they are debt collectors

Got a voice mail the other day from a automated voice saying; "could the person responsible for billing account (My name) please call 1300305212 and quote reference number (.......) for an urgent matter before 8pm". And that was it... no name, no company, nothing!

Tried calling but it didn't work, said this number was not available from my area or mobile phone.
WTF!
Scam??

I received an automated voicemail to call 1300305212 and quote a reference number.  I did and they advised they were Dun & Bradstreet (debt collectors).  I then hung up and called Dun and Bradstreet from the number on their website, sure enough I had a bill from 18 months ago they were chasing but as I had moved house I hadnt seen it.  It was all legit and I am pleased to have it sorted.

this is not a scam, they are a debt collector and credit reporting bureau called Dun & Bradstreet

would like to know who is the company that is asking me to call them on this number

Check before ignoring - I found out the text message was legitimate after doing my own checking.

I also had a txt message to "call 1300305212 immediately to discuss an important matter" saying it was from Dun & Bradstreet. I then checked the Dun & Bradstreet web site & called them on their web site contact number quoting the ref no. It turned out it was legitimate for a bill from Origin Energy outstanding from my previous address. To be absolutely certain I had this confirmed by calling Origin Energy.

I got please call 1300305212 imediately to discuss and urgent matter, qoute (referance number) when you call. Thank You,  Dun and Bradstreet

I have received letters from these people claiming I owe money from a provider I have never used. I have also responded to their letters saying the same. I have been receiving between 1 and 5 private number phone calls a day, on answering i hear either nothing or 'your call is important to us, please stay on the line'. If i dont say anything on answering the phone, the call will eventually drop out. When it goes to the recording evenually someone picks up and asks for my refence number, not that i know who has called me (private number if you remember), so i tell them to nick off. SometimesI play nice and they ask for my name, address, date of birth, phone number, etc. so they can log into my account to see what bill is for, again, i refuse to give any personal details to a voice on the phone, what's coming next - asking for visa card numbers and pin...
Now these people are contacting other members of my family, so far they have phoned my son, my brother and my parents to see where i am. Sounds like when Mrs Kelly was put in jail because she wouldnt say / didnt know where Ned was..
Come on D&B, I have never been with the provider you claim I have a bill with.
Further to that, as a previous poster has correctly entered, your company purchases debt meaning these people on this forum dont have debt with any provider, they have a debt (supposedly) with you... Also remember folks that D&B would purchase your debt for a rock bottom price, say the bill was for $100, they might buy the debt from the original provider for $40, with the other $60 being profit for the company. This is why they are not supposed to add little administration cost, etc. to the bill they present to the client. Also these little extra charges are tax deductable for the D&B company.

The staff at the call center were very rude. I was unable to find out what the issue was because I couldn't confirm my address as their records of my address were severely out of date ( >4 years). I managed to confirm the suburb they had me under, that was all. I thought it was possibly a scam so I told them that they are not to call me again and the operator threatened me that the company will call me three times a day, every day until the matter is resolved.
I am really stressed and upset as it was my belief that all my debts are in order, but now there's a possibility that I owe money somewhere (I did miss a mobile payment with Vodaphone recently but I paid it a few days later, surely that can't be it?).
I have sent an email to the real D&B to find out whether they contact people out of the blue like that or not.

It is really weird considering I only got this mobile number 2 years ago and their records of my address are >4 years... There is no possibility of anything I should be in debt to that is linked to that number, otherwise they should have my current address that the mobile is registered to, right?..

Got a text yesterday, got a letter today. We changed our power and gas service provider,I think it was 6 months ago.
They want $30 and have used the correct customer no.
The letter states thatthe are acting on behalf of our former power provider and claim that our account is severely delinquent.
If that is the case, why have I never got a bill from my former power provider???
I will ring the provider tomorrow. It doesn't make sense to me that I have never received a bill for this $30.00

Had received a "telegraph" in a form of a mail to my mailbox, asking me to call this number in regards to a urgent matter from Kassandra... What urgent matter, if it would be urgent they could atleast give a hint what it is...

Here is my storry that i think ties in with this "telegraph".

