That's the phone number of a van ru credit corporation representative.

Just got one today.  I think they started out in recent months by having a recorded message try to get me to give out my information.  They called me at work.  Said it was regarding a debt. I threatened to sue for calling me at work.  Caller responded by telling me to have a good one.  I immediately looked up the number and found this blog.  Thanks for validating that this was some kind of scam.  I really appreciate it.

There is no name given, but the number calls often.  
On this site several different names are given.  ron, Spiffy, noneyourfvckin business, S. lopez, Billy and
San Francisco Bay Area Resident.

This is Van Ru Credit Corporation, the collectors for the Department of Education. They are harrassing me about once a week or so at this point. Calling and when I pick up, you here "click" as they hang up. Can't talk to them about it if they aren't on the phone. The one time we got a person, I wasn't even home, my husband answered. The lady on the end decided to have a conversation with him about this(very illegal as he is not me) and finished off by threatening him.

This guy just called and was extremely rude and verbally abusive.

Trying to get me to confirm the last 4 digits of my social security number. This time the number came from (201) 297-4336, and their name was supposedly Mynor Gomez from the Van Ru Credit corporation. After I aksed him how he could live with himself by scamming people, he gave me their 'corporate number; (888) 837-8972. I've confirmed this is a bogus number. I said "Why did you call from (201) 297-4336". He said "Because I'm calling from Chicago". I said "well, that's your next problem, (201) area code is New Jersey."

i am constantly getting this number on caller id as a unknown caller. irritating as hell.

They are a Debt Collecting Company - they are a***oles who have bought defaulted college loans - some of which are too old - tell them to go to hell!

Somebody has the last 4 digits of my SS #, wants to know if I am the person they are calling about. Thieving debt collectors for defaulted college loans probably. Kill them with extreme prejudice!

Constantly receives calls from Cloister, NJ.  There is no one here by the name of Rick .  They keep calling my number again and again.  I am sick and tired of it.

That's exactly who it is Van Ru re student loans-- On some phones, I know, you can "block" numbers, so you don't get any ring when they call.

The 888 337 are ALL numbers for debt collectors

It is probably Van Ru, trying to collect on old student loan debt. My new LG cell phone has an option to use my voice recording for a ringtone. I record silence for the ringtone, so I never get annoyed by the call! They use a few different numbers, but I screen calls, they do not have that many numbers...I suppose I could get a new number, not so big a deal to do that.

Got a call that was a hang up. Then called again and knew my name, said his name was Anthony B. and wanted to speak to me. I screen my calls and don't answer questions until my questions are answered - asked his company and he hung up on me. He's blocked now but irritating nonetheless.

This number keeps calling for one of my employees trying to verify his social security number. I have told them I won't answer any questions about him and that I would give him the message. The man said he is w/ a credit company and for my employee to call him back at 888-337-8331 ext 6389.

It comes from a credit collection company called VanRu and they also have this number 1-888-337-8331.

I was called by this number & they did not leave a message. What a bother !

Called asking for someone who does not live here anymore, gave wrong identifying info, knew my name and became verbally abusive when questioned.

They keep calling me even though I have filled reports with the do not call registry at which I am registered.

Of all the annoying calls I get these clowns take the cake.  The first thing they ask is for my social security number.  Yeah right I just give that out to anyone that calls me.
