I let the answering machine answer and they hung up. Turned the caller ID off my cell phone and dialed the number (in case they had caller ID) but it said "we're sorry but the number you reached has been disconnected."

I have received several phone calls from companies running various different scams. I receive a call at least 3 times a week sometimes more.

When I did a search for the numbers I received calls from, I realized that there are literally thousands of numbers that these fraudulent companies are using so I started gathering information. Since I am on the National Do Not call list, I report the number every time I get one of these calls, but it doesn?t prevent me from getting more calls.

The reason these people are so persistent and continue to call myself and so many others on a regular basis, is because there are people who fall for it.  Now, there are several reasons people fall for scams. Many scam artists prey on the elderly. This is a low blow. These are people who have worked hard to acquire what they have and are now at a time in their lives where they should be able to enjoy their retirement and it?s scumbags like this who come along and wipe them out, sometimes leaving them penniless. Others fall for some of the scams because they have fallen down on their luck and scams like this act as if they can provide some financial relief. Some pull at our heart strings and act as if they are collecting donations for worthy causes, such as funds to purchase supplies for cancer patients, local police, and fighters. All of these are designed to prompt you to provide your financial information.

This is what I've gathered so far by looking at the websites that pertain to these scams. Just so we're clear, I'm only reposting information from other posts I've seen regarding these scams. I've filed a complaint on the Do Not Call list website. The information to do that is posted below. If someone knows a better way to report this please take the information that I've posted here and any additional information that I might have missed and include it with the report. I will be posting this message on all the websites I can find that have to do with this scam and as I find more information I will add it to the post so it won?t necessarily be exactly the same each time. As far as I?m concerned you can copy and paste this on another site to warn others.

I have broken this message up into parts to make it easy to gather information and report the calls.
Part I. Report the call:
Here are ways to report the calls that you recieve:
1. AT&T Annoyance Call Beaureu: 800-348-8727 (for AT&T customers only)

2. FTC
ftc.gov
1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261
https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01

3. Do Not Call list
https://www.donotcall.gov
https://www.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx

4. Call trace by dialing *57

5. Also you can block each number by pressing *60

6. FCC http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints_tcpa.html click where it says Form 1088 and it will bring you to this link:
https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/consumer.do

7. Info about TCPA and how to sue the people who have been calling you:
http://www.panix.com/~eck/telemarket.html
http://www.tcpalaw.com/free/
http://www.tcpalaw.com/lawyers.htm
http://www.killthecalls.com/
http://www.tcpatools.com/
http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifehack/you-can-sue-telemarketers.html
http://www.panix.com/~eck/telemarket.html
http://www.junkfaxes.org/

8. Some of these numbers that are used in this scame are listed with Bell South. You can file a report with them by sending an e-mail to info@connectbellsouth.com.

9. File a police report and then call the Verizon Unlawful Call Center at 800-518-5507 with the report number.

10. If you have Comcast call screening is included in your package free of charge. You need to press *60 and follow the prompts. (This may or may not be automatically be offered by other phone service providers. You need to contact your provider to find out.)

11. Report it on all of the following websites: http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Calls.aspx/3217793962 (replace the end number with the number that called you), http://800notes.com/Area-Code.aspx/1-000 (replace the 0s at the end with the area code of the number that called you and then find the specific number and click on it, it will bring you to a board where others have reported the same number and you can leave your own report), http://www.callercomplaints.com/SearchResult.aspx?Phone=321-779-3962 (replace the end phone number with the phone number that called you), http://whocalled.us/lookup/3217793962 (replace the end phone number with the phone number that called you).

If anyone has a better way to report this, please list it.

There is a woman who calls herself ?sue? who claims she will teach you how to sue these people for a fee. suetelemarketers@yahoo.com. I provide this for informational purposes only. I personally wouldn?t go this route and would advise others to be wary of this, it sounds like another scam.

There?s another person who is claiming that they want to file a lawsuit against the company First Investors Financial SVCS who he / she believes is the company that is making these calls and asks people to send any info to their e-mail address: bustunsolicitedtelemarketers@yahoo.com. I?d be wary of this as well. There are e-mail scams that phish for personal information, you don?t want to get caught up in that.

