Wow I'm happy for google and that i found this site. This company Allen and Lewis is by far the worse most unprofessional business I have ever dealt with. I caught the collector lying to me. He said he had contact with the owner of the business, whom I supposedly owed money to, everyday and he would be informed of any changes on my account. I paid my balance in full over a year ago. Thankfully I had the cell number of the owner and contacted him right away, he stated that he had not talked to the collection agency or had any contact with them for over 2 YEARS. Fortunately while i was on the phone with the owner on a land line the collector called again on my cell phone and I answered telling him I was on the line with the owner and my balance was paid in full. I asked the collector the phone number that the owner could call and settle this matter but he refused to give me a number and replied saying that the owner has his number and would have called him already. The collector was so unprofessional yelling at me saying that my actions speak louder than words and I will be sorry if i do not pay WTF that is a threat........ he even called my dad and was harassing him about MY business, I am 25 years old and that is an invasion of my privacy to put my info out there like that and threaten my dad that if i don't pay then it will be reported and action will be taken against me. This company needs to be shut down. I am a kind patient person and was appalled at the lack of character this Mark Davis has, he is a extremely rude person, very unprofessional and is in my opinion not very good at his job, attitude is everything and his sucked. Actions DO speak louder than words, I kinda feel sorry for him to be such a horrible person to other human beings. The only thing is I don't know who to contact to get this out there so no one see has to experience this unfortunate situation.

I am proud of you Miranda!
Also we need to ignore the idiots on here that are posting ugly things about not paying bills as they obviously either work for Allen, Lewis, etc or some other credit company.  I hope they can sleep at night knowing they do this to people. I am sure they can sleep, people like that have no conscience or heart.

Absolutely...I wrote the Attorney General of Florida and he was telling me about the last class action lawsuit against this company. He said again they will file suit against them again if there are enough people complaining.  I had gone to a lawyer just to sue them on my own and he said I had a good case and would probably win but it would probably not be to my benefit as the amount we would get would only be enough to pay his bill to me.

My daughter just came in and said "some really rude man just called and said that he's been trying to reach you for months and months and that he is making a decision about me and Im not going to like it bla bla bla"  He was telling her all of my business, which I assume is against the law??  She even said to him "I am not XXXXX so why are you telling me all of this information? It has nothing to do with me?"  He just started screaming at her etc.. and threatening her saying he "knew that she was me" ........She eventually just hung up on him and I am not kidding you, he just called here and hung up 14 times, over and over and over!!  WHAT kind of company is this????  Have they never heard of the saying "you attract more bees with honey rather than vinegar?"  He would have had a better chance had he  politely asked for me and told ME what this was concerning (I still do not know??) and at least "acting" like he cared.  In that case Im sure we could have worked something out.....but to call someones house screaming your head off at their daughter and making demands and threats???  good luck buddy!!  jerk!  I still cant get over the fact that he called and hug up 14 times!  Oh my goodness! here he is again calling!! WOW!

My son and I had rented a musical instrument, We had to move and returned the instrument, and went on with life, after about 9 months at our new home, we started getting phone calls from this number.....I talked with Derrick and got all the information down.  I truly thought this is a joke, so I told him I wanted to contact the place where we had gotten the rental from.  I did they showed no balance, so then I had to ask who they got the instrument from, and I called them......Apparently during our move they were trying to collect a back past due debt...we had never gotten the mail because we moved and our house had went into short sale.  SO I got verification of what we actually owed which was about 150.00 less than was being told to me by Derrick.....against my better judgement I got myself on a payment plan and paid off what I actually owed this Music Rental place.  Now  the man Derrick is calling my home again to try and collect the 150.00 plus whatever...I havent listened to the message yet.  I just called the Music Rental store and Talked with the Owners and told them this same thing..I asked them to please let me know if I owed them any back balance, and I would gladly cut them a check and put it in the mail ASAP.....I gave them all of our personal info such as my sons name and school and a call back so we can get this cleared up.  Waiting to hear back.
If you do owe a true debt contact the people you owe, we all have difficult times and struggles, but to be threatened and called names is no acceptable.  We dont have to take it.

Well, you could sue the third-party debt collector for violating the law, and then use the winnings to pay the original creditor.

I have been harassed by these guys at Allen Lewis and Associates for the last two weeks. This is the first time I have heard of this issue that they say is well over a year old. They have been calling me on my work number, I didn't know this was a no no. So I am going to tell them to call another number. They were extremely threatening, demeaning and abusive verbally, especially by a guy by the name of Mark Davis. I was physically shaking by the end of the call.

They have made  at least two false statements to me:

1. By saying that they cannot hold this any longer or it will go back to the client. This is not true because I called the client and they said it specifically cannot go back to them, it's against the law. Somebody is lying and I don't think it is the very nice and polite lady at the store whom I offered to pay dirrectly.

2.They are insinuating that I have committed a crime because I am in possession of "missing property" (the same as saying it's stolen property). How can you be held liable for the financial value of an item plus interest and also have it charged as stolen or "missing" property at the same time??

I want to pay this off because it is just a big misunderstanding, and a very long story. But they insist that I give them my checking account info or a credit card, NOW "or else". I don't trust them, and according to this forum and their "F" rating on the Better Business Bureau webstie I'm better off not cooperating.

There seem to be ample grounds for a class action suit. If any attorney wants to pursue I am willing to help out. These guys are extremely unprofessional.

