I recieved a blocked call on my mobile phone today, the person that called I could barely understand, she said my phone # was selected to get a goverment grant for $7000.00. I asked her how she got my #. She didn't answer me ? and continued telling me all I needed was a pen & paper. I said OK I have my pen & paper go on. She said write down this code # , now write down this phone # 202-407-9052. then she said all I had to do is call this # & her supervisor will ask for the code # so you can recieve your grant money. I said Ok, I have your information. Then I told her that she was crazy if you think I am stupid to believe that our goverment was going to give $7000.00 grants to randem cell #,s. their was no response. "HELLO,HELLO" END OF CALL!!!

Old scam being recycled. Read about it here: http://ccdesan.livejournal.com/294337.html - today's call was almost identical. Beware of advance-fee fraud.

recieved a secok nd call in 3 days.. told that  I was eligible for $7000I dollar gov grant . gave me a code # and a phone # 202 407-9052 to  call right away.. called an hour later,  Angelena Williams  ask me to go to a Western Union and bring $250 which would be refunded, call her when I got there and she would send the $7000 to me while I was standing there..
I told her I didn't have  the money, and banks were closed  then..she ask if  I had a debt card and I told  her no, ask if I could get tomorrow, said yes, I was then told to call her tomorrow when I got there..  I suspected  something wasn't kosher so started checking the internet. Came across this site, sure glad I did..................

This is a total scam. Being as skeptical as I am, I asked several questions myself. Of-coarse they were unable to answer any of them! BIG SURPRISE!! The government is not going to use these methods or let alone seek out individuals to "hand out" money to when this country is already drowning in debt. For it to be a legit deal, first of all you would have to apply and they would need to verify information other than your name! Which the person I talked to didn't even have!!  May all the money they are STEALING from individuals who really need the money, bring upon them burdens that weigh so heavy in this they find suffering and punishment. For money is not the root of all evil.....The love of it is! God Bless you all!  Oh and if anyone knows who to report these people to, please let me know as I want to report this!! Thanks!

Got a call from the "United States Grant Department" (no such government office as per the US Federal Trade Commission Web Site) that I was selected to receive $7,000 and to call his manager at (202) 407-9052. After looking up this number, I called it and told them that since I already get direct deposit, they should just look up the information. There was a long pause then they hung up. Not nice at all.

FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION WEBSITE
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt134.shtm

?Free Government Grants?: Don?t Take Them For Grant-ed
?Because you pay your income taxes on time, you have been awarded a free $12,500 government grant! To get your grant, simply give us your checking account information, and we will direct-deposit the grant into your bank account!?
Sometimes, it?s an ad that claims you will qualify to receive a ?free grant? to pay for education costs, home repairs, home business expenses, or unpaid bills. Other times, it?s a phone call supposedly from a ?government? agency or some other organization with an official sounding name. In either case, the claim is the same: your application for a grant is guaranteed to be accepted, and you?ll never have to pay the money back.

Don?t give out your bank account information to anyone you don?t know.

Scammers pressure people to divulge their bank account information so that they can steal the money in the account. Always keep your bank account information confidential. Don?t share it unless you are familiar with the company and know why the information is necessary.

Don?t pay any money for a ?free? government grant.

If you have to pay money to claim a ?free? government grant, it isn?t really free. A real government agency won?t ask you to pay a processing fee for a grant that you have already been awarded ? or to pay for a list of grant-making institutions. The names of agencies and foundations that award grants are available for free at any public library or on the Internet. The only official access point for all federal grant-making agencies is www.grants.gov.

Look-alikes aren?t the real thing.

Just because the caller says he?s from the ?Federal Grants Administration? doesn?t mean that he is. There is no such government agency. Take a moment to check the blue pages in your telephone directory to bear out your hunch ? or not.

Phone numbers can deceive.

Some con artists use Internet technology to disguise their area code in caller ID systems. Although it may look like they?re calling from Washington, DC, they could be calling from anywhere in the world.

I just got the call today. I'm thinking of calling the supervisor and having some fun as well. I acted so exited on the phone with the woman who told me I'll be getting the 7K. I asked her why doesn't the gov't just sent me the money if I'm owed it. I hope these people rot in hell for taking advantage of some.

This is a cel phone used by a scam artist to get your bank account info with the promise of a $7000 government grant becuase you have paid your taxes on time. They want you to authorize a $110 fee payment from your bank account for the grant application and then they will deposit $7000 in your bank account within 1 hour. My bank told me there is no way they can directly deposit into a bank account within 1 hour - it takes at least overnight to get funds transferred. The original phone call comes from a blocked number giving you a approval code that you then have to relay to the person at this number - all have4 very thick Indian accents. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BANK INFORMATION......
