUE AT ALL

I answered and it was a magazine company and they wanted to know if everything was ok with my subscription. My boyfriend get magazines so I thought thats what it was. They asked me if everything was ok and all my mags were getting to us on time and no damage, i said everything was ok and they asked me if I could verify my visa card number for there record. at this point I hung up.

this number has called me 11 times in the last three days.  how can they be stopped.
they ar driving me crazy.  please let me know if any one else has has figured out how to stop them.

I think you have to  add each pesky caller to that lis which I always take time to do.

So I also received a call from this number.  I don't receive these junk calls directly because I use a magic jack phone number for any form other than doctors' visits. I get an email message and don't have to open it.  I use my real cell number for family & friends.  :)

I received a call from this number.  They asked me if I was receiving my magazines.  This is come kind of magazine company.  When I told them I wasn't getting anything and didn't want to they hung up.

Yes it can be blocked--Call your local phone company and they will tell you how to do it. I have 15 calls already blocked. Hope that helps

It is 4:00 PM and these people have called 3x already. I do not answer any calls when the CID says UNKNOWN NAME.

anoying idiots...called three times today when I was not home.  when they called the forth time I picked up and no one answered the line.  I called back the number and no company name provided.  It just said customer service and if you want to know what the call was about press 2, and so I did.  The message indicated a magazine company updating their files.  Yaa right idiots I'm giving you information to update my file for magazines I don't buy.

Call Publishers Clearing House and give them the phone number that called you.  Let them know some scammers are out and about smearing their name.  They'll get one of their hundreds of attys on the case.

The caller claimed that I had been submitted in a million dollar sweepstakes and that my entry was sponsored by a credit card company. She proceeded to ask me what credit card I used the most. I was very suspicious and tried to avoid giving any personally identifiable info. She tried to offer me a magazine subscription and I declined that as I didn't trust her and suspected that they were just trying to get my address.
I suspect it is some kind of scam. She hung up pretty quickly once I declined the magazines.

I have been getting calls from this number 3 to 4 times a day.  I won't pick up because I've heard of some scams going around that charge you ridiculous amounts of money on your phone bill.  I'm on the gov. do not call list.. I still get the calls though!

I'm recieving calls from this number they don't leave a message on my inbox I googled the area code is says is from Tenesse but I don't know who it is the number is 901-881-2429

I received a call today and like everyone else, I did not pick up.  They did not leave a message but it is the first time I have gotten a call with this number.

Have no idea who this is. Was only music on line when I answered. Can this number be blocked so I have no more calls from it?

I got the same call Jeanie Bacon did. I picked up and all I heard was Music. like elevator music. kinda creepy. lol. but I'm just not answering for it from now on.

I keep getting multiple calls a day from this number.  I don't answer it.  I am highly annoyed as I also kept getting the same type of calls from another number.  Once I posted something online about it, I stopped getting calls from that number and started getting calls from this one.  I too am on the do not call list!

I received a call from that number 5 times a day for the last 2 weeks and I never answer it since they never leave a message. Just ignore it as much as you can and eventualy the calls will stop.

I received 7 calls from this number today. I don't know the number and searched it on the internet once I had a chance. From all the info that I read on this page, it looks like a scam. I am going to call block it after reading above. Funny because I am on the do not call list as well.

Received a call today 5/27/2009 stating that I was one of the lucky ones entered into the One Million Dollar drawing with Publishers clearing house.
I would only have to pay $4 something a month for some magazine subscriptions to qualify. They would call me if I won.

several calls from this number daily. they do not leave messages. i returned the call and went through a prompt which offered me a selection to be removed from the list. They are continuing to call even though I selected to be removed from their list.
