I just received a call from America Readers Choice (ARC) stating that I was receiving magazines from them since 2010 and that my cc expired in 2011 and they needed to update my information.  I asked why they hadn't contacted me in the last two years about a past due bill and she said because she was new to the department and can not speak about how it was run in the past.  I am a recievables specialist for a fortune 500 company and there is no way that I would be waiting two years to contact anyone about a past due bill.  I tould them to email me the informaiton and the contract I signed to my email address.  I have yet to recieve anything in writing.  I called my cc company to see if there was any charges from 2010/2011 in the amount of $98.47 that I approved.  There is nothing on file for that amount and I have cancelled my card.  What more should I do?  I read a few places that they are in cahoots with the collections agency and if you pay a portion on the bill than they will forgive the rest.  I will not be paying them a dime of mine!

This exact same thing happened to me. They even referenced another instance that happened in 2011. I had the above number contact me (looked it up, they're in North Carolina,) and 307-222-5915 in Montana, same person! They offered me the $100 too since I hadn't received magazines. I looked this stuff up immediately after and as soon as they guy said lifeLock said it was a scam I knew I was screwed. The number that appeared on my bank statement this morning is 18887020969 and I'm hoping when I call back tomorrow, when they said the new accounts are processed, that they can reverse the process. Also have to get a new debit card..

These people call me EVERY DAY telling me that I owe over $1000 in late charges and interest on magazines that I supposedly subscribed to 2 years ago. When I told them I've never received these magazines, nor would I order them because I didn't read those particular magazines, the guy said "oh, well we can change them over to any magazines you prefer" ok...so wait...I apparently owe $1000 but you are willing to switch my subscriptions and continue the service. Give me a break!  I told him a canceled the credit card in question a year ago because of fraudlant activity and NEVER ordered these magazines. He asked when I cancelled it, i said i didn't have to prove I cancelled it if he can't prove I ordered them in the first place. He then said he was going to turn me over to collections I said I wanted copies of any and all documents showing I was responsible for these charges and he wouldn't tell me why he wouldn't send them to me. Just kept talking in circles so i hung up. Does anybody know how to get them to stop calling??

Please, please do. They targeted me weeks after I moved to college, and made my life seem like a financial wreck for months. I had no idea where to turn. If you find them, please please please do as much damage as you possibly can. These people are cold hearted crooks.

The same thing is happening to me. They call to "confirm" the credit card number that they have on file is the correct one. I am not giving anyone my credit card number over the phone! Not in in this day and age and then they threaten to send me to collection's if I don't pay up. Well if they were a legitimate company then I would be receiving invoices in my mailbox. But I have received none of that. If there is a no paper or anything that leaves a paper trail its fraud! And I believe this is a scam! Its suspicious when they demand for money yet you receive nothing in the mail from them.

I received a call from this number moments ago--the first in about 2 months, but in December a man called 3-5 times a DAY almost every day.  I mentioned being on the Do Not Call list and he tried to tell me that I was a customer of theirs and that he was doing me a favor to avoid collections. I never had an agreement with the company he said he was calling from, and I do have a written letter from "Active Periodicals" that indicates I cancelled my magazines and owe the company nothing. The curious thing is that the caller knew some of my credit card information--last 4 digits and the expiration date that was in the past.  I cancelled the card after speaking with my bank, as my concern is that the caller was phishing for the rest of my card information.
Long story short, I filed complaints about America Readers Choice, Your Magazine Source, TC Magazines and Active Periodicals (all the SAME SCAM) to the Better Business Bureau.

This company has no ability to relay an account number, or any proof of relationship/contract/business agreement because no such agreement exists.  I believe the callers are trying to trap people into NEW agreements by pretending it is a reduced rate for an existing contract, when in reality there is no contract.

Be careful. Hang up before you get stressed out.  If you have nerves of steel, stand your ground and they will quickly hangup on you (as the lady who just called me did).

I have Lifelock and contacted them about the same phone number.  864-919-424-2127 and 864-648-3892.  Lifelock checked it out for me.  It's a scam
The "company" told me they have an old credit card number and want my new one.  I have not had a credit card in years!  Since they have been calling me I have spoken to 3 supervisors.  They threatened to send me to the next supervisor.  I threatened them with the FBI.  They are still calling.  I blocked their numbers.  Beware!

