i think more like another company  collecting for them.   Maybe they'll take 80%  and 20%  for the charity.      these  companies use the charity as a cover to  make these hone calls and give very little back to the charities.  There's one co.  in Mich .  that keep s calling for different charities.  Enough Enough already with this garbage.   If it's a legit charity then they would or should  know better to use  a legit  area code.

A call from this number to which we do not respond will send a "line busy" sound to our answering machine.  The sound is loud and will over-ride or delete our other messages on the answering machine.  The sound last for (???) about a minite or two  or until we turn the phone off.  It will end by saying "Thank you".

As mentioned above, these calls appear to be coming from a charity -- the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago.  

Pick up the phone.  Tell them to stop calling you immediately.  Get the name of the person.  Write down his name, the date, and the time of the request.  

If they call you back after that, then you can report them to www.donotcall.gov.  Charities are exempt from the do not call list, but they must stop calling you when you tell them to stop.

I would also make a report of any future infractions to the charity itself.  It is in their best interest to know that 1) their system is showing a strange, truncated number on some people's Caller ID systems and 2) their solicitors are ignoring your do not call request and are harassing you (which could result in a lawsuit against them).

At least they gave me almost a month between calls.

Some Caller ID systems (including mine) display this number as "185-596-8366" with "out of area" or "unknown name."  When we don't answer the strange number, the callers typically hang up without leaving a message, but they call back repeatedly and people think they are scammers.  

Now I understand that the last number (2) is not being shown on our Caller ID.  The number we should be seeing is 1-855-968-3662 and that is the number for The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago (a legitimate charity).

You can go directly to their website to donate if you don't feel comfortable giving out your credit card number over the phone.  

If you do not want to donate, and if you do not want them to call you any more, you can tell them to STOP calling and they have to stop.  The same is true with any charity.

Make a note of the date and time of this request so, if they call back after that, you can report them to www.donotcall.gov.

This number called us back again this morning.  The caller claimed to be "Richard with the Epilepsy Foundation."  I asked him to please remove us from their calling list.  He was very nice, apologized multiple times, and said he would do so immediately.

The Epilepsy Foundation is a legitimate charity headquartered in Maryland which describes itself as a "national voluntary agency."  I have no idea why they would use a fake number with a non-existent area code for their donation solicitation calls.  Also, why does the Caller ID say "Out of Area"?  It just doesn't make any sense.

Next time they call, answer it and ask them to stop calling.  If they are a legitimate charity, they have to abide by this request.  Make a note of the date and time so, if they call back after that, then you can report them to www.donotcall.gov.

they called again the day after I posted the above message.  I didn't pick up so I still don't know what these fools (crooks) are calling about.  Probably illegal telemarketers who can't figure out that 185 is not a valid area code.

Holy moly.  They must really want to talk to you.  I only got one call from these idiots.  Isn't there a way for your phone company to block this number since they're clearly harassin you?

April 15,2012 got the same number to call me,came up unknown on caller id, I didn't answer either

Me too.  All we can do is continue to report these spoofing crooks to www.donotcall.gov.

Have received at least two calls per day from this number over the last week.

What a bunch of spoofing idiots -- they cannot even fake a valid area code!  Needless to say, they will be reported to www.donotcall.gov.

I keep getting call from this number and have no idea who it is

National Epilepsy Association ... wanting clothing donations ...

Suddenly I'm getting calls from this fake number. They started 2/2/12 and then 2/6, 2/8, 2/9, and 2/12. 185 is an invalid area code. I don't plan on answering this caller.
