"Cancer Research" came up on my CID - I didn't pick up, It didn't leave a  message..... other sites report there is never anyone there when they pick up and they call twice over two nights then it stops

Call at least twice daily; always ask for the same person, and never leave a message.

Received calls from this number twice today, since I have someone stalking me on the internet it sort of bothers me

Caller ID says "Cancer Research" and they hang up when answer machine starts.  Calls are from early morning until about 9:00 at night, usually 2-3 times per day. After some internet searching I found it was actually from "The American Institute for Cancer Research."  Unless they have changed since a previous in-depth look they do a lot of direct mail soliciting and insert a bit of educational material with the pitch, allowing them to claim a large part of the soliciting expense as "cancer education."  That greatly increases the portion of their income that can be claimed as going to "programs" rather than fund-raising expense but it's deceptive.  I went to www.aicr.org and sent an e-mail asking to be taken off off their call list immediately. Called at least three times in last two weeks.  We were not available to answer.  We are on the state and federal do not call lists.

This is a telemarketing firm called the American Cancer Research Institute.  You can call the number back, hit 1 for more information, and then hit 3 to have your number removed from their list. You enter you number.  It says that your number will be removed within 30 days.

Have had about 10 calls over the past week, no message. I work third shift, so my answering machine is on durung the day & the phone ringer is turned off.

Careful this number is now showing up as Wireless Caller.  They are getting more clever

I am terminally ill and it takes me 7 to 10 rings to reach the phone.  The number 202-367-9440 has called 4 times and only lets it ring 3 times.  I found this site after doing a reverse search and finding it came from DC area.  I was worried that it was my SS worker and was stressing over it.  If anyone finds a way to stop this or where they are coming from please post it.  I have better things to do with what time I have left than deal with these calls.

After a short silence, someone spoke  and identified themselves as calling from the National Cancer Institute.  Wanted me to send out 10 letters for them!  I told them I was on Do Not call registry and was told they were non profit and exempt from that list.  I told them not interested and they persisted.  Asked to speak to supervisor and caller started to end the call.  When I persisted was told no supervisor available but they would give me contact info.  I didn't bother and hung up.  My caller ID indicates they have called 4 times.

This caller calls several times a day a few days a week. They never leave a message and noone responds when you do pick up. I'm on the no call list and would like this to stop.

They called 4/19 at 9:16 am, 4/20 at 5:55pm and 4/21 at 8:15am.  Today 4/24 I tried to call them and message was "phone has been disconnected"

I have been getting calls everyday from this number and it is getting annoying.  I have Caller ID so never answer when it says unknown.  When my machine picks up they hang up.

Daily calls for the past 3 days, no message left on VM.  Exceptionally annoying.

This number (CID, Cancer Research) calls in waves -- twice a day for about a week then stops.  Then later on, calls 2-3 times a day for a few days then stops.  We are on DO NOT CALL list, seems to make no difference.

Have received calls from this number and just a recorder with info. Called and placed my phone per phone inst. to have my phone removed. Machine says I will be removed in 30 days. I want NOW!

They keep calling and nobody is on the line. Very distrubing.

Caller ID says Cancer Research but when picked up no one answers. Doubt that this number has anything to do with Cancer Research and is just a ruse of some kind using that name.

CALL SEVERAL TIMES A DAY.  I DO NOT ANSWER BUT THE CALL IS ANNOYING SINCE THEY CALL BEFORE 8 IN THE MORNING AND AFTER 8 AT NIGHT.  THIS NUMBER SHOULD BE DISCONNECTED.

They have called numerous times.  I answered today and a female voice said hello after I did and waited for me to say something else.  Since she called me I didn't say anything and hung up.  This is obviously a scam of some form.

Eureka! Just discovered that if if you press the button requesting more information that you get to a point where a voice asks if you want your number removed from their phone list. Enter your number and a voice says your number will be removed within 30 days. Stay tuned.

p.s. Also will report the number to the Do Not Call Registry at every opportunity for good measure.

Calling daily - this morning before 9 a.m. How do I stop this?

Re: Call from 202 367-9440.  Whoever is calling from this number calls at least once/twice a day at all different hours but when I answer phone no one is there outside of a couple of times, people "talked" to my answering machine just asking to speak to me but they are "talking" to my message.  It is very annoying since these people, whoever they are,call early in the morning and after 8 at nite.

Received several calls on my Caller ID, then checked out (202) 367-9440 on an AOL Search which yielded similar responses that this is a scam.   Next time this number appeared on my Caller ID I picked up the phone and yelled "Rip-off".  They have not called back since April 9th.
