Answered. No one spoke. Sounded like boiler room in background. Hung up.

Got the phone call a few minutes ago. Just a few minutes after another (fake local) junk call 613-862-6793. I think they were from the same scamming company.
My Blocked Junk list they go.

I called Vonage regarding this phone number, this was their response:

 Vonage: Welcome to Vonage Support. How may I help you?
Mo: I received a phone call from 201-636-8490/201-636-8490. They said they were from Vonage, wanting to help me add extensions.
 Vonage: I'll be glad to assist you with that today.
 Vonage: Please allow me a minute while I access your account. Thank you for your patience.
Mo: This did not sound legitimate, and 800notes.com has them down for a scam.
 Vonage: Were you offered a 2nd extension for free on this call?
Mo: No offer because after he asked me if I had another phone number, and I said no he said goodbye.
Mo: He did know about my one cell phone extension
 Vonage: I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you because of this. From time to time our marketing team does provide offers to our Customers.
 Vonage: To tailor the offers to your needs they try to collect information about your usage
Mo: Well, a lot of people (800notes.com) think this a scam, and that it isn't Vonage.
 Vonage: If you are not comfortable with these calls I can add your account number to a Do Not Call list
 Vonage: Unfortunately we did have an issue with spurious calls from a 201 number claiming to be from Vonage a few months back
 Vonage: This was fixed after complaints started coming in about these calls
Mo: Yes, please add me to the "Do not call" list.  Don't know what you mean by spurious, but they are happening again.
 Vonage: They were offering our Customers a chargeable service for free and our clients added the service thinking it wouldn't cost them. We fixed this issue some time ago. I was asking to make sure that it wasn't happening again
 Vonage: I will add your account number to our Do No Contact list
Mo: According to complaints on 800notes, they are asking for people's Vonage pin number.
 Vonage: Please bear with me for a few minutes
 Vonage: Please DO NOT provide your pin number to anyone making inbound calls to your number. This number is used to verify your account and we will not ask for it unless you call our Toll Free Customer Care number
Mo: That I understand, I never give out any information unless I initiated the call.  Thanks for your help.
 Vonage: My pleasure. I have provided the account information to my supervisor to place you on the Do Not Contact list. I apologize for the inconvenience. We will make sure we do not bother you again

I sent in a complaint to Vonage about this form of telemarketing from them.  Customer service sent me this in response:

I apologize for the inconvenience caused. I have forwarded your email to our Marketing Department to have an investigation on this issue and will coach representative who tried to add the additional line without informing about the charges. I assure you that this will never happen again.

It's a pain to have to write in to them but I hope more of you do if you're Vonage customers.  

I answered a call from this number saying they are from Vonage and they wanted to give me a special offer and then asked for my PIN number. No serious company will ask for a PIN and I told them and hang up. watch out!

The call is from Vonage.  It's one of those robo calls so it takes a few seconds before they answer after you pick up.  

They called to say that they can activate our second line "for emergency purposes" but what they don't say is that you'll, of course, be charged for that second line.  I asked.  Then they try and gloss over the fee by saying they're doing this and that and giving you a credit --a one time credit.  

I just sent Vonage a complaint off their website.  Trying to trick their customers into services they don't want under the guise that it's free is pure sleaze.  Actually, I might report them to the BBB.  There's a convenient online form you can use on the BBB website and it gets results from what I've found.  

After I wrote the above, I thought I could have been tricked into giving out a security question answer by someone other than Vonage.  The sales rep had my number, location, email, and first security question that I set up online (because I couldn't remember my 4 digit sec. code) so I figured it was indeed Vonage when they were calling but, after reading some posts here, I didn't know.  I called Vonage and they took down my information and I gave the cust. service rep the number that was on the caller ID and she said that the 201 is the New Jersey sales dept. and she was going to write up a report and send it to that dept for review because they don't want those sales calls to be confusing their customers worrying about identity theft.  Vonage needs to just stick to email solicitation and not cold calling people if this is the case --especially when it involves security codes.

I am sick of you calling ten to twenty times a day. It says Vonage but I have Vonage and I was told they were not making these calls.

I  am getting calls from this number. Never asnwered. they don't leave msg either.

I just talked to Vonage, it's a scam. they try to get people's PIN number then they call vonage with that pin and order a mass bank of phone lines from Vonage. THEN YOU GET STUCK WITH THE BILL.  BLOCK THAT NUMBER OR DON'T GIVE OUT THE PIN.

Here is how you block calls. I have Vonage, but can work with almost anything else. You will need the following.

GoogleGmail account
- Google voice, it will connect with your gmail account.
- YOUR phone service, have all calls set to ring at "0" (zero) seconds, after that, forward all your calls to Google Voice.
- Have google voice then ring on either your gtalk, or cell phone. This way, you won't hear a ring on your main number. It will go to your GV phone.

If the caller is an unwanted caller, then use the google voice to "Block" all calls from that number. When they call again, it will NEVER ring out, but you will be able to view any history of it, but for evermore, THEY will hear nothing but, "We're sorry, but the number you are trying to call is no longer in service." There you go. Now, using google voice, and gmail, you will have the Google Contacts that will also work with your Smartphone cell phone. This way, those incoming calls will show up as those you know. Those on your contacts list/directory will get through. Those who are not, will be blocked by you forever.

It's a work around, but it works.

Have been getting calls everyday since Mar 26. They never leave a message. I have never received calls about offers from Vonage, only email. I doubt this caller is actually Vonage.

Called with no Caller ID other than number.  I did not pick up and they left no message.

Hey guys,

I just called and informed the telephone communications company about the 201-636-8490 annoying phone calls. That phone is for one of their customers.

Call them and report the same phone number to them. I gave them this website address for them to see the multiple complaints regarding the 201-636-8490 phone calls representing themselves as Vonage. I also contacted Vonage.

I also received multiple calls from the number. For couple of times, no one replied when I picked up the call. The third time, a guy (his name was Spanish and had an accent too) said he is calling from Vonage and that there is a new scheme to get a vonage extension on my cell phone. I said I already have it, then he said oh k ya I see that you already have it, alright then. Thank you.And then hung up. Clearly he wasn't from Vonage. I was very suspicious and called abck on the number. No one picked and then after few rings it went to an automated voice message to vonage and said are you calling for your vonage account XXX-XXX-XXXX. It was my number....THis is clearly a scam. Block the number.  

I just received a call from 2016368490.. SCAM

My wife received a call from this number offering service from Vonage. Apparently they offered a free additional Phone line and they had my data as a current Vonage customer. I still don't know if they really were Vonage but that's what the caller ID says.

Getting calls from this number, no one speaks, cannot call them back and no messages. Apparently some scam

2016368490 number keeps calling me. When I pick up phone, there is no sound. On calling him/her back, no one answers.

I RECEIVED 2 CALLS TODAY, WHEN ANSWERED IT NO ANSWER.

I called the number back. It's the telephone company Vonage. Don't know why they were calling as it sounded like one of those automated customer service numbers.  

This number also called me. What they calling about? Why should I block?
