For several months, I have received voice mail with the exact message as Greg C, for the following number 603-286-2334 and like he, I am not the person they are leaving the message for.  I called back and spoke to a man (would not give his name)  who was nasty and said he would take my number off of the call list. Today, I received a local call, 412-346-1370 with the same message and "case number".  I called back as they requested to, 412-346-1349, supposedly the legal dept.  I spoke to a Ms Henderson, complained about them calling me and she asked for my info, I told her no and she said if we do not have your info, then you are going to continue to receive calls and hung up. I have reported this earlier to the FBI and will make a complaint to the FCC today, as well as notifying my attorney.  I have also received the calls from 916-282-1314 and 603-296-2334, message not for me or anyone living in my home, and they give all give the same case number.

This is a scam and initiation of fraud from Sacramento, CA.  They are searching the internet for phone numbers (lifted mine from a business web page), leaving a threatening voice mail that implies fraud on your account while mentioning an involvement of a social security number and an imminent serving of papers to your home or business.  The VM is completely generic, no names given but then they give your case number, which I'd bet dollars to donuts is also generic and same for all, it is: CO11582.  They are clearly trying to instill fear so you will call them back and then divulge information so they can use that for their own fraud.  This is a criminal activity not merely a violation of a Do Not Call list.

Got same call, so tired of this crap. Especially the ones from Jamaica saying I won a million dollars and a new Mercedes?if I won this than send it to me, stop asking for money. Have already reported them and they admitted to my son they were scammers, he actually tried to talk my son in to doing the same thing that he does. I'm just glad my son told him why don't you get a real job and stop taking money from hard working people and those that are retired and taking they're life saving from them? Guess what he said?  Oh this is much easier? go figure. If you get a call and are not sure about it, just Google it.?????????

I just received my first call from 916-282-1314 today.  Phone display showed Sacramento, CA.  I don't know anyone there, have never been there or done business with any company there.  Same scenario as others have reported here.  I wasn't home, so a message was left on my voice mail.  A stern-sounding woman who didn't identify herself or where she's calling from other than the "Process and Summons Division" said that two charges had been filed against me in my county and that it looks like fraudulent activity has been attached to my name and social security number.  She gave a case number and said that I needed to call the Legal Dept. at 916-282-1314 before a process server delivered summons to me at home or at work.  If I waited until the summons was served, it would be too late to resolve this.  First of all, if this was a legitimate company or government agency calling, they would have clearly identified themselves.  Also, they wouldn't have said that 2 charges had been filed against me in "my county."  They would have named the county.  Still, receiving such a call scared me as well as made me angry.  I suspected that it was a scam, but wasn't sure.  I tried to do a reverse phone number look-up and got nothing except that it's from landline serviced by Pac-West Telecomm and is registered in Elk Grove, California.  I have an unlisted home phone number and have it registered on both the national "Do Not Call" list as well as my state's list.  The only place that I have my personal contact info posted online is on LinkedIn because I'm currently job searching.  I wonder if that's where the scammer is getting phone numbers.  Thank goodness I found this site with messages from others who have experienced the same thing!   Now I'm no longer worried about it...but still angry!!

Got a call from (916) 282-1314
A voicemail message was left on my phone saying that a summons was going to be sent to my house or place of work because of 2 counts of fraudulent activity linked to my social security # and I needed to call that #. It was a lady's voice, she said she was calling from the processing summons division. She also provided a case#. Needless to say, I was very scared. I called the # back and got no answer. I kept calling back and it rang twice and hung up, then once and hung up. I decided to research the # and came across this site. After reading everyone's posts I feel a little at ease now knowing that the call is bogus.
Thanx4 all your posts.

I just got a call from 916-282-1314.  Because I did not recognize the phone number as ligit, I did not answer.  They left a message, including my name, similar to these posts:  court summons, 2 fraud cases connected to my name and ss# in my county, case number given, etc.  First of all, sounds like identity thieves who are bottom feeders.  Second, never give out your personal information to anyone you do not know...such as your name and/or SS#.  Those two items should immediately be a red flag.  Because, if you give them your ss#......bingo......they are on their way to stealing your identity.  I was taught "Think before you speak."  And if in doubt, question it.

Got a call from 916-282-1314 today, lady told me there were two fraud charges pending against me. She said I entered an agreement with Capital One in '01 and they (at some point) attempted to withdraw funds from my account and failed. The charges stated I defrauded Capital one. She was offering arbitration in lieu of going to court. She also mentioned wage garnishment. I told her this matter is 14yo, she replied, that it continued until '07. I finally told her to send me the paperwork, she said "OK" and hung up.
I've been getting similar calls now for about 4 years. Even though they cannot do anything to my credit or take me to court (statute of limitations), they are very persistent in making me believe that they have the power to do so.
In 2010 I sent a Cease and Desist letter to collection agency b/c of the harassing phone calls. The collections company sent me a 1099-C, which I also reported to the IRS as false claim. Even though the debt has been written off (it wasn't mine in the first place), I continue to receive harassing calls.

I received my phone call on Feb. 11. They told me I had 2 charges attached to my name and social security number. I was told to call their legal department. They told me I would be served a summons at my place of employment. Well anyway, I received another phone call saying they needed my address to serve papers. They claim its from a credit card opened around 2000. I even called my attorney and he said it was a scam. The scammers told me that there was a warrant for my arrest. My husband called the sheriffs department and was told that there is no such warrant for me. I am so sick of scammers and their B/S.

Received same vmail Feb 11 and Feb 16 about 2 counts of fraud linked to my name and SS#, and that a summons would be served at my home and work. Unidentified person said all my rights would be waived unless I called the legal department at 916.282.1314.  Today I received a call from 603.296.2334 from another unidentified caller saying he was retained by fax order to serve me papers on a civil suit and that I had "officially been notified" and cited the same case number left from the 916.282.1314 number.  So glad I checked the number here before calling the scammers back!

You can't - all you can do is ignore the calls and report them to the FTC and your state's Attorney General.  The callers are scammers.  You can tell them that you know they're scammers, you've reported them, you will not be paying them a dime, and that you are recording all calls they make to you to give to your attorney.  Most scammers do not like to be recorded, especially if they are in the US.  Other than that, if you can't block the number, perhaps you can assign a no ring tone to the number(s) they call from so that the calls don't bother you as much.

It all comes down to knowing your rights.  Look, if you really did have charges against you, the cops would have already shown up and arrested you!  Debt is civil, not criminal, so you are NOT going to be arrested!  No one has had these callers show up with a court summons - again, your callers are scammers.  They can't do zip to you.  If this doesn't ease your mind somewhat, then do what you did with that other scam call you got about the alleged "hot checks" - you called the county clerk and she was able to tell you there was nothing - in other words, that caller was a scammer too.  Call your local/district courts and ask if your name is on the schedule - if nothing else, they'll be able to reassure you that once again, the caller is a scammer.
