I got the same email as Mike above. In fact I get a lot of them. They also have one version with this phone number also: 1-301-396-3506 and they are all for a place called University Program and they say to leave your name and phone number and what degree you are intereted in. I take those emails and forward them to SPAM@UCE.GOV so they will disappear. I recommend you do the same. They eventually get cut off by the government who is always watching. Ooooo.

I keep receving Spam from this same outfit, using any number of of telheone numbers as the retun number to sue to contact this delueded groups of misfit criminals.  That last number I received was 916-484-3795.  Earlier today, I received the 310-205-2402 tlehone number.  I am not lacking university degerss.  I am haowever lacking emplyment.  Another individual with a similar name has been using my university degrees and posting fraudulent resumes and curriulum viate using my degrees in my state, Vrignina.  Whenever we apply for emplyment at the same venues, sually both of us are turned down.  This woman also write in a very ignorant maner.  However, because her work is so prolific, I am confued with here whenver I apply for emplyment.  This process in which a goofball use's another's acdemic/professioanl crdentails in job application is called marginalization.  It is maliciously done to keep qualified individuals from emplyment.  In addition, there are also the iditos who have purchased another's crdentials or illegally copeid them themsleves.  I do not know what the case is with this other indivudal who to me appears to be a completely ignorant woman who presently is posing as a colleg professor or someone with a doctorate.  ( I have two master's degrees and addtioanl graduate work).

I hope that the FBI or someone catches not only my i,mpositor but those who are behind this illicit scam!

I'm from Europe, but isn't there anybody in the US that can stop this jerk? Cannot you get help from some anti spam institution (or so)? It's not only the spam, also the things they offer are completely illegal. Get him for that. This is a job for the police, I think.

These scammers are emailing me every single day. All they do is change the email message slightly and update their phone number. It's the same scam from the 'University Program" or "University Services". Their email messages are being sent from this IP: 213.111.157.64

Keep in mind they've changed their IP address also.

I get one of these "newsletters" every day at work. The "sender" uses a co-worker's name, so I can't block this sender. I can't unsubscribe from this newsletter, there is no unsubscribe. I reported it to spam@uce.gov before I decided to search on the phone number in the message.... the only point of contact: 916-484-3795.
I don't see how these emails accomplish anything for anyone. The text sounds like it was written by someone to whom English is a second language. Maybe it is coming from off continent.

I thought maybe this is retribution: I once worked for a diploma mill for a few months, between honest employment.

I have been receiving many email returns from someone using my email as a return address, just like a few ot you others.  It is a newsletter,  once 900 in a week on an email address I have had for eight years that i don't want to change either.  Then I hooked up with Efax to be able to send and recieve faxes via the email system.   Somehow they got my Pin# and sent about eight faxes on my brand new account when I caught the problem and changed my Pin.  It was a newsletter offering to assist you in getting a diploma or degree from prestegious Universities. (916) 484-3795 was the number to call and leave a message.  So far they have not called me back.  Did they have access to my computer to get my Pin#?  Or just access to my email somehow? Is there a clue in this info for anyone?   At the bottom of this fax was a line that said do not reply to this email, we do not respond to response traffic.  They are the same people.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one getting these spams.  In the past month I've gotten over 2000.  Has anyone been able to successfully stop this happening to them, short of changing their email?  AT&T has been 100% WORTHLESS in being of assistance.  Any thoughts out there?

The phenomenon at work here is called "Backscatter Spam" and is caused by email systems that send automated replies to fake e-mail senders. In this case they are replying to people that did not actually send the e-mail. The e-mails are sent by computers infected with spyware to servers all over the world that then bounce them to the spoofed e-mail addresses. The real jerks in this scenario are the system administrators that allow these replies to spoof addresses. The sad fact is that most IT people don't know how to correctly run their mail servers and as long as that is the case, this will be an ongoing issue with absolutely no resolution whatsoever.

John, I am not sure I understand you message.  How do I clean up these viruses with the header of the original email messages?

Most likely, the only virus at play here is the one that is distributed out onto machines that are sending the spam, and those can be cleaned up one by one as you manage to find original headers of the first message.

Even shutting down the company who owns the phone number won't do much since, most likely, what happened is our email addresses ended up on a list that has since been distributed and companies are buying that list, or paying a third party to send spam on their behalf.

So, the people who own that phone number aren't likely the ones sending the messages.

That said, shutting down that company might help a smidge.

Same here. Their server shows you as their return address and you get "bounced" all their undelivered mail.

Yep - Leif is seeing the same behaviour I do.  Spoofing my address.  It's not a virus on my machine - the "a-holes" got a hold of my email address somehow, and have decided to use it as their "reply-to".  Every single one of the spam mails that get "returned" to me show a different "Name" as the sender -- but they all have my email address as the reply-to.  Can't think of anyway to put a stop to it other than finding the a-holes and making them quit.  Or changing my email address - which would be a big pain.

Similarly, I've received 100's of emails in the last 10 hours listing this number as a contact for a degree.  But in my case, they've used my email as their return address - so the 100's of emails I'm getting are actually failure-to-deliver notices.  Very frustrating - I'm not sending them - but my email is the "reply-to".  Nothing I can do to stop it other than change my email address.
