Caller ID showed this number as "District of Columbia.. DC"

This person called my grandmother and asked for her by name. When I asked who's calling he said "Nick" and said hi and said my granmothers name again. I said Nick who? And he said I needed to verfy I was her or hand the phone to her. I was shocked and paused, he said "retard" and hung up on me. What company is this?

We have received 3 phone calls from the number.  He asks for my wife, and when I answered he hung up, when my mother-in-law answered he hung up, and even when my wife answered, he hung up

I just answered my phone now, with the same number asking for my wife. Immediately i said she is not at home, the man hang up. What is going on?