Part II. The Scams:
They are running at least 9 different scams:
(These scams are designed to get you to provide your financial and personal information: ie credit & debit card numbers, bank account numbers, social security numbers, addresses, Vehicle Identification numbers, ect. NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR FINANCIAL AND PERSONAL INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE TO SOMEONE WHO CALLED YOU! No legitimate company will ask you to do this. If you think the company will provide you a service that will help you, then at least get a number from them where you can call them back. If they cannot provide one then they are fraudulent.)
1. Offering to lower APR on credit cards
2. Selling pills
3. Requesting Donations from Cancer Patients
4. Requesting Donations for local Police (don?t feel guilty for not donating, if you search for information regarding this scam on www.google.com this scam will you find out that it?s a scam being run all over the country and the money DOES NOT go to help police.)
5. Requesting Donations for local Firemen (same as above, these funds DO NOT go to help firefighters.)
6. Offering to extend car warranties (NEVER GIVE YOUR VIN NUMBER OUT OVER THE PHONE TO SOMEONE WHO HAS CALLED YOU! Thieves can steal your car by using VINs to obtain duplicate keys through auto dealerships. http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/vin.asp.)
7. Offering free vacations
8. Confirm delivery of telephone directories
9. They are calling and leaving messages on cell phones stating they got your number from a friend and leaving different internet handles and e-mails, such as: 2cute4u94.matchjump.net, butterflyd34 matchjump.net, 2cute4, butterflyd34, psychocutie_p080.matchjump.net, psychocutie_p080.love-only.com, onewolf624, lonewolf624.matchjump.net, psychocutie_p080, psychocutie_p080.datepit.net, maryloubell97@love-jump.net, lady_sohappy.love-jump.net, psychocutie_p080 from lovejump.net, psychocutie_p080.date-line.net, Teeny4, mailover7.box-o-love.com, date-magik.com, teeny4, teeny4.matchjump.net, bludevigirl_822K.matchjump.net, kinky0909, kinky0909.matchjump.net, hope0707.box-o-love.com, BluDevilGirl_822k, ect. (Again there are too many of these for me to list them all)

If you got a call with a different scam please list it.

PART III. The phone numbers you may receive calls from:
There are far too many numbers associated with these scams than can be listed. They use numbers from almost every area code and some erroneous ones. For many of these numbers when you dial them, you get a recording stating that the number is disconnected or no longer in service. Some of those recordings sound legitimate, but others if you listen closely, sound fake. You can often hear voices and other noises in the background. There is a website you can go to and record your own phony ?This number is disconnected recording? so that pretty much answers how they did that. Here?s the link: www.payphone-directory.org/sounds.html.

I am listing some of the numbers in order to create a cross reference for when a search is made for one or more of these numbers:  In some cases the call may come through as Unavailable and the number will be all zeros (000-000-0000).
000-212-4375
207-439-9039 (this is someone?s personal number and the company is cloning it so it shows up on the caller ID)
207-498-0741 (this one has also been noted with the international code 44-207-498-0741)

Part IV. The people you may receive calls from:
The people who call go by several names:
1. Heather
2. Shantel
3. Jessica
4. Jerry (a female)
5. Angel (also female)
6. Thomas Ellis
7. Dana
8. Tiffany
9. Linda

Again these are the names I've collected so far. If anyone has received one of these calls from someone giving a name different than the ones listed above please post it.

Part V: Possible company names, locations, and working call back numbers:
Many times people stay on the line and try to extract information from representatives to see if they can find out exactly who is making these calls. Representatives sometimes provide company names, websites, locations, and call back numbers. Here is a list of some of the companies that have been reported. I contacted 2 of these companies and spoke to someone at  http://www.allaboutu-vacations.com/ and First Investors Svcs https://www.fifsg.com/default.aspx they both claim to not have anything to do with this scam. I don?t have anyway to verify it or not. If anyone has a way of researching any of these companies to either expose them as fraudulent, or prove that they are not associated with these scams, then please post your findings.

