I was wondering what excuse they'd have to call a Do Not Call number.

Caller ID said 971-213-1911, Sherwood OR.
No message left.

These people called my mother phone with an opening " we see from your electric bill that you are entitled to a 7percent saving because you have not been delinquent (etc. etc)" paraphrase.  Then ask me to quote to them our electric bill account for "security reasons". Then I said no then told them that they were "slamming".  They place people under the belief that they are already a customer of their company, by saying they reading from a customer electric bill and then asking for "verification for security reasons".  The reasons they want the account number is so that they could "slam" your account from your current electric company to theirs.  See :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_slamming   . For slamming (  Slamming can also occur when someone is invited to take a survey or enter a contest. The contests or surveys are usually general in nature, and the participant is unaware that the "small print" on their entry is an authorization to switch their telephone service to another carrier.
Another common sales pitch leading to slamming involves misrepresentation of the slammers as account agents of the victim's current carrier, offering better rates or a free upgrade to existing service. Slammers using this pitch may even operate by sending bills attached to the victim's existing carrier's bills, further perpetrating the illusion of an upgrade to existing service rather than an unauthorized service switch."

Have had several calls on my caller id from this number, no messages left.

Have called me several times as well as my elderly mother.  Same voice each time. They call back despite being told we are on the Do Not Call register.  Asks for the person that pays the electric bill...Stop it!

Wanted to speak to the person who pays the electric bill.  These people came to my door twice late last summer.  They are fast-talkers and they ask to see a copy of your energy bill. They talk in circles and you cannot figure out what it is they want!  There was a big story on the news about them.  It's a scam.  They look at your bill (IF you show it to them...I did not!) and get whatever info they need and end up changing your energy service (somehow!) without your knowledge or permission.  That little door-to-door tactic didn't work too well for them so now they're making phone calls.  I've had at least three and I have TOLD them to take my number off their list and to NOT call me again.  (I am on the DNC list but THAT doesn't work!!)
