I don't have a Verizon phone, but I have received these calls. Cell phone numbers became available the first of the year to telemarketers and such. I know you can buy a phone number listing from phone carriers. There was a window last year to opt out of that, but I missed it! So now I get calls from all kinds of people, mostly scammers, some commericals. I love that the government made my numbers available, freedom of information act my butt! More like harassment.

My 16 year old daughter and I both got the same text messages. The 1st one on April 25, 2010 said First National Bank Alert: Your card strating with 4054 has been deativated. Please contact us at 903-2589283 to reactivate your card.
The 2nd one on April 26, 2010 said the exact same thing even the "strating" typo but with the phone # 800-785-0414.
I recently opened a checking account with my daughter but not with a First National Bank. This will be her first lesson in scams!

There is a National Do Not Call List on the internet that our phone company told us about because 1 day after our phone was hooked up we started getting calls from solicitors asking for us by name
www.donotcall.gov
It supposedly takes 72 hours to go into effect after you check your email and confirm. Also, Suddenlink told us that if a solicitor calls and your name is on this list they are to be fined. How true that is is unknown to me, but I added my home and cell number to it.
As for the Verizon txt, I got the same one regarding a bank card being deactivated from First National Bank. I am wondering the same as everyone else, how did this scammer get my number? And it seems most everyone says they are a Verizon customer...it's usually a good bet to start with the common demoninator. Whoever is contacting FBI, let us know how it goes please. I will keep my txt for proof of scam if needed.

My husband and I both got the messages this weekend and then someone that my husband works with on a different network than us also got the message.

Got same " Scam Text", called the First National Bank to report, since I don't even bank there, they confirmed it was a "Scam." Said: DO NOT REPLY.

If this continues it is going to cost Verizone a customer. I would change to a service provider that kept the phone number secure.

OK, I DID A LITTLE INVESTIGATIVE WORK AND FOUND 903-258-9283 IS A TYLER, TX PHONE NUMBER. I called the Tyler Police Dept. and she said "Just Ignore it and delete it." That's what's wrong with our country.......no one inforces the laws we have to protect the innocent people. But let's just bend over backwards to inforce the laws that protect the rights of criminals!!!! GEEEEZZZ !!!! I can't imagine that an intent to commit fraud isn't illegal!!! SHE ALSO SAID THEY'VE BEEN FLOODED WITH PHONE CALLS AND HAD EVEN RECEIVED 4 ON HER OWN PHONE.
I'm calling the Tyler,TX FBI Monday. Hope you all do the same!

Fraudulent text message!!!
Message says From: 502
First National Bank Alert: Your card strating (misspelled was first clue it was fraud) with 4054 has been deactivated. Please contact us at 903-258-9283 to reactivate your card.
I called Verizon and they said I can block this number. I told her that wouldn't solve the problem. These are people preying on innocent folks, some of which are elderly and trusting. No telling how many will give out their name and credit card numbers.
She finally gave the number to the Fraud Dept @ Verizon which is only open M-F 8-6 eastern time.
Hope this info helps others.

I have received two TEXT messages from this number (903) 258-9283
The first said - "East Texas Proffesionals CU Alert: Your card has been deavtivated. Please call
us at 903-258-9283 to reactivate your card." then a short time later I got another one. I didn't realize at first that the BUISNESS name had changed.
The second said "First National Bank Alert: Your card has been deavtivated. Please call us at
903-258-9283 to reactivate your card."
I don't have accounts with either Bank. This morning a friend that was with me when the messages
were received called to tell me that First National Bank in Gilmer had a message posted on there billboard that these messages were scams, DO NOT RETURN THE CALL.