Part VI. Specific posts:
Someone calling herself Tiffany who claims to work for the company that lowers interest rates left a message as a response to one of my posts. She did not however state the name of the company nor leave any kind of call back number.

Here?s a copy of response:

Here?s a post claiming that the calls are in regards to the PDC and claiming that these people are simply trying to verify delivery of phone directories.  Here is a copy of the post and the website where it can be found.
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-303-280-8689
Product Development Corporation - 21 Aug 2007
Product Development Corporation (PDC) is a national distributor of telephone directories.  PDC utilizes phone calls to confirm delivery of telephone directories.  PDC does not leave the survey questions on an answering machine.  The Federal Do-Not-Call legislation does not appy to organizations that are not soliciting (selling or marketing something). PDC is not soliciting.

PDC uses delivery verification through phone calls because of the cost and quality of this quality control method.  This type of quality control process is done by all the major companies in the distribution of telephone directories.  Having said this, PDC is aware and respects that there are individuals that would not like to be part of this type of survey.  As a result, PDC has created its own internal Do-No-Call list.  If you or anyone else would like to have their phone number removed from our calling lists, please email the phone number you wish to be removed to DoNotCall@teampdc.com.

I would like to reiterate that delivery verification calling is a quality control standard in our industry and that each company that does this type of quality control is responsible for their own list.  As such, even though PDC will no longer contact all numbers that are requested to be on our DoNoCall list, you may be contacted by others that do not have this capability.

Product Development Corporation

Part VII. Where to find more information:
Here are some of the websites with lists of all the reported numbers. The sites go by area code. This is not a complete list below. In fact it?s only a fraction of the number of sites that are out there dedicated to collecting data and filing a report. I am still compiling this list. If you have received a call from an area code not on this list, please copy one of the links below and replace the last 3 digits with the area code of the number that called you and you?re sure to find the number on the list and notes from several other people who got calls from the same number. You can then file a report.

Part VIII. In Closing
I have done a lot of research on this and will continue to do so, however, I?ve realized I can not possibly go through all the notes and gather all the relevant information by myself.
There are thousands of these numbers and notes from each one. One thing is clear, they are several scams being run.
My goal is to cross reference all the searches and ultimately create a bulletin about these scams to post on various different websites ie: craigslist.com, myspace.com, ect. The reason for this is to spread the information and knowledge to as many people so they know about the scam and know not to fall for it. If enough people refuse to provide information maybe their operation will fall apart and the calls will stop.
This message is constantly being edited and changed, feel free to add whatever information you can and re-word it in a more comprehensive manner if you like and repost it.
Thank you.

Does this machine really work? After the purchase, is there a monthly cost?

These numbers that keep calling I would label as telephone HARASSMENT.  You would think the paying public would have some rights.  They phone companies take our money but do not really service their public.

Have been getting a number of daily calls from 954-752-3816 and 'out of area' (letting caller id identify them).  Today I answered the 'out of area' call and got the urgent warning about my credit card and lowering my credit rate.  Hang up and report them.

Read the above post by ritab - 11 Oct 2007.....Spend a hundred bucks and NEVER be bothered by telemarketers, political campaigns, scammers, collection agencies, or anyone else that you don't want to hear from....This is truely an amazing piece of technology that will give you back your privacy...(and a permanent smirk knowing that you have the upper hand on these b*****ds)

Sorry, crappy LAW, BUT IF THEY HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU ie. BANK OF AM AND YOU HAVE A CREDIT CARD OR ACCOUNT WITH B OF A, THEY ARE ALLOWED TO CONTACT YOU. I TRY TO IGNORE THEIR CALLS, BUT THEY ARE TRULY PERSISTENT AND CALL BOTH ON MY CELL AND LAND LINE

Was on a call when the 954-752-3816 call beeped through.  Didn't recognize, so didn't respond...went unanswered.  Typed it in to Google to check area code and was very glad when I read the above posts that I'd left it alone.  FCC has no box for unanswered soliciting calls on their form.

