I just received a call from 202-403-0827 stating that they are an employment verification service and pre-screening company called Employment Select calling about the job application I recently applied for online.  It didn't seem suspicious at first considering I've been applying for numerous jobs on the web. I continued to hold for the next available pre-screening agent. After about 6 minutes all of the sudden my call was disconnected.  Good thing I had the caller ID so I called back.  In the meantime I started up my computer like the automated system asked and researched the company.  They seem to have a legit web site, but the company states it's based in Georgia and the area code is DC, but there are numerous comments of them being fraud so after waiting for another 13 minutes I hung up.

This is a legitimate company.  I called them back and talked to a guy who led me through a verification process (phone number address etc...)  They did not ask for any crazy stuff like credit card number, account numbers or personal ID stuff.

They didn’t tell me where the job was located, but said it was in my area.  The guy told me after I finished the verification that I would soon receive a phone call for an interview.  It took the company almost a week to get back to me.  Sounds good to me…

When they call asking to speak to a 'Verification Specialist' then that is just Step 1 to their scam. Obviously they already have all that info. on the job resume. If you answer 'Yes' to all that then nothing else matters, except Step 2 to their scheme. Don't fall for it!! It's best to pretend it's a wrong number. That is the ONLY way to divert anymore hassle. Also, it helps to call your local telelphone co. and place a block on the number. It has worked for me. Good luck!

Recevied a call on Friday afternoon about 3:30 pm.  After I spoke with a representative, I also was really happy that someone was interested in my resume.  She said she was going to recommend me for the job and that the job was located no further than 25 miles from my zip code.  Now after reading these posts I have figured it out that all they really wanted to do was sell me an online education package. So needless to say I am fairly certain an employer will not be contact me!

Thanks for helping with 202-403-0827. I'm newly unemployed also. I only received a continuous loop message on my cell phone, about 2 minutes long.    It smells like scam to me.  It is really sad that with so many people out of work, scams like this aren't reported more widely by the news stations.  If they do catch me on my cell, to verify this is legitimate, I'll ask for

Business phone number
Business address
State of Incorporation
Name of corporate officer or officers

If I get an answer I'll post here.  Like the person did earlier in this thread.

Sad that they get people's hopes up like this.....

I had filled out an online application for a job and then thought it was a scam but I wasn't sure. Now a month later they have called me and wanted to go over my application and send it in. They said they were from jobnetwork. I verified my info (basic info, phone number, address, email). I don't drive so I asked the location of the place. All she had to say was it was close by and the manager of the place would let me know if he called me back he would give me all the info. I thought it odd because before going thought with the verifying she asked if I had access to the internet where I was.
So I'm really annoyed because I have been looking for a job with little success and I find one that I really like and it turns out to be a scam and now they have my info and will probably send me junk mail or worse.

If the person calls back or "the manager" I'm just gonna pretend I'm someone else that I gave the phone to and tell them the real me found a job and moved out of state.

I received a few calls from this company. I called them back and after waiting for a little while I finally got a real person on the phone. He was very nice and I just told him that I want my number taken off of the list because the person they were calling was not at this number. He said He would gladly do it and he said that he has marked my name as "not interested and that I should not be receiving any more calls".

I hope he wasn't lying cause this crap is annoying!! I need a job, not someone phishing for my information.

I received another call from 202-403-0827 (Career Network). This is in reference to an online job I applied for. Despite my repeated requests to be removed from their calling list, this time I called them back, giving them my actual cell #, then told them, "No, this is not <MY NAME>".

I was polite and told them, "I live in <HAWAII>, in an earlier time zone" and keep getting calls. The rep was apologetic and said she would "Let them know to remove my number.... and that I will no longer be contacted". GREAT!!

Then I proceeded to call my local telephone company to report 202-403-0827. They were very helpful, and instantly placed 202-403-0827 on a 90-day block, FREE of charge! So if/when someone from 202-403-0827 tries to call me, they will automatically be filtered to an automated recording informing them my "Number is no longer in service". Also, I will not hear my phone ring either!

To All Job seekers: BEWARE of calls received from 202-403-0827 who represent themselves as Career Network.

They are targeting innocent job seekers and ask you to call back and speak to a "Verification Specialist" about a job posting you applied for. This is another scamming place which posts bogus job ads in hopes to get you to call back. All they want is your personal info so they can sell it to marketing companies.

They will call and call, leaving the same messages. I finally called back asking them to take my number & other info off their call list.

Immediately I was suspicious because I live in Palm Springs, CA and this is a number out of Washington, DC. I did not want to give any personal information out to them. It's bad enough unemployment is so high. It's terrible how scammers will prey on honest people looking for a job. Already our resumes have our name, address, and other contact info. Now I will NEVER apply to any company which does not reveal it's name.

