been getting calls for years for a Don Gibson. I know a person by that name who lives in the area and he may have had my phone # before I moved down here 10 years ago.. I have given them his number and they still call here.. I did call them back and said I wanted to talk to a supervisor and they got real upset and I never did get to talk to one..I will be going to Mn in july as I used to live there and will talk with Dakota County Prosecuter (Jim Backstrom) about this situation and get something done if I can.

they keep calling me and the person the want does not live here. I think the person may have had my phone number previously. I think they are trying to collect a debt for Guitar Center. Going to call the state Attorney General tomorrow. l am sick of the calls...

In what universe do you live? For 9 years I've been getting calls for the person who last had my number 12 YEARS AGO. The collection agency(s?) will not stop calling no matter what information I give them (I have no idea where the deadbeats are or how to contact them). They may sound polite but in reality they ignore me and continue to make the calls.

Yet another CPC debt collection call for someone we don't know.
They use different caller IDs every time they call and they refuse to stop calling.

The # (952) 944-1620 called me but I missed the call so I returned their call and they were very nice. They asked for my # and I gave it to them, then they asked if I was Chris and I said yes, they said they were calling about an old debt that was charged off in 1999 and if I had any intentions on paying it and I answered honestly, no, and he said okay have a nice day and I told him the same.
| Ann 2012-12-05 20:49:15 Unknown |
All well and good.
Too bad the scum at CPC don't bother following the rules. They just keep changing their caller ID and making the same automated calls day after day, week after week, as evidenced by the creat number of complaints registered here.
Until there are criminal penalties and the people running the companies spend time in jail, these sorts of violations will continue. The trivial fines the FCC levies aren't enough.

I have been getting phone calls as well and they keep hounding about a nonexistent AX bill. I have told them repeatedly that I am not the person they are trying to reach, assuming their trying to reach anyone. I reported it to AX and they said they would look into it, but they keep calling. Does anyone know where they are located?

Hi Folks and happy holidays. Here's a bit of information around this topic. 1) Each state has a statute of limitations on when debt is deemed not having to be paid. However, the law does not state that the collector has to stop calling you - they can still try to collect, even though the statute of limitations has passed. IMPORTANT: If you are close to your statute of limitations, DO NOT pay them anything (even if they settle for 2% of the total debt). Also, do not get into any payment agreement with these types of companies. The 2 aforementioned activities WILL re-set the statute of limitations on the debt (as far as your credit report. EXAMPLE: a) You have 2 years left on the statute of limitations. b) You get into an agreement with them (even verbal if they are recording, which they may do if they tell you ahead of time) or you make a small payment toward the debt. Outcome is that reporting on your credit report will re-start from the day of the above.

I keep getting calls from a debt collector(CPC), for a Deborah(not sure of spelling) Brown. I am not, and have never heard of this person. This person does not, will not and has never lived here. STOP CALLING ME ...IT IS VERY ANNOYING!

As LAMET said here on 9 Feb 2010, it is essentially
a waste of time to file a complaint against CPC
with the Better Business Bureau [BBB]. BBB affiliates
have a reputation of unduly protecting companies,
probably because they are funded by the same
companies whose behavior they supposedly monitor.
A couple of years ago, an eye-opening investigation
of the BBB ratings system by ABC's 20/20 exposed many
corrupt practices by BBB. For example they found out
that two dummy companies received A+ ratings
as soon as they paid a monetary fee to BBB.
Also companies who refused to pay BBB fees
received F ratings. I believe the title of this
investigation was "The Best Ratings Money Can Buy".
In view of this I was not surprised at all to read
that the Minnesota and North Dakota BBB displays
a ridiculously high rating for Central Portfolio Control
Inc [CPC] in spite of the bad business practices
of this company and the fact that they have been
accredited for less than one year.
So I think LAMET is correct in recommending directly
filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission,
bypassing the Minnesota BBB.