You're a moron.  You think the reason we're in such s****y shape is bc people don't pay their bills?  WRONG.  Most people WANT to pay their bills.  We're in bad shape bc of b***s*** wars and corporations purchasing our congress and senate.  Insurance companies and conglomo corporations are bleeding  Average Joe dry.  At this rate the middle class will be non existent.

You're a f****ng idiot and probably sit on your fat stupid a** and watch Fox News re-runs.

It's people like YOU that make the world a s****y place.

Millions of people are out of work and CAN'T pay their bills.  Millions are struggling to keep their lights on while corporations like GE get federal handouts from Bush Administration laws and kickbacks while they don't pay a dime in taxes.

The problem is idiots like you.

got a call from this number; caller ID showed "Florida" - relative answered and they asked for me but then hung up before I could talk to anyone.  All my bills are current; I've never gotten a payday loan or rented a musical instrument.  I can only assume they're looking for a family member.

They've changed the area code. The phone call I got was LA  984-265-8133 on my caller ID. Today, I received a phone call out of the blue regarding a musical instrument that one daughter rented --are you ready for this-- when she was 13 and 14 years old for middle school band. She will be 29 year old in November. Several things about this show how bizarre these people are. #1. We don't owe any rental fees. #2. It has been 14 years since they say the rental fees were not paid. #3. The company is no longer in business in our city--the bill supposingly came from a "corporate" company in another city. The caller went by the name of Warren Whitehead with a phone contact of 800-777-5322, representing Allen, Lewis and Associate Law Firm of Jacksonville, Florida. Well I gave this man better than he could dish out and he got very angry with me, rude and threatening and hung up on me.

He changed his story about 2 different details in the same conversation. The amount I "supposingly" owed went up by $100.00 from the beginning of the conversation until the end. He became very angry when I pointed that out. He also told me that the reason there was so much time in contacting me was that my area code had changed (which it had--many, many years ago) and they just now got it. When I told him they must be a very incompetent law firm if it took them that many years to figure that out, he changed his story to say that they had only gotten the account on August 16, 2011. I told him that other than political phone calls, his was the most bizarre one I'd ever received. He didn't seem to care too much for that either. I asked for the address of the law firm and he told me that he couldn't give out the address. I replied, "Although I don't owe this amount, if I indeed did and was crazy enough to pay it--14 yrs down the road--how could I send you payment without an address?" He became more rude and informed me that they only accepted payments such as Western Union. I laughed at him and asked if he really thought I was stupid enough to send cash to someone who called me up out of the blue and told me that I owed money from 14 years back?" He became more angry and rude and  told me that he'd tried to be nice to me but that I was rude and that he didn't have to listen to me. I reminded him that he'd called me, that I for sure had not called him. He threatened me with reporting me to the credit bureau and I told him he could do whatever he wanted because I wasn't paying money I didn't owe. (AND IF I DID OWE IT, WHICH I DON'T, ANY DEBT OVER 7 YEARS OLD CANNOT BE REPORTED TO CREDIT BUREAU!).  So the bottom line is that when he got someone who tripped him up, he became very rude and angry and hung up on me. The really funny part of this is the daughter who played the Saxophone 14 years ago is now a practicing attorney plus I have another daughter who is an attorney.

I am going to inform Allen, Lewis and Associates that they are NEVER to call me again and that if they still insist on contacting me, it will have to be by mail or they will be violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices act. And that anything over 7 years old cannot be placed on your credit reports. And to tell them to go right ahead and sue me. As someone has already pointed out, they are not going to sue you unless you owe a LOT of money because they won't make anything. Obviously, they are a "con" operation and I can't believe they are still allowed to exist and harass people. I found another site (Rip-off web site) in which very similar story is posted and that person filed a complaint in 2004 with the Federal Trade Commission and yet they are still hard at it.  Tomorrow, I intend to file a complaint with both the Florida and KY Attorney General's Office. I also intend to call the corporate office of this music company to inform them that these scam artists are not doing much for their reputations and maybe they need to hire a better book-keeper.

For goodness sakes, don't let these moron con artist frighten or harass you!

A quick piece of advice. And btw do not listen to a thing the GOD man on here says.
I have a bit of experience with this kind of thing and my advice to you is if the people say they are taking you to court, LET THEM! If you dont owe 10,000 dollars or more them taking you to court is just going to cost them money they are not going to get. For one thing they are in florida or where ever so they will hire a lawyer from your state to file the case...this will cost them and most states have a code saying debt collectors cant get the lawyer fees added to what your owe, so they are out for the lawyer right off the bat then if they loose they pay court cost so take my advice and tell them to bother someone else and block there number from your phone.

Well i have never posted anything here or anywhere else but its obvious your a friend of the business whether you are the son or daughter or friend or co-worker who really cares. Do you think coming here and telling people to pay there bills will make them do it? Obviously not! It just makes you look like a whining cry baby that cant get his way. Take some advice and worry about yourself and if people want to complain about your family or friends for treating them like scum of the earth, let them its everyones right.

Apparently this company doesn't have it's FDCPA credentials. If you file a complaint with the SA of Florida in regards to lack of FDCPA procedure, they may be able to shut this company down.

A Derick Alexander  called me for the second time in two months and said that if i did not pay a debt that they (his company and lawyers) were going to press criminal charges against me and that I was harboring the property. If anything this amount, disputed, is a small claims court case, in which I asked them to file.....called and spoke to a supervisor names Sheryl and once I told her that i was going to file a complaint she said "I'm now going to terminate this call" because i was going to file a complaint.