Computer call around 11:40 AM EST, Nov 7, 2007. Voice said "Hi. This is Heather from (I think) Credit Card Services..." etc. etc. Caller ID gave a number that I think started with 866, and said Florida, but when I used *69 (a Verizon service) to get the number, it gave me the 954 one above.

Received call from same phone number.  Didn't recognize and let answering machine pick up.  Of course no message left and I have a theory, if you want to talk to me bad enough, you will leave me a message!

Just received this call on my cell phone.  My phone was in my pocket, while I was driving.  So, I fumbled answering it, and missed the call.  Looks like my lucky day!  Glad I found this listing for the number.  I certainly won't be answering it in the future!

Thanks for the community!

(954) 752-3816, Coral Sprin, Fl, 10/02/07, 2:05PM

I answered the phone.  An automated message said something about my automobile warranty expiring and to press "1" to get information and a quote for a new warranty.  I pressed one and was immediately connected to a woman who said "You are interested in a warranty."  I said "No, I just have a message for your management--I will be reporting you to the FCC for violating do-not-call laws."  She answered, "Alright, no problem" and hung up.

I just got anoother call today with the recorded message stating that this was an urgent call from my credit card company and that there was no problem but I should call immediatetly to get lower rates and something about this was my last chance.  I have received this same phone message several times in the last few months (seems like it's been at least once a week)and I usually just hang up. The previous call was received a week ago and this timee I chose their option to press "2" to be removed from their list. Then I got the call again today, caller ID showed the number as
"954-752-3816", and location as "Coral Sprin, FL".  I thought I would let them know I'm on the National "No Call List", so I chose the option to talk to someone.  Got a series of clicks and then disconnected. I called the caller ID number, got the this number has beeen disconnected message.
Went online and filed a complaint with the National "No Call List". I'll also file one with the FCC and anyone else that might help to stop this.  If there is any legitimacy to the caller, their approach is wrong.  If no legitimacy, then it's criminal and they should be stopped.

I've been reading all the comments and it just ocurred to me that those calls could be a way to steal your phone number in order to sell the long distance sevice on long distance calling cards, using your phone service carrier, so if you answer they will get it, and if you dont maybe they dont get it, I have cancelled my L.D. service, and instead use my cell phone which somehow is out of reach for them.  But normally I ignore the annoying calls.  If youi do not recognize the number : Do not answer.

I believe this is the first time they called me. Guess more will come in now. Did not leave a message.
I too wish I had a way to mess with them.

If you want to report this number and call to the FCC you can do it online at : http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints_tcpa.html

It helps if you document each time they call and whether or not you spoke to anyone and what was said. I started keeping a call log of every call and the date and time.

Same as most everyone else.

*just* received a call from this number (left to be screened by the machine, of course), and apparently, they not only do the "This is an urgent call about your credit card.  Your card is not in any trouble, but we can offer you better rates, blah, blah" (which I've also gotten before), they also do the "Our records show that the warranty on your vehicle is about to expire, for further coverage, please blah, blah"
I've gotten this call about 10 times in the past month, and each time I pressed 2 to remove my number... which is of course bogus

Called saying there is nothing wrong with our credit card but they can get us so much better interest rates.  Press 1 for hang up and 2 for operator.  I love to give these people fits for calling a no call #.  Pressed two and never got anyone finally hung up.  I wish these crooks would get a life and leave honest hard working people alone.

Thank you for the messages everyone, I received a call from that number that went to the answering machine at 1:39 PM PST. I decided to do a Google search on the number and found this site. I am on the national do not call registry but recently I have been getting 2-3 telemarketer calls from different telemarketers daily. It is beyond reporting as I would have to spend a lot of time fighting what appears to be a losing battle.

Sad to say, I simply do not answer my phone anymore, in fact, I have turned the ringer off - want to talk about being terrorized in your own home!

I received a call from this number 954-752-3816 10-23-07 at 2:33 pm. I thought it might be a relative but was busy and didn't answer. Today I called it back and it said it was a disconnected number. Really weird.

Chantal is at it again this morning... I just let my answering machine do the dirty work and no message was left.  Just as I do for all of the long distance calls that I do not know the name on the caller ID.