"This company" will claim that you have a outstanding debt from x energy or phone company (in my case - True Energy) and will harass you to pay it. The problem is, in my case this was not a genuine debt. This company have been calling me for a year or so now trying to extract my DOB, address and all details possible. Funny enough, if i relay had a debt with any company, they would have these details already. They wil call you in regards to a important matter" but will not tell you what the matter is.. not until you will go though series of information probing questhttp://whocallsme.com/~sys~/captcha/VdlkUxJmH2Uions.
I called True Energy and asked them if i had any outstanding bill/debt with them and... no i haven't. Ofc i haven't had a outstanding bill with True Energy, i was with them at that time!

What happens is that either this company obtains your details somehow OR buys.... that's right... BUYS your debt from x company. The problem is that while it is legal to sell debt, the deter is legally obligated to pay that debt only to the company/individual he has debt with. So in other words, the Debt collecting agency that has bought (not been hired) your debt, has no legal right to collect debt from you, UNTIL YOU WILL AGREE THAT YOU ARE A DETER TO THEM. That's why all of their calls are recorded, and they will use every single trick and obscurity possible to prove that you owe the debt that they claim you have.

My advice is :DONT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR DETAILS. When they call you, leave the phone on and put it against a speaker playing Queens "Another one bites the dust".

You can ask your friend to call on your behalf (from not your number) to opt-out of their services. If the company will not allow you to opt out (if they will be rude, or bluntly uncooperative - then its a scam).

Remember, that in most cases these Debt Collection agencies have no grounds to pursue your debt. If its legit then a Debt Collection Agency will send you a letter, quoting you, the company you have debt with and your customer number that you had with that company. All Debt Collecting Agencies absolutely have to provide you with evidence/paperwork when requested to prove their claim.

This is a totally legit debt collection agency. I had a debt from a previous rental address with the energy company AGL. I'd forgotten to pay my last electricity bill when I moved out.

Pls donot share any personal information wheenever you get any call from 1300 305 212 , its scam....they ask you to verify address , they actually are taking your information. They would say call is regarding personal matter settlement

I asked for his postal address , he said melbourne , i asked given complete address , he sai st kilda road , you will find it.....i said ,,,given me complete address....he said give me second , i myself have to search :-))

He then got annoyed when i asked him too many questions instead of giving him info...he said well i need to call the registered member of this phone

D&b is a real place my ex friend works there I only have to out standing payments and there though a dif company I had a falling out with her now I get a text msg from her work saying the same as every one else there rude people that work there and all do drugs and not only that they don't care how there workers look and don't really need and degree to work there a brain dead monkey can work there

I recieved a call from a private number and the guy told me he was from D&B and asked for my information. I was hesitant to give it so requested a reference number and a phone number to call back. He told me to call 1300 305 212 which I searched and found lots of people claiming it was a scam. After called the number on the D&B website (132333) I was told that the 1300 number if for collections relating to water and electricity accounts. Turns out I had an outstanding electricity bill from my last rental property. Not a scam ppl! Just lots of different numbers for different areas of debt collection.

I said no way he said then we can't continue until I give it to him I just hung up

Yes! I got that voice message also and a text with the same info. Is this is a debt collector company, it shouldn't be relevant to me considering I am 15 and do not have a company. I'm on a prepay phone plan fort goodness sakes!!
Did anything else happen to anyone who did not respond? Did they continue to follow up?

Got a voice message with a ref # to call urgently 1300305212 by 8pm. They kept calling and one day I talked to David of Dun & Bradstreet - they don't have surnames there.

When I said I would call the police the guy just hang up.

Yes got exactly the same message.  Why don't they leave a voice message to explain what it is in regards to????  Or, a letter would be more professional that a TXT.

Told to call this number via txt and to quote a ref: number

"Please contact Karen urgently on 98283500 urgently and quote ref: # before 9pm EST. To not receive SMS from D&B reply with N to this message. Thankyou."

I am seriously confused!!!!

I called the number to find out that it's Dun & Bradstreet, apparently I had an old outstanding power bill for $71.

The number in the SMS went through to a hold message- I suggest that you call the Debt Collection Centre on 1300 669 056.

Had a sms saying the following tonight,

Please call Karen at DNB on 1300305212 quoting #lalalala regarding amount owing on your account before 9pm EST. Reply N to opt out. Thank you.

I rang and Indian call centre and they said I had a debt and that they needed my name, address and date of birth. I hanged up on them.