Had some 'supervisor' tell me that I was asking too many irrelevant questions because I didnt understand why they were contacting me 3 years after I supposedly signed up for these magazines and they hadn't received payment in all that time. He said it sounded like I wasn't going to pay the balance and that he was going to just send it to collections and if I decided to dispute the charges I would lose the court case because the company never lost a case and I'd be spending more money instead of just paying the bill. He then told me he was talking over me because I was 'a rude costumer and if he gets a rude customer, he's rude back.' When I asked if I had cussed at him or said anything offensive at all, he responded that I was yelling. I then informed him the only reason I was yelling is because he felt it necessary to continually talk over me. When I asked to speak to an actual supervisor who would listen to what I had to say, he said he was a supervisor but the rep who transferred me to him said that he was just an 'investigations rep' not a supervisor. I smell fraud. I told him if he wasn't willing to let me speak to someone else, then the conversation was over. He hung up.

this guy called my job from this number and kept rushing me to give him my card number to pay a balance for magazines I already paid for in one lump sum over 4 years ago.  When I was questioning him about why hes calling who he is and his contact number and supervisor he continuously talked over me and just kept saying maam are you giving it to me or not because Im going to ruin your credit if you dont.  One I said Im giving you nothing at all until I research u who u are and where your calling from he yelled do u want me to f up your credit and sue u?  I said whats your name and he said none of your business and hang up.  I wish these frauds stop calling me job,  Im looking further into this and presssing charges on this recorded call.  Im passing it along to the police

Got a phone call from these people today. They said I owed them for 4  magazines I supposedly ordered back in 2009. They said that if I didn't pay them they would send "my account" to collections. They even have my name misspelled on this said account that they claim I set up with a credit card that I don't even have. They tried to get me to update my information. No way will I give them my info. I told them that they had made a mistake and that I DID NOT want them calling me again. They called me a liar and said that I had opened the account and just didn't want to pay it.

I got to the point where they ticked me off and I called the "supervisor" a lying a-hole. He then called me a c**t. I hung up on him and he called me back from a different # 857-400-3294 and had the nerve to tell me I was a rude customer.

The guy that called me was trying to collect for a magazine order that I had CANCELLED within a few days years ago.  My bank had to cancel my ATM card.  That was a LOT of years ago.  I cancelled everything LEGALLY and made sure I received verification that the cancellation went through properly so this caller IS A SCAM TRYING TO COLLECT MONEY THAT IS NOT OWED.  I tried to be nice but the guy started raising his voice....so I raised mine.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION ON YOURSELF!  I'm very angry at myself for picking up my phone for that number!

This company has been calling me 2 or 3 times a day for a over a month.  Today I finally answered the call  and like others have posted, I never ordered these magazines nor have I received any, not one of the magazines they claim I ordered.  They also said that the credit card number was closed in 2010....Really, so why are the calling me now...I have never received any time of letter or notice that the need an updated credit card number.  I even got switched to a supervisor who kept telling me she was working on her days off to rectify this account and said that she would be turning my account over to the collection department. In the end, I told her do what she has to do...Why should I pay for something I don't have.  And they wait to years to contact me.

This sounds exactly like the calls I have been receiving from this number as well as (857)400-3294 & (575)652-5587. I received 5 calls from these phone numbers in one day! They verified my address as an address that I had not lived at from more than 2 years. They claimed I signed up for the magazine subsription over 3 years ago and that my promotion was finally coming to an end. I was required to pay $47 a month for the next 2 years! Of course I become irate and as for a supervisor. At this point I was literally yelled at by a woman who claimed to be the supervisor and then a moment after I hung up on her, she called me back and said that I was going to pay the $1,000 dolloar that I owe over the next 2 years whether I liked it or not! I dont know who these people are but I can guarentee that they will not see a penny from me!

I am getting the same calls. I was actually yelled at by the woman that claimed to be the supervisor. When I hung up on her, she had the nerve to call me back and tell me that I was going to pay $1000 whether I liked it or not and that I would be contacted by another department. Do they keep calling? I have received 5 calls from them today alone!

This sounds like my story.  The magazine company said that I couldn't cancel the magazines, that I didn't order in the first place, but that they could stop sending the four I was getting and replace them with four I did want.  This was a supervisor I was speaking with.  She told me that I would have to pay for them, so I told her I didn't want them.  She was very insistent.  When I asked her how I started getting the magazines, she said that it was because I had become a member of Smart Shoppers.  I think it all is a scam.  I am going to call the number you put in your message to see if I can get the magazines stopped.  The only thing is that I got stuck with a $41.00 charge on my credit card for saying that I would check out the Idenity Theft ins.  I called and canceled it the same day.  They refused to refund my money.
