Claimed to be "Visa Card Services", and could lower the interest rate on my Visa.  When I said I don't have a Visa, he said he could lower the interest rate on my Mastercard.  I said "I thought you were calling from Visa, he said actually it is a company called EDR or Easy Debt Reduction in Toronto and works as a "liason" between Visa and Mastercard, LOL.  Sounded like a nice young chap, said his name was Chester, and maybe he even believed he was doing legitimate business.  This is the oldest scam around however, where they get you to read off your credit cards info so they can consolidate them on a low interest card.  They prey on people who owe too much and it sounds like a lifeline.  In reality, they take one of the cards that they can charge a fee to, $199 or $299 or $399, something like that (it doesn't matter to the person, because they will save that in the first month on interest charges they are told), and then the scammed person receives an "information package" about how to manage their spending and credit and a list of banks/financial services that offer low interest cards (for which they probably wouldn't qualify).  In the end, the poor rube is further in debt.  Credit card companies are familiar with the scam and will start a chargeback right away, but that takes a few months to get the money back.
