Good ol' CRTC, looking out for the average taxpayer. Nice
to have a Do Not Call system, that will Do Not Do anything
to stop this kind of harassment. Maybe next time these goofs call up, offering to clean ducts, or cruise trips, or
whatever their selling, I should envite them over. In the meantime, I'll take a great big army boot and stuff it in the freezer, let it get nice and tough, then give them a good kick in the a*** when they get here.

got the phone call at 18:26

Marcus, please educate yourself.
The DNC list is mandatory for TELEMARKETERS.
You are NOT being called by telemarketers, you are being called by fraudsters.
You think they will spare you because you happen to be on the DNC list?
You can't be serious??
Meryll Lynch 2014-05-17 05:23:38 Unknown
This has nothing to do with the do-not-call list. You don't seem to understand what is going on.
The DNC list is used by telemarketers -- people who are trying to sell you goods and services.
This caller is a criminal, a frauster, a bandit, a scammer.
Do you really expect them to use the DNC list to spare you as a victim?!
Meryll Lynch 2014-05-17 05:16:15 Unknown
Just to clarify:
- These people are NOT telemarketers.
- There is NO free cruise.
- The actual calling number is NOT as displayed, i.e. 902-708-8306 in this case.
- Your number being on the do-not-call list will NOT protect you against these calls.
These people are fraudsters operating from overseas, typically from Pakistan but it could be from elsewhere. The number you see is 'spoofed' (faked) to make it look like the call is from within Canada. Sometimes the scammers even spoof your own area code to make it look even more "local".
They are trying to steal your credit card information. They will tell you that you won a free cruise; and they just need your personal information and credit card details to "confirm" your reservation.
While this is clearly a crime there is little to no enforcement in Canada about this type of fraud. Since these criminal gangs are actively investigated and vigorously prosecuted in the USA, Canada has now become a choice destination for their fraudulent activities.
So remember this is FRAUD. The DNC list is not a magic bullet to stop all nuisance calls. It only works for bona fide telemarketers - alarm companies, pool or lawn maintenance, internet or insurance offers, etc. The DNC list does not protect you against criminals obviously.

Got a call from this number on my cell. Did not pick-up. No VM.
Lou Hamel 2014-05-17 01:00:55 Unknown
902-708-8306 called my cell phone today. I did not answer it.
When I called it back, it rang twice and then nothing, I hung-up after 2 minutes of silence.

The number you see on your phone is spoofed, fake.
These people are criminals and typically calling from overseas.
Obviously they will not give you their real phone number, right?
A. G. Bell 2014-05-16 23:46:28 Unknown
No, not telemarketers. Telemarketers are trying to sell you something. These people have nothing to sell.
They are fraudsters trying to steal your credit card details.
A. G. Bell 2014-05-16 23:44:29 Unknown
The caller is not a telemarketer. It's a criminal trying to steal your credit card information.
A. G. Bell 2014-05-16 23:42:30 Unknown
Obviously you don't understand what is happening here.
The Do-Not-Call list is a list of phone numbers that TELEMARKETERS can't call.
This call that you have received is NOT from telemarketers, it is from a criminal gang committing a fraud.
You think that criminals will bother to get the DNC list and not scam the people on the list? Won't happen.
A. G. Bell 2014-05-16 23:38:02 Unknown
No, it is not so.
Telemarketers have something to sell.
These people have nothing to sell, they are trying to steal your Visa/MasterCard information and use it fraudulently.
They are not telemarketers with quotas.
JM 2014-05-16 23:37:00 Unknown
Just called 20 min ago and answered. It was a recording about a free cruise. I hung up.
A. G. Bell 2014-05-16 23:34:34 Unknown
The call is not from PEI. The callers insert a fake area code ('902' in this case) to make it look like the call is coming from Canada and appear more trustworthy. It's not.
A. G. Bell 2014-05-16 23:31:56 Unknown
They are after your name, DOB, and credit card number.
A. G. Bell 2014-05-16 23:18:19 Unknown

Phyllis L 2014-03-31 14:00:54 Telemarketer
They called me on my cell Friday, March 28th in the afternoon. I answered it as I was curious about a call coming from Nova Scotia. It was a recording that started saying, "You're a winner!" So I hung up...damn telemarketers:(
Vancouver 2014-03-31 06:12:44 Survey
Yoo hoo I won yet another free all expense paid Bahama cruise for 2. Did I hear right? Yes I did. Just have to answer some right wing survey about the US government (I'm Canadian) and give them my credit card number for some reason. Wow this scam is so old there are younger rocks. I always get them after failing to answer a telemarketing call from Telus. They all use the same Pakistani fraudster call centers. No point in complaining. Give them Harper's name and address and a phoney credit card number.
