Yesterday 6/7/13 I received a call from "Mike", Windows tech support, with an India accent telling me someone from South America is trying to hack my computer.  Wanted me to open various programs to fix my errors problems etc.  I looked at my caller id and saw "name not available" which was weird..I'm also unlisted so how he get my #?  Turns out that several years back I signed up on the "no call" for telemarketers calling me. Seems they may have gotten my number from that list.
I was on my way to work and couldn't talk but he insisted that he could fix my problems..wanted to call me after work..next day..or even two days later..such a nice dude wanting to be so helpful!

This scam has been going around for awhile...you do the work for them and THEY get inside your computer.

Hey Mike, maybe get a real job..

6/6/2013 Hello!  I had the same thing happen to me yesterday!  And I fell for it too!  Robert had my computer's IP address, which seemed to make it more legit.  Do you know if they copied any of your computer files, while they were "fixing" your computer?  Have you had any problem with identity theft?
Since then, I've signed myself and my husband up for protectmyid.com.

Telemarketer
They have been calling every day for two weeks, in April 2013,  I was scammed last year just as described by Andrea.  They sold me a licence for one year for "trust port protection", and it seemed to scan and protect like they promised, but the expiry date was for 6 months away. I wonder what information they stole from me, aside from just money.

This # called me on 4-22-2013.  "Robert" ( Indian accent )said he was calling from microsoft tech support to let me know that my computer was being hacked into.  He asked me about the automatic error reports I was sending to microsoft. I did admit to sending a few this week. Told me to look in my event viewer and i saw tons of critical errors, warnings, and the like.  I freaked out! He told me to run my anti virus & spyware and even offered to help me via remote access. STUPID ME!! I allowed it. He went through my computer and noticed my microsoft license was expired and I had NO protection!  It just cost $200 for 2 yrs, $250 for 5 yrs, or $350 for lifetime license that could be transferred to any 1 computer I owned after this one.  I didnt have $350, but told him I could do $150 now & the rest friday.  He checked with his "supervisor" and it would be fine. We immediately went to pay pal to make a pymt so he could begin "working" on my corrupted computer.  This was between 8-9pm.  I thought the clean-up was done & I went to bed. At 5:45 am the next day I had a sick gut feeling something was wrong. Googled microsoft support scam...there it was...black & white..!!  Im now going through the real clean up of accounts. Not sure if I will get my $150 back, but Pay Pal & my bank are all over it. LESSON LEARNED!!  Microsoft, or any anti virus company will NEVER call you at home to tell you that your computer has an issue.  You call them and the will help you figure it out. P.S. go and UNCHECK the remote access in your computer secutity..not sure how much info they got overnight..
