Found this as a missed call on my house phone when I got home from work. Caller ID just said "Out of Area" and the number 910-225-5617. I immediately blocked the number on my phone. Hate these unsolicited calls so much.

A woman call my phone asking for my husbands name i told her this is not my husbands number so what do you want and who are you why are you calling him through my phone? She hang up.

Told me her name was Mary and ask if I made a lot of long distance calls.  Said she was with Central telephone company.  Sound like someone is running a scam to me.  A debt collector has no reason to call me. So chance are they are not a debt collector just someone trying to get personal info.

This people are so stupid they keep calling not knowing how to take your number off the do not call list.  Uneducated people that can't get a decent job anywhere else except at a place that harasses people.  I'm up to date on all my bills and look at this as punishment for some one else.  Curious so I did a bit of research.  They are a junk collector.  They buy old debt for pennies on the dollar.  Then they try to bleed people dry.  harass them and claim to be able to do things they cannot.  Advise, tell them to take you to court and keep everything well documented.  They have to come to where you live to do this.  Make them prove it.  Write all three credit agencies, contact FTC.gov.  I expect most of these are unsecure loans.  In my opinion when a company sells their old uncollected bills to a junk collecting company, they have not tried everything to give that person a chance to make it right.  So many people out of work and then these people come into your life and want to take food off your table.  I believe that most people would pay their bills if they could and do as long as they can.  Most of these operators/collectors that are calling make hardly any money from what I understand, but maybe they get a commission.  It's beyond me why the original company can't settle the bill with the creditor for what they sell it to a junk company for.  The best thing to do if you want this resolved, is go ahead and tell them to set up a court date and take your documentation with you.  If you are faced with the same situation I am, just file a complaint at ftc.gov   I'm all for putting them out of business myself.

910-225-5617 keeps calling my workplace and hanging up. I called back and they are looking for a Johnny Thomas to collect a debt. Never heard of him, and doesn't sound like a previous employee... I think it is a SCAM.

I just got a call from this # I answered but no one said anything so I hung up.

They have called several times now, for other extensions. Asking me to verify the last four of my social.
First they said they work for BB&T. Told them I have never had an account with them.
Next day they called and said they were a collection agency with SCBC. I gave them no information and asked them to remove me from their list.
Next time they call and ask me to verify the last four of my social, I will tell them BOOK.....for facebook LOL

Stated past due amount from a cell provider which was not used for over 12 years was turned over to collections to them. Stated was reported in 2005 (this is 8 years later??) Told her I did not believe the this as the age of the account, the length of time since we had used the cell provider in question AND we had a major purchase after this time frame and it was NOT on our credit.
Told her would deal directly with the cell provider and told her good-bye and hung up. She held on the line for several minutes as could not use the phone due to her holding the line open!
Called the cell provider in question and they have no record of any monies due and stated they would have requested collection directly after close of the account.

Just got a text saying "Happy 4th" from this number, but it's July 5th already. I didn't respond.

Receive calls from 919-225-7560 or another extension every day and sometimes several times a day.  I answered yesterday and the woman was very belligerant and demanded to know if I was H...... and I said who is calling and she kept saying over and over - Is this H.....?  I said if you can't tell me who you are and what you want I will not say who I am.  and I hung up!  I blocked that number and now calling through another line.  I didn't answer.  IT IS VERY AGGRAVATING!

Said they wanted information to collect a debt for a phone company. Would not give me any information. Do not know who this is. Hung up on them.

This number called me and claimed to be an agency wanting information about a debt with Sprint. The woman claimed I owed over $500.00, but would not tell me what the phone number was that incurred the debt. She said I had to prove I paid all of my bills and it did not matter how many years ago I paid them. I have not had service with Sprint or AT&T in over eight years. I paid what I owed and have receipts. This is a scammer. I received correspondence in the mail that there is a lawsuit concerning AT&T giving long distance service to third parties without may permission. AT&T is being sued by many people. AT&T and Sprint are somehow united. Look out for these companies. It is a nightmare dealing with them. I have had no contact with them since 2005 and this is 2013.

Always tell debt collectors to send a debt validation letter (via mail not email or fax) and also a copy of the original contract you signed  with the original creditor.  They are legally bound to send you this information, so if they tell you otherwise, they are scammers.  Depending on the state you live in, a debt from 2001 is most likely legally uncollectible due to the statute of limitations.

If they refuse to send you the debt validation letter, you can safely ignore them.

It's a scam - if you had a debt from 1999, it would not be collectible and indeed, would be against the law to try to collect on it.  Always tell debt collectors to send you (via mail, not email or fax) a debt validation letter and information proving that you actually owe the debt and that they are entitled to collect it.  Ask for a copy of the original contract you signed with the original creditor.  If they can't or won't do this, then do NOT pay!  Legally they must provide you with this information.

I got a call from them on my cell phone that is under my husbands name. Trying to collect on debt from me  they said was from 2001ish. Don't know who they are; I hung up.

Rec,d a call from 910-225-5617 today 29 Apr 2013; a .lady , name I didn,t catch, she had the last 4 #,s of my SSN. and said I owed some money to Bank One; I told her that I didn,t know what she was talking about. I asked her when this was dated-she said 1999 and ifthat I owed around 2600.00 and said they would make a deal of $1000.00 and that would be a good deal; I still said that I didn,mt know what she was talking about. She said how a bout 850.00 thats the best deal we can offer. Or we can take it out of my taxes. She said that they could sit it up on a CRS and month pmts would be cheaper. I said I don,t have a card and I don,t know what a CRS is. Then I said send me a copy so I can see what you are talking about. She said the only we contact is by phone and wanted to know if I had an email address and I said yes, but I don,t give it out overphone or do any business over the phone that I don,t know what you are talking about. . Finally she said Have a Fabulousd day and hung up.

I got a call from this number today. They left a message on my voicemail. It was a Mr. Mcclain stating that my number was listed as a contact number and it was very urgent that I call him back at an 866-421-4998 number. Then he said that it was an attempt to collect a debt. He didn't say who he was calling for or anything like that.

I got a call from this number today. They left a message on my voicemail. It was a Mr. Thompson stating that my number was listed as a contact number and it was very urgent that I call him back at an 888 number. Then he said that it was an attempt to collect a debt. He didn't say who he was calling for or anything like that.

Voicemail. Something about someone I know being in trouble....

Caller stated that it was "very important" to return their call....and that this number {mine} was given as a contact number.  The caller does not give his name, make reference to my name, or for whom I am a contact person for....just that "it" is an important, {private} matter.  This has been left on my msg machine    
about 10 times in 3 weeks.