I have received several phone calls from this number stating they are a employment verification company.  This is a DC area code and I am not looking to relocate for employment.  I am not going to call and give my information to anyone.  The jobs I applied for online are local and I do not believe that this agency is related to any of the jobs I applied for.  If the company they are verifying info for is not willing to disclose their name, I am not interested in working for them.

I also received a call from this number. I believe they called me about a week ago, but after saying hello twice and no response from the caller, I hung up.  They did not call back and did not leave a message.

Today received a call stating information listed in posts above.  I tried my best to find out which company the rep was calling about or at least the position.  After giving her my number (which she already had since she called my cell), she said the position was for a reservationist position which I remember applying for about two or so months ago.  She also said the process would take between 5-40 minutes, so I told her that I would have to call back.  She did not give me the number to call but said that I could call the number shown on my caller ID and anyone could help me.

Regardless if this is supposed to be a third party screening service, it does not sound legit.  Additionally, after reading all your posts and those on other sites, I feel it is in my best interest not to return this call.

Thanks for your input and posts!

I just received a voice automated message asking to verify my info. I hung up and called back to see where the number took me and it was the same message. Thanks to google, I typed in the phone number as I was calling it back and this popped up with ALL the other people it has happened to. If there is one thing I learned from this is that you can;t be so quick to give out personal information.

It's a scam and a waste of your time.
Here's some info on Career Network. They're incorporated in Delaware, and operate local offices under this name, in various states. There are similar companies such as Education Bridge, Inc, based in Bellevue, WA, that will be calling you as well, since these companies sell each other your contact information.
Basically, they are advertising/marketing firms that submit fake job ads online, in order to get your personal information and try to sell you things.

Here's what I do:
Search through the Secretary of State's website for that State that they are incorporated in, for example, Career Network in Florida. Look up their latest business filings, and from them, you can get the name of the president and officers of the company, and/or their lawyer. Call them and ask them if they are interested in furthering their education. Or, do them a favor and sign them up to the calling list.

Yes you can call your local telephone company or cell phone provider requesting a block on your phone. I did and it is valid for 3 months.

Also, if someone calls asking to 'verify' your name & info, then don't answer 'Yes' to any of their questions. Why? Because a legitimate employer will already have that information, besides, you will just be taken into their next stage of the scam. The ONLY way to get rid of the calls is to say 'No, that is not my name' and they will remove you from their scammers marketing list.

Good luck!

It is AMAZING these scammers are still in business! It is tough enough being unemployed and having to sift through the many bogus job ads. I get calls from them at least twice a week asking me to call back and speak to a 'Verification Specialist'. The first time I did & answered Yes when they asked to verify my name, add, etc. I thought it was strange since all that is listed on my resume. Then I get another call and another so finally I asked to be removed from their mail list. They say will do that but they just lie because another call comes in from a different person. It is just a vicious loop, an endless cycle repeating itself until they pester you to give in. All they want is to get you in front of a computer. **BIG RED FLAG** !!!!! BEWARE !!!!! NEVER give out your social security # and driver's license or credit card information!! These people are trying to get you to register for online schooling. They post FAKE jobs on multiple online job websites and operate under several alias'.

I ended up calling my local phone company and they placed a 90-day block on this number. This should STOP anymore calls from 202-403-0827.

They keep calling, leaving automated messages to call back and speak to a Verification Specialist. I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THEIR GAMES, so I got smart and called back, this time in a sleepy voice. When asked to verify my ph# I did ONLY because they already have it from some bogus job ad I applied to. Next when they asked my name I pretended not to be NAME then said, No, that's not me. Then I said how I keep getting calls and now it is 5 AM because I live in HAWAII, just to derail them. Then I said, maybe somebody must have given you my ph# by mistake? I proceeded to ask them all sorts of WHY questions in a concerned voice. The so-called Verification Rep was VERY apologetic telling me she was sorry and would have their dept. remove my ph#. Since then no calls from 202-403-0827 BUT just to be sure, I called the local ph company where they put a 90-day block on it. So next time if/when Career Network calls, then they will be filtered to a disconnected #. What's even better, I will NEVER hear my phone ring again from these scammers who keep preying on innocent job seekers!

Try calling their number. When they ask for your name, tell them that is incorrect. Next say you live in such & such state, just to throw off the so-called 'Verification Specialist'. That way you will be easily removed from their vicious & annoying calling cycle.

Definitely write a formal complaint to the BBB, reporting them -- their name, phone #, dates/times they call.

Also, report the number to your local phone company where it can be blocked. This should be FREE of charge AND callers will be automatically filtered to an auto voice mail -- "The number you are trying to reach is out of service" or something to the effect.