Yes, the number is CPC (Central Portforlio Control); called my office fax line number last evening, appears they tried to leave a message but of course the fax tone cut them out. I have had that fax number for over 7 years & they just don't get it. Appears some a T. Jones & a M. Barup have used my fax number in a credit application; not my problem their's. Apparently there is a fourth Credit Bureau out there by the name of CBCInnovis that does not provide current information & have my business office fax number as someone else who appears to be a dead beat from other collection company calls also (Oliphant Financial & Receivables Performance Management to name two). It does do some (BUT LITTLE) good to call them back to have your number removed, it works for a short while but when they get the next batch of debt to collect, they start in again. The best way to get their attention is file a formal complain with the Better Business Bureau in the State they work out of; when they have to waste time responding to complaints it helps take some of their time away from erroneous harassing calls & the complaints stay on record for seven years. .
Bottom line, Collection Agencies are the SCUM bags of the universe, they just don't care & continue to harass honest people whom do pay their bills; my credit score is well over 800 so doubt I'm the kind of individual who would have any outstanding unpaid debt.

I even have do not call and they get around that too.

Incessant calls, never heard of the individual they are pursuing, have owned land line they are calling over 12 years. You have to pretend you are the person they are looking for just to speak to a live person, as going the proper way gets you disconnected (21 out of 21 attempts...EVERY time).
Once you get to a "person" you can talk til you're blue in the face...does not appear my number is ever coming off their list!

never give private info over the phone, dont you know about identity theft and phone scams, anybody can call and say they are a bill collector, but only to be fishing for security info into trying to trick you into what ever they can get..

The debt they are probably calling about is not valid but that doesn't stop them or the original company probably the dentist collection for dentures I don't have or extractions done by someone else. Writing letters doesn't help either.

Here is the problem with debt collectors. Because they are wealthy they are able to purchase pools of debt at pennies on the dollar. They not only expect they are entitled to collect all of the outstanding balance they want late fees, interest and what other BS fee they can add. On top of that, they want to tax deduct the loss they manufacture from there books. This is the classic double dip. Its all about the money. What has happened to the USA? Debt collectors, Bankers, Wall streeters....... sooner or later the common man will run out of money..... then what are you going to take?

I just got a phone call from them requesting payment from a pay day loan they claimed i had thru WoodForest Bank which is not even a pay day loan.WoodForest Bank is a bank that usually operates out of Walmart...not a pay day loan. When i asked them to send me something thru mail, they claimed they had sent me something 3 times before which is a lie. They don't want to send you anything thru mail because then its illegal.

THESE PEOPLE HAVE BOUGHT YOUR OLD UNPAYED DEBT FOR PENIES ON THE DOLLAR. LET THEM TAKE YOU TO COURT. THEY CAN'T PROVE YOU OWE THE DEBT & THEY CAN'T PROVE THEY OWN YOUR ORIGINAL ACCOUNT.
FIGHT THEM! YOU HAVE RIGHTS!
| Really Clark? 2012-06-14 19:32:06 Unknown |
Pretty easy to resolve. If you are not the person they are looking for, call them back and kindly tell them so. I just did and the lady was totally cool and removed my number. Now, if they call again for the same guy, it won't be so nice.

This looks to be a form of "War Dialing" (coined from the movie "War Games").
We have received calls for multiple persons (names) from multiple collection company's at our number.
We have an unlisted/unpublished number and are on the national do not call registry.
As we do not have exact numbers (persons, company, etc) I could only do a rough estimate of the odds of receiving these calls. The ratio is similar to those found on a lottery ticket, I mean this literally.
This means there is an unseen factor in receiving the calls, leading to the theory of "War Dialing" an area code or prefix in search of "hits" for the person they are looking for.
Then consider if multiple collections companies were to coordinate their efforts (it would be to their advantage) of dialing and "hits".

Called 2x this morning. Did not leave message the first time. I answered on the second call and the male voice asked how many income earners were living at my address. He didn't even ask if I was who he thought I was. Just "hello, how many income earners live here?" and "can you verify your address?".
So I am going to tell some non-person what my address is??
