Claimed his name was Marshall Bruce, calling from some federal grant association. Wanted $215 to authorize a transfer of $8400 from the federal bank to my account. Scam scam SCAM! I'm pretty sure it's illegal to charge a processing fee for a grant.

I just got a call stating I had a government grant for $8,400 by a marshal bounce from this number. Then he tried to tell me I had to pay to get it! I started laughing and told him it was a scam cuz you don't pay for a grant..... then he told me to do my research and call him back, I laughed harder then hung up the phone.

Just received a call from Mr. Ramirez saying he is calling from the Dept of Justice in Washington Dc. I called back and spoke with this jerk. I knew it was a scam and recorded the whole conversation. He gave me a confirmation no. and another no. to call back so I can be home when they deliver my check for $850,000. Do they really think people are stupid. Then again some people might not know, because these jerks keep doing this.

I also just received a call from Mr. Ramirez with the DOJ and he wanted me to call him. I called him from another number just to see what would happen. No identification was given when the phone stopped ringing, and only asked that I leave my name and number. What creeps!

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam a year ago:

SCAM!! caller contacted my father, claimed to be "Paul Henry" from American Dreams Corporation working with the Federal Trade Commission calling from (202) 370-7637 to advise my dad that he had won $2.1 mil (a 2nd place winner in an American Dreams Corp. sweepstakes)... Dad hung up and "Paul" called back and left a vm. I called back and he said our entry was from when my father tried to sell his timeshare in Hawaii - then proceeded to tell me address and information (all public record). The "winnings" required $925 insurance for FedEx delivery plus additional insurance $$$ ...... Caller claimed the FTC had "verified" the ADC sweepstakes. I told him to take my father's phone# off his call list!!
