Been getting calls from this # for awhile. They are calling earlier and earlier. Just called at 8:15am, and call on Sundays too. So tired of it. Don't know how to get it to stop.

Under HIPAA rules on privacy (http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/administrative/privacyrule/), hospitals cannot release private patient information. But if you have been treated for lung problems, there are dozens of other ways they can obtain your information. If you receive drugs for your condition, the drug company may compile and sell a list of such individuals from the pharmacy records that are kept in case of recalls. If your physician has his/her records maintained or completed (such as transcription of dictation) through any of the multitude of off-shore companies, those companies can and do "data harvest" from those records and sell those lists. (Your physician of course will be told that this doesn't happen! But there is no way to track it and it isn't illegal in those countries.) Perhaps you sent for a magazine or information on the condition. On and on.

This number is from the American Lung A**'n and as a charity, they are exempt from the Do Not Call list. It is probably dialed by a computer and then turned over to someone in a boiler room. If it doesn't get turned over to a worker quickly enough, it will appear there is no one there.

That telephone number, from "ALA", is from the American Lung Association. It is a charity and therefore exempt from the Do Not Call list. They usually call and ask you to solicit donations from about 15 of your neighbors. You can go to charitynavigator.org, a rating system for charities, and look up their track record on how well they handle their donations and how transparent they are about that, also what they pay their top officials. There are several branches, so you can look up the one for your region. Charity Navigator is worth bookmarking for future reference because it is an excellent way to check on charities; there are a lot of "sound-alike" charities out there that are not the major ones you tend to believe they are.

They need to quit calling the elderly. They feel sorry for them and then they give huge amounts of money and before you know it the elderly are strapped for money because they keep calling for donations. That is what is wrong with these charities and telemarketers. They know the age of the people they are calling. The government really needs to do something about this..

It's the American Lung Association. If you call the number back - it prompts you to remove your number from the list. At least I hope so!

The idiot who calls using this number needs to stop. They have called and called, ID ALA, but I do not intend to answer. I wish that I could just program all of the numbers of all of the people who continuously call my number (ON THE DO NOT Call LIST) into some very LOUD speaker, so when they answer they are as annoyed as I am. They need to be stopped.

Information direct from National Do Not Call registry website;
Will All Telemarketing Calls Stop If I Register?
If I register my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, will it stop all telemarketing calls?
No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you?ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls. However, if you ask a company with which you have an existing business relationship to place your number on its own do-not-call list, it must honor your request. You should keep a record of the date you make the request.

I 've been getting calls from 202 349 2194...at 8:30 am any day of the week... Very annoying on the weekend.
So I called the number today 9 28 13... A answering message confirms that it's for the ALA- American Lung Association ( at least that's what they say they represent,. who knows if it really is ALA or if it's a scam.
Keep listening to the message...There is a option to be placed on their Do Not Call .The message states that federal law gives them up to 30 days to put your number of their do not call list.
It's been a few years since I put my PH number on the Federal List..,. I think I remember that the federal list does not include charities and a few other organizations who are exempt from being placed on the federal list and you are therefore required to contact the charity directly and request to be place on their DNC list

caller was polite...she said they are professional fund raisers..didnt get the name ....caller id was "ala" ..told them to put me on their Do Not Call List.........I am on the federal list already

The calls are from the ALA or American Lung Association. They want you to take delivery of their packets of information, assemble and distribute them in your neighborhood to "raise awareness" but also it's a request for donations. If you say you will do it once, they send you the stuff forever if they cannot find another neighbor who will agree to do it. We were moving and I told them I could not continue because of that. Next thing I know, it arrives in the mail. Had to throw it away. They use 3 different numbers, two of which are identified as ALA, the other comes through as "private number". I assume that is because I have not answered for the other two numbers. I do not answer private numbers or calls I do not recognize. If something is that important, people know how to reach me on my cell.
Arletta 2013-09-23 14:35:07 Unknown
Caller ID shows ALA. I picked up but didn't speak and they hung up at 10 seconds. I am not calling a long-distance number to find out who they are.
Jordan 2013-09-05 11:22:37 Unknown

Really? So you can't tell the difference between an actual charity and the scumbag telescammers that trick them into hiring them to raise funds for the call center in the name of the supposed charity?
I suppose that's why you believed them when they said they'd remove your number. hehe.

After reading some of these comments, I decided to call the number back. It DOES belong to the American Lung Assoc. I got an automated menu that allowed to me to remove my number from their calling list.
FRUSTRATED 2013-08-31 13:27:26 Unknown
CALLS AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, NO ONE EVER ON PHONE, NEVER LEAVES A MESSAGE HOME NUMBER IS BLOCKED
Che 2013-08-30 20:18:56 Unknown
Private Caller comes up on ID. If it was a legit charity they wouldn't have to use a ruse. Blocking them......
Gato 2013-08-30 17:29:48 Unknown
Do you work for this organization?
Andris 2013-08-30 14:14:33 Unknown
I kept getting this call also. It is the American Lung Association. All you have to do is call them back and the menu lets you remove your number from their list.
