Received a message on my phone this morning from this number - a very broken accent, could barely understand the person and had to play it back several times; saying she was Christine from the Internal Revenue Service and I have to retain an attorney and either of us need to call her ASAP at 202-241-6439.  If she doesn't hear from me or from my attorney all she can do is wish me good luck for the situation forced on me?????

I'm close to 80 years old and I'm sure I don't have any business with the IRS other than to file a return each year...my income earning years were over long ago.  Whatever the reason for calls from this number, it needs to be stopped!!

Got a call regarding my mother, The woman said her name was Kelly Jones, and gave me The number 202 241 6439 to call back to regarding A lawsuit against her. And actually just as I was typing this I got a call from "Washington DC" An automated message from "Eric Foster" giving the same number and saying that if I they did not get a call from my attorney or myself, that they "Wish me luck in what will unfold". And they addressed me as "This call is for you" They didn't even give a name. Clearly a scam.

Says who?

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

No, it's NOT! It's a FRAUD (most likely Indian) trying to scam people out of money. The whole country is on to this scam now. Which is very upsetting to the boiler-room jokers who are being paid less than $5 US per day!

i got calls from the IRS two times. they said i owe them taxes and if i don't pay them within 2 hours i can get arrested. first time i got a call i answered and no one replied. so i called back and a guy named Eric foster picked up he said i owe $5,000 but i told them " I know i don't owe anything.''  He said i need to pay. he asked me do i have credit card or cash. i said i will go to the IRS office and pay there. He said that no because the didn't know about this situation. so i just said okay call me in 10 min. the next time i got a call a woman with a weird accent called me and said that if i wanted to know more info she will put me with a senior officer. i said yes when she gave the phone to the man he hanged up. same thing happened with my sister she told me what happen so i wasn't worried. Recd call from female with thick accent and an attitude. Something about a case filed against me by the irs. She put "Eric Foster" on the phone who asked me if I wanted to know about the case filed against me. I told him that I'm pretty sure I would know if there is a case filed against me. He got angry and asked if I was just wasting his time. Then told me good luck in court and hung up. FRAUD!!!!

Multiple calls and threatening messages left on my voice mail and to me personally in the name of IRS. I am surprised that this doesn't bother IRS enough to catch these guys while they openly loot and scam ordinary and simple citizens, scare them in the name of government itself.

My concern is that is such simple scams can't be caught and mitigated, how could I trust the government to defend against much smarter and bigger threats against the nation. My sincere belief is that anyone attempting to scam the citizens of the greatest nation (at least I believe it) in the name of the government tax authority should be caught and punished heavily and exposed.
